ISRO’s Vikram Sarabhai Space Center(VSSC), which is the country’s lead centre for the development of rockets and related technologies has invited applications and shared the specifications of their product on their website.&nbsp;

The portable Medical Oxygen Concentrator (MOC) named "SHWAAS", which can deliver over 95 per cent&nbsp;enriched level of oxygen to support patients with respiratory illness or who are on oxygen therapy.&nbsp;

The device enhances the oxygen gas content by selectively separating the nitrogen gas from ambient air through Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA). SHWAAS is capable of supplying enriched oxygen continuously at10 LPM adequate for two patients at a time, said the post on ISRO’s website.

Zee Media had earlier reported on how ISRO is contributing to the country’s COVID-19 battle by scaling up its production of liquid oxygen, repurposing giant fuel tanks across India to store liquid oxygen, in-house development of medical technologies among others.&nbsp;

“These medical equipment are not under our area of work, it requires a deep understanding of human physiology, breathing etc.. Such devices aiding respiration must be able to sense, sync with unique breathing patterns and assist Doctors in saving lives. So, our young engineers, most of whom are in their 20s and 30s studied the theory and explored the processes to make this happen," Dr.S. Somanath, Director, VSSC had told Zee media earlier.&nbsp;

"It was a collaborative effort between several teams largely working from home and partly from labs, under the guidance of seniors and technicians. Ours is a highly inspired work culture, it’s not just about building rockets, we are ready to take on any challenge with our enthusiasm and ideas” Dr Somanath added.

On Tuesday, the Delhi High Court asked the central government why it shouldn't be sued for contempt over the supply of oxygen.

The court said: "While we are going on with the hearing there are several hospitals and nursing homes saying they are not getting oxygen, where do you think all that oxygen is going if it's sufficient? are you living in ivory towers?"

On Wednesday, the matter reached India's Supreme Court.

The top court stayed the contempt order of the Delhi High Court. It asked the central government to present a plan to ensure Delhi gets its share of oxygen.&nbsp;

The court's observations were sharp: "Between the centre and state, putting officers in jail or hauling them up for contempt, the people of Delhi won't get oxygen".

Similar hearings took place at the Allahabad High Court.

The court took up the matter suo motu after the death of patients in Lucknow and Meerut due to the lack of oxygen.

The judges said those responsible for supplying oxygen to hospitals are committing a criminal act and it amounts to genocide.

Also, questions are being raised outside India.

Last week, the US State Department was asked if it was tracking the aid it had sent to India.

A reporter said there should be accountability for the "US taxpayers' money", Washington replied it was doing its best to make sure India's needs are taken care of during the crisis.

Some answers came from the government of India this week. It said a cell within the health ministry is responsible for coordinating the receipt and allocation of relief material with nearly four million items donated across 24 categories which&nbsp;have been sent to 38 healthcare facilities across India.

However, it's not enough. India has been adding more than 300,000 cases every day. It needs more supplies and fast.

Meanwhile, experts both in India and abroad have been making dire projections.

A team at the Indian Institute of Science said&nbsp;India could see more than 400,000 deaths by June, if cases continue to rise at the same pace.

Experts at the University of Washington predicted even worse - their model forecasts more than a million deaths by July, if the present surge is not crushed.

An Indian Air Force C17 Globemaster transport aircraft carrying 35 tonnes of aid including 450 oxygen cylinders, each with a capacity of 46.6 litres, landed in Chennai&nbsp;airport on Tuesday morning.

The cylinders were donated by the British Oxygen Company (BOC) and were consigned to the Indian Red Cross Society in Chennai.&nbsp;

After the cargo was unloaded, the first C-17 took off by around 7:45 am. Chennai Airport authorities said that they had facilitated the smooth movement of the IAF aircraft.&nbsp;

People have become accustomed to having their temperature checked during the pandemic because fever is a key indicator of COVID-19.

New research led by researchers at Washington State University proposes that taking a temperature is a less useful indicator of infection in older adults and that a pulse oximeter be used instead.

The paper, published in the journal Frontiers in Medicine, said baseline temperatures are lower in older adults. A lower baseline temperature means a fever may be overlooked using the CDC's standard definition of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or greater.

"In fact," the paper says, "upwards of 30 per cent of older adults with serious infections show mild or no fever."Other common signs of COVID may also be dismissed and attributed to aging, such as fatigue, body aches, and loss of taste or smell.

Additionally, some COVID-19 patients have no visible signs of having low oxygen levels, such as shortness of breath, yet have oxygen saturation below 90 per cent. Such asymptomatic hypoxia can be associated with extremely poor outcomes.

Van Son and Eti say inexpensive, portable pulse oximeters should be considered for wide use in COVID-19 screenings of older adults because the devices can detect changes in oxygen saturation without other indications of infection.

"Detecting (asymptomatic hypoxia) is critical for the prevention of infection progression and initiating treatment," they wrote.

"Earlier interventions could help patients avoid highly invasive procedures (that is, intubation) and improve the allocation of scarce healthcare resources."&nbsp;

In a statement, Janez Lenarčič, said: "I am proud to say EU member states are providing further substantial help in a Team Europe effort to show our solidarity with our Indian friends."

"Collective action is the only solution if we want to win our fight against the COVID-19 pandemic," he added.

The ambassador of the European Union to India and Bhutan, Ugo Astuto had said earlier that "more aeroplanes have arrived from France, Germany &amp; Belgium with urgently needed oxygen, equipment and&nbsp;medicines. Team Europe is pooling resources &amp; mobilizing support in solidarity with India."

The Delhi Police will take strict action against malpractices by ambulances and black-marketing of Covid medicines and oxygen, said Delhi Police Commissioner SN Shrivastava on Saturday.

Shrivastava said this while reviewing the enforcement of lockdown and action taken against hoarding/black marketing of medicines/oxygen gas cylinders during a virtual meeting at the Vimarsh conference hall, Police Headquarters today.

"District Delhi Commissioners were instructed to activate a robust human intelligence mechanism with the deployment of decoy customer in order to unearth the entire chain," read a press release by the Delhi Police.

It was also emphasised to sensitise cyber cells to check the online frauds reportedly being committed in the name of arranging oxygen, medicines, and medical equipment.

Strict action should be taken against those found violating lockdown instructions while the movement of only bonafide e-pass holders, needy or genuine should be allowed.

It should also be ensured that AYUSH kits and other safety material meant for staff should reach till the last field functionary.

It further said that 88 per cent of premature deaths occur in low and middle-income countries where air pollution is high and escalating.

Air pollution in Delhi-NCR occurs due to a complex mix of pollution from human activities such as vehicle emissions, industry, construction, residential fuel burning, dust and sea salt, according to the website delhiair.org.

The NCR generates 10,000 tons per day of municipal solid waste, much of which is eventually burned, and thus, adding particulate pollution to the air.

Meanwhile, on Friday, the Union Environment Ministry gave a week&#39;s time to agencies to respond whether deadlines listed in a plan to clean Delhi&#39;s air by a Supreme Court-monitored panel suits them or not.

The Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority (EPCA) has also come out with several recommendations in the &#39;Comprehensive Action Plan for Air Pollution&#39;, which was submitted in the apex court last month.&nbsp;
