State Comptroller and Ombudsman of Israel, Matanyahu Englman, has blamed Prime Minister&nbsp;Benjamin Netanyahu's&nbsp;Office (PMO) as well as military leaders for impeding inquiries into the terrorist attack by Hamas on October 7 last year.&nbsp;

Englman said not one leader had taken responsibility for the lapse in preparation that allowed Hamas to mount a deadly attack which has prompted a near year-long war.&nbsp;

“In Israel, as of September 2024, there is no one who has taken personal responsibility with action alongside it, not at the political level, not at the security and military level, and not at the civilian level,” the state comptroller said.&nbsp;

“There has not been a single person among the elected officials, bearers of public office, military leaders and the security establishment, who has met the proper standard and the expected time when it comes to upholding the value of bearing responsibility,” he added.

Englman was particularly severe on the defence establishment for attempting to stop his review of the military's actions before October 7. He said the defence officials were building "high and&nbsp;impassable walls which have led to the stymying of the review".&nbsp;

"The Prime Minister’s Office, for its part — even though it has provided material — is still putting up obstacles which are hindering and disrupting the required professional activities," he added, questioning the PMO.&nbsp;

“All of them, at different levels of severity, do not convey the public and principled resilience expected of them, which at its foundation is a readiness [to accept] real criticism, without limitation, even if the results are biting and tough.”

Englman's statement comes a day after Netanyahu nearly 'torpedoed' the hostage-truce talks, according to a CNN report, after a public address where he refused to budge on his position on the stationing of the troops.&nbsp;

While Netanyahu sought forgiveness for the killing of six Israeli hostages in Hamas' captivity, he said Israel must retain control of the key corridor on the Egypt-Gaza border if the deal was to be signed.

Control of the Philadelphi axis guarantees that the hostages will not be smuggled out of Gaza," he said during a press conference, referring to a narrow 14.5-km-long stretch of land along Gaza's southern border with Egypt.&nbsp;

Netanyahu's office hindering October 7 probe? Israeli ombudsman makes shocking claim

Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Monday announced it will launch a formal inquiry into the conduct of current director Graeme Smith and national team's head coach Mark Boucher after reviewing the Social Justice and Nation Building (SJN) Commission report.

A 235-page final report submitted by the SJN Commission head Dumisa Ntsebeza had accused CSA administration, former captain and current director Smith, Boucher and former batter AB de Villiers of engaging in racial discrimination.

The report alleged that the trio discriminated against the black players by not selecting them in the national team.

"The formal inquiries will take place early in the new year. They will include formal inquiries into the conduct of Graeme Smith, the CSA Director of Cricket, and Mark Boucher, the coach of the Proteas Men's team," CSA said in a statement.

However, Smith and Boucher will remain in their positions and will continue to carry out their duties during the India tour.

CSA said it met virtually on Saturday to give further consideration to the report but was silent on enquiry against De Villiers.

The Ombudsman's SJN Report made various "tentative findings" regarding allegations of discrimination and racism.

However, the Ombudsman indicated that he was not in a position to make definite findings and recommended that a further process be undertaken in this regard, CSA said.

"The Board has done so mindful of its duty to treat allegations of racism or discrimination with the utmost seriousness and in a manner that ensures fairness and due process in terms of South Africa's labour legislation and the Constitution."

The Ombudsman's report included findings that Smith and Boucher had acted in a prejudicial or discriminatory manner. Further details with regards to the inquiries will be announced in due course.

"We have taken careful cognisance of the recommendation of the Ombudsman, that in appropriate cases, a further process should be instituted to test the evidence and submissions made, and we have decided that this is indeed the appropriate route to follow," says CSA Board chairperson, Lawson Naidoo.

"We hope this will give implicated parties a fair opportunity to be heard so that finality can be achieved, and any final findings can then be acted on",&nbsp;he added.

Further steps and action by CSA to transform cricket and act on other applicable recommendations in the SJN report, aligned to the Board's new strategic framework and pillars of access, inclusion and excellence, are set to be announced in the new year.&nbsp;

However, the institution failed to achieve it objectives as the number of new complaints have fallen to single digits, said an official release.

"The approval comes in the wake of alternative complaint redressal mechanisms chosen by public and the institution of Ombudsman could not prove to be more effective than regular existing parallel channels of grievance redressal, both the institutions of Income-Tax Ombudsman as well as Indirect Tax Ombudsman have been abolished," it said.

Tax payers are now preferring alternate methods of grievance redressal, like Centralised Public Grievance Redress and Monitoring System, and Aaykar Seva Kendras.
