NASA is developing a nuclear rocket for Mars and beyond. The nuclear-powered rocket will be tested in space by 2027. This will be in collaboration with DARPA, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency and Lockheed Martin will be the commercial partner. The programe is called DRACO, the Demonstration Rocket for Agile Cislunar Operations
