<p>To curb protests, the government seems to have also come up with a nationwide social media blackout,&nbsp;an independent monitor confirmed citing&nbsp;real-time network data. It has restricted access to platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, Instagram, YouTube, etc. &nbsp;</p>

<p>UK-based internet outage monitor&nbsp;NetBlocks metrics have confirmed the restriction after midnight on Sunday. The real-time network data, which was collected from over 100 vantage points across Sri Lanka, showed the restrictions. &nbsp;</p>

<p>This comes as several shoppers could be seen buying food before stores closed. &nbsp;&nbsp;</p>
