Three migrants have been rescued, who travelled from Nigeria to the Canary Islands hanging on the rudder of a ship, news agency Reuters reported on citing the Spanish coastguard.&nbsp;

A photo of the apparent migrants was shared by the coastguard on Monday (November 28) as they were seen&nbsp;on the ship's rudder just above the waterline, which looked quite dangerous.&nbsp;

The lower part of the giant oil and chemical tanker Althini II can be seen in the background of the photo.&nbsp;

According to Marine Traffic, which is a ship-tracking website, the tanker arrived in Las Palmas in Gran Canaria on Monday after an 11-day voyage from Lagos in Nigeria.&nbsp;

The Spanish coastguard further said on Twitter that the migrants were taken into the port and attended to by health services.&nbsp;

Notably, the Canary Islands, which are owned by Spain, are one of the popular entry points for African immigrants who are trying to enter&nbsp;to Europe.&nbsp;

As per the Spanish data, sea migration to the archipelago increased around 51 per cent in the first five months of the year as compared to the same period last year.&nbsp;

African migrants stowed away on ship's rudder, rescued by Spanish coastguard

A total of around 2,000 migrants were rescued from rubber boats and wooden vessels in the Mediterranean on February 3 and February 4, the Italian coast guard said, releasing video of the rescue operations.

Nine rescue operations were carried out on Saturday (Feb 3) to pull more than 600 migrants to safety, the coast guard said. The migrants were rescued from seven rubber boats and two small vessels, the coastguard added.

Meanwhile, on Friday more than 1,300 migrants were rescued in 13 operations, the coast guard said.

According to the coast guard, the migrants were travelling on ten rubber boats, two small wooden boats and one larger boat.

No details of the migrants&#39; origin, gender or age were released.

The arrivals came as European leaders on Friday offered Libya money and other assistance to try to curb record migrant flows from the North African country. Aid groups criticised the move, saying such plans exposed migrants to further risks and abuses.

Italian coast guard rescues around 2,000 migrants from Mediterranean

The bodies of five migrants were recovered in the central Mediterranean on Wednesday during rescue operations that saved 300 others, the Italian coastguard said.

The migrants were on board two inflatable dinghies and three small boats, the coastguard said in a statement.

The dinghies were helped by a charity boat and an Irish naval vessel, which rescued 118 people and found five dead bodies.

Some 145,000 migrants have been picked up and brought to Italy since the start of 2016. According to the UN, at least 3,626 people have died during the perilous crossings or are lost at sea.
