Being asked to bat first, the Yellow Army only managed 165 for 5, on a sluggish surface, with Shivam Dube (45) being their top-scorer. In reply, Cummins &amp; Co. chased it down with six wickets courtesy of Abhishek Sharma's blazing 12-ball 37 and Aiden Markram's 50.

After the clash, CSK head coach Stephen Fleming reckoned that the five-time winners certainly missed their death-over specialist bowlers Mustafizur Rahman and Matheesha Pathirana. The Bangladeshi pacer is back home in Bangladesh due to visa issues whereas Pathirana missed the SRH clash due to a niggle. In their absence, who have shared 11 wickets so far in this edition, Chennai used seven bowlers but couldn't stop SRH from chasing down a moderate 166 on a tricky wicket.&nbsp;

In their run-chase, SRH were 78 for 1 in the first six overs, very much closing the game by then. Only Moeen Ali (3-0-23-2) stood tall and delayed the inevitable for a brief period.&nbsp;

Fleming agreed that his side missed Mustafizur and Pathirana during the post-match presser, "Without a doubt, it's It's part of the IPL. He's not here, so we can't use him. But having injuries and losing players in an IPL is part of the process."

The New Zealander opined that though they played Mukesh Choudhary -- their find of IPL 2022 -- the young pacer had an off day, with a spell of 1-0-27-0.

"We had a chance to introduce Mukesh Chaudhary today. He was good for us a while back. It wasn't his day. But that's part of the IPL It's managing players, and when you do find yourself a little bit short on firepower, it's finding the new hero," stated Fleming.

Further, he added, "And, it didn't happen today, but we put trust in the players that we introduced and they've been training well and doing the job. Tough baptism. Mustafizur Rahman bowling from over the wicket bowled a slower and full-length delivery on the stumps. Warner shaped up to play a reverse sweep and got decent meat on it. However, the placement wasn't perfect and 'Baby Malinga' as he is often called in these circles, used his slingers to dive to his right and pluck a difficult catch out of thin air.&nbsp;

The fans went berserk after the catch and richly applauded the Sri Lankan for the catch.&nbsp;

"Are you craaazyyy or what, Maheesh Pathirana? This has to be the catch of the season. Excellent comeback by CSK," said one user, while another commented:&nbsp;"Already the catch of the season. Take a bow Matheesha Pathirana."

The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 has approved Angelo Mathews as a replacement for Matheesha Pathirana in the Sri Lanka squad, according to a press release from International Cricket Council (ICC).

Mathews who has played 221 ODIs was named as a replacement after Pathirana failed to recover from a shoulder injury sustained during a warm-up match and was subsequently ruled out of the tournament.

The replacement of a player requires the approval of the Event Technical Committee before the replacement player can be officially added to the squad.

Angelo Mathews replaces injured Matheesha Pathirana in Sri Lanka's World Cup squad

One of the rising stars of Sri Lankan cricket, Matheesha Pathirana has been in fine form and is the joint-highest wicket-taker in the ongoing Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2023 with his sublime sling action. The young pacer recently revealed that he has learned to perform well in T20 cricket from former Indian captain MS Dhoni.

Colombo Strikers' Pathirana played under the captaincy of Dhoni in the Indian league and termed the experience as a big learning point for him. "As a youngster, if someone gives you confidence like that, it boosts your career. A player of that level showed faith in me and I believed I can do anything in that moment. Not only me, Dhoni gave confidence to all of us. There were 4-5 top players who were injured and he showed his trust in youngsters which was great," commented Pathirana.

He added, "I learned a lot from Dhoni. The first thing is humbleness and that's why he is very successful. He is 42 and still the fittest cricketer which is really inspiring. When I went there, I was a kid and no one knew me and they trained and taught me several things. Now, I know how to perform in any T20 game and how to balance my four overs in a match. Dhoni told me if I keep my body away from injury then I can achieve a lot for the team and the country."

Pathirana has taken 12 wickets in the LPL 2023 and revealed the moment he met Lasith Malinga, who is one of his idols.&nbsp;

He stated, "I am constantly trying to improve my action and bowling. Malinga was very happy when he met me because he saw someone more like him."

While he thinks Pathirana has a long way to go regarding developing into a proper all-format bowler, Malinga expressed his disagreement over CSK captain MS Dhoni's remarks on Pathirana staying away from red-ball cricket.

Malinga, who played 30 Tests for nearly six years from 2004 to 2010, knows the pros and cons of bowling with similar action in the longer format. While the veteran seamer said Dhoni's experience is helping Pathirana to deliver during the fag end of the innings, the young seamer from Kandy is still far from adopting the beast mode with the new ball in hand.

Figuring out how MS is using Pathirana with the relatively older ball this season, Malinga said Dhoni knows he cannot give the new ball to him because he doesn't have the swing, which is required to threaten even the best of batters at this stage.

"MS has figured out that he can't bowl with the new ball yet. He also uses him against local Indian batters at the crease - players who don't play international cricket. With the 145kph pace and his action, it's hard for them to play him. That's just MS' 20 years of experience at work."

"He also gets him to lower his pace against batters who are purely power players. Against batters who use the pace - like a Rohit Sharma, or a Mahela Jayawardene, or a Virat Kohli - those players Matheesha might struggle against for now," Malinga said during an interaction with ESPNcricinfo.

Earlier in the tournament, MS made remarks about Pathirana's future, saying to bring the best out of him, Sri Lanka must utilise his services carefully - further suggesting that he should stick to playing in white-ball&nbsp;tournaments and be away from Test cricket.

Commenting on the same, Malinga said MS must be joking because he strongly disagrees with the CSK captain. Backing his point, Malinga added,

"I think anyone who tells him (Pathirana) not to play red-ball cricket is doing that because they think he will get injured. I played red-ball cricket first. No one said anything like that to me. I played red-ball cricket between 2004 to 2010, but I had a 16-year international career, and I played a lot of IPL, plus Big Bash and all the other leagues.&nbsp;

"In all that time, I never left the field after injuring a hamstring, or a groin, or my back, or my calf. Maybe a lot of people will oppose me, but I don't think we should just presume that he will get injured. I've played cricket this way and bowled like him, so I know what the challenges are," Malinga added.

In IPL 2023, Pathirana has picked 15 wickets from 10 matches, with an economy rate of 7.56. With CSK qualifying for the playoffs this season, Pathirana will have a chance to impress everyone during the knockout stages. CSK will next face Gujarat Titans on Tuesday, May 23rd, in Qualifier 1 at Chepauk.

"But make sure that he is fit and available for all ICC tournaments and he will be a great asset for Sri Lanka. Not to forget, he is a really young boy. Last time [in 2022], when he came, he was slightly more lean, but he has added muscle, which means he has got pretty strong. I feel he will serve for a very long time for Sri Lankan cricket, but we'll have to keep an eye on how much he bowls,” the former India captain added.

"It was quite a bit above par score. The reason was the first six overs, we gave away too many in the first six. At the same time, the wicket was best to bat on at that period. If I just go through it, maybe there were at least five or six boundaries with edges and that had a very big impact on the score. "You have to accept it because you don't look at the scorecard. What you are looking at is how the ball was delivered, where it was and where the boundary went. These things help you take better decisions and I felt his bowling was very good, it was not like he bowled badly. Yes, there will be a few deliveries where the batsmen will play the big shot but other than that I think the scorecard doesn't really reflect how well he bowled," the CSK captain added.

On the other hand, he also praised young left-handed Jaiswal, who played beautiful shots and kept the scoring rate above run-a-ball throughout his innings. MS added Yashasvi calculated the risks very well.

"Yashasvi batted really well, it was important to go after the bowlers, and I think he took calculated risks. It felt it was slightly easy with our bowlers because they had to assess as to what is a good length to bowl. As a captain, you can tell them initially that you want to be slightly on the shorter side," Dhoni said while praising young Jaiswal.
