Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel on Tuesday said members of the Islamic sect Tablighi Jamaat played a major role in spreading coronavirus in the state and the country, by not cooperating with the authorities and hiding their travel history.

Speaking to reporters here, Patel said unlike members of the Muslim congregation, Hindu travellers who arrived at airports in Gujarat had not thrown any tantrums and had followed authorities' instructions.

"Even in Islamic countries, including Pakistan, we have not heard of violations of the government's instructions. Unfortunately, in India, some radicals and religious fanatics spread a rumour that it would harm their religion," the BJP leader said.

Members of the Tablighi Jamaat played a major role in spreading coronavirus, the Deputy Chief Minister said.

"After returning to their homes in respective states from Delhi, they should have informed the authorities. This could have contained the spread," Patel said.

Majority of international travellers, who arrived in Gujarat were Hindus, he said, adding that none of them had thrown tantrums and had followed all instructions and opted for quarantine.

"If members of the Jamaat had done the same and had informed the authorities or came forward for medical check- ups, the quantum of spread would have been less. They should understand that their action mostly affected people from the minority community only," he said.

Of the 126 persons from Gujarat, who had attended the event in Nizamuddin last month, 12 from Ahmedabad tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday.

"It is hereby directed to all the managements not to allow any congregational prayers in the mosques and the management of the Muslim graveyards and dargahs throughout the state to suspend the visit of public on the occasion of Shab-e-Barat on Thursday," Karnataka government said in a statement.

"No public shall be allowed to perform religious rituals in the Muslim graveyards and Dargahs and close all the gates," it added.

The management of the Muslim graveyards and dargahs have been asked to take necessary steps for implementation of the said order in the interest of public health in letter and spirit.

"All the Waqf Officers and Districts Waqf Advisory Committees in the state shall adhere to the order and directed to circulate the same to all the Waqf managements and ensure that the said order is followed scrupulously. Any dereliction in this regard will be viewed seriously," it said.

In Karnataka, 175 people have tested positive for COVID-19, including 25 cured and discharged and four deaths, as per the latest bulletin of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Out of 525 total COVID-19 cases, 329 people from Tablighi Jamaat have tested positive for coronavirus, said Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

The Arunachal Pradesh Police on Thursday traced 12 more persons, who had attended a congregation in Delhi's Nizamuddin West last month, an officer said.

The police traced the 12 persons after the news of the first COVID-19 case was reported from Lohit district of the state on Thursday morning, the officer said.

The 12 persons who went to the Nizamuddin Markaz in Delhi, stayed in the National Capital from March 2 to 4, left Delhi on March 5 by train and reached Naharlagun railway station, near here, on March 7, Capital SP Tumme Amo said.

Of the 12 persons, four were traced in Itanagar, two in Naharlagun, one in Nirjuli and another five from Laluk in Assams North Lakhimpur district, the SP said.

"The individuals have been traced and have been taken to Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) for necessary tests to be conducted," Amo said.

TRIHMS sources said that the 12 persons are kept in the isolation ward and their swab samples have been collected and would be sent for test.

The state government had already designated TRIHMS as the specialized hospital to deal with COVID-19 cases. 
Earlier the state government had traced seven persons, including the 31-year-old man who tested positive for COVID-19 at Tezu and another six from Namsai district who attended the Tablighi Jamaat congregation in Delhis Nizamuddin West last month.
