Former Maharashtra Chief Minister and senior Shiv Sena&nbsp;leader Manohar Joshi passed away at the age of 86 at around 3 am on Friday (Feb 23) due to age-related health complications.

He was admitted to the ICU of PD Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai on Thursday after he suffered a cardiac arrest.

The hospital had released a statement saying that Joshi was in the Intensive Care Unit, under close observation.

"Mr Manohar Joshi, Ex-Chief Minister of Maharashtra, was admitted at P.D. Hinduja Hospital on 21st February 2024. He suffered a cardiac event and is severely ill," said the statement issued by Hinduja Hospital.

The Shiv Sena stalwart was admitted to the same hospital in May 2023 after he suffered a brain haemorrhage.

Joshi served as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra from the year 1995 to 1999 and was the Speaker of the Lok Sabha from 2002 to 2004.&nbsp;

He was also a Member of Rajya Sabha from 2006 to 2012, and Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises from 1999 to 2002.

<h2>PM Modi condoles demise of Joshi</h2>

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that he was pained by the veteran leader's demise.

"Pained by the passing away of Manohar Joshi. He was a veteran leader who spent years in public service and held various responsibilities at the municipal, state and national levels. As Maharashtra CM, he worked tirelessly for the state's progress. He also made noteworthy contributions as a Union Minister," PM Modi said in a post on X.

PM Modi further said that Joshi will be remembered for his diligence as a legislator.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis condoling Joshi's demise said that his contribution to society, politics and the field of education was immense.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray described Joshi as a trusted aide of Sena founder Bal Thackeray and someone who fought for the rights of the Marathi people.

BJP stalwarts L K Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi and Uma Bharti will appear before a special CBI court here tomorrow for framing of charges in the Babri Masjid demolition case. 
 
Besides them, Special CBI judge S K Yadav had asked BJP leader Vinay Katiyar, VHP&#39;s Vishnu Hari Dalmia and a one-time firebrand Hindutva preacher Sadhvi Ritambara to present themselves before the court in person. 
 
While directing the accused to present themselves in person, the judge had said no application for adjournment or exemption from personal appearance shall be entertained. 
 
The court, which is hearing two separate cases relating to the demolition of the Babri masjid, would also frame charges against Mahant Nritya Gopal Das, Mahant Ram Vilas Vedanti, Baikunth Lal Sharma alias Prem Ji, Champat Rai Bansal, Mahant Dharma Das and Satish Pradhan in the second matter. 
 
The Supreme Court had on April 19 ordered prosecution of Advani (89), Joshi (83), 58-year-old Bharti, and other accused for criminal conspiracy in the politically sensitive case. It had also ordered day-to-day trial to be concluded in two years. 
 
The top court had called the destruction of the medieval-era monument a &quot;crime&quot; which shook the &quot;secular fabric of the Constitution&quot; while allowing the CBI&#39;s plea seeking restoration of criminal conspiracy charge against the four BJP leaders, including Katiyar (62), and others. 
 
However, the Supreme Court had said BJP leader Kalyan Singh, who is the Rajasthan Governor and during whose tenure as the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh the disputed structure was razed, is entitled to immunity under the Constitution as long as he holds the gubernatorial office. 
 
It had transferred the case against Advani, Joshi, Bharti and three other accused from a Raebareli court to Lucknow for a joint trial in the demolition case.
