During the bail hearing for AAP leader Manish Sisodia on Tuesday (May 14), the Enforcement Directorate lawyer told the Delhi High Court that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) would also face charges in the case, with a supplementary chargesheet expected soon, according to ANI.

Despite there being only 17 arrests so far, more than 250 petitions have been submitted, causing the investigation officer to frequently appear in court, said the ED on delay in probe and trial while opposing Sisodia's bail request. This will be the first legal proceeding in which a political party is named as an accused.

The ED's counsel informed Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma, who is hearing arguments on Sisodia’s bail plea, that AAP would be named as a co-accused in the upcoming chargesheet.

The ED’s counsel also claimed that the accused are making efforts to delay the filing of charges in the case.

The ED lawyer submitted in court that the actions of Sisodia enabled Indospirits to earn profits of ₹192 crore during the 11 months when the Delhi excise policy was in force.

While seeking bail, Sisodia’s attorney argued that the ED and CBI continue to make arrests in the money laundering and corruption case, indicating that the trial will not be resolved quickly.

The Enforcement Directorate is investigating the money laundering aspect of the alleged scheme. This development follows the Supreme Court granting Kejriwal interim bail to campaign in the Lok Sabha elections just a few days ago.

After hearing all the arguments, the court reserved its order on Sisodia's bail plea.

K Kavitha's judicial custody extended till May 20

A Delhi court , meanwhile, extended the judicial custody of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha until May 20 on Tuesday (May 14) in relation to the Delhi excise policy case. The Rouse Avenue Court postponed the hearing on the sixth supplementary chargesheet submitted by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) as part of their investigation.

Last Friday, the ED had submitted a nearly 200-page prosecution chargesheet with annexures under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The chargesheet names Kavitha, daughter of former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, along with three employees of Chariot Productions Media Pvt Ltd — Damodar Sharma, Prince Kumar, and Chanpreet Singh — and a former India Ahead news channel employee, Arvind Singh, as accused.

Kavitha was arrested by the ED on March 15 from her residence in Hyderabad’s Banjara Hills. The central agency has accused her of being a key member of the ‘South Group,’ which allegedly paid a hefty amount in kickbacks to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for a substantial share of liquor licenses in Delhi under the now-cancelled 2021-22 excise policy.
