<p>Less than a month after communal tensions rocked the city of Leicester, United Kingdom, over 180 Hindu&nbsp;organisations and temples have written an open letter to the UK Prime Minister Lizz Truss.</p>

<p>Reportedly, the letter written by Insight UK, a platform for British Hindus and British Indians was signed by 180 Hindu organisations and sought urgent action from targetted hate crimes against the community.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“We write to draw your attention to the recent disturbances in Leicester, Birmingham and other towns which have greatly distressed the Indian and Hindu communities in the UK. Hatred towards the Hindu community is at an all-time high, to the point where there has been open violence, intimidation, and abuse levelled at Hindus through physical assaults, harassment on social media, and most recently through soft targeting in schools and the workplace,” read the letter.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The letter added that the Hindu community feels&nbsp;like it is 'under a seige' and that many in the community have already left their neighbourhood due to fear.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"This Hindu community now lives in a state of fear. While some families have already left the neighbourhood, many more are preparing to relocate. It is worth noting that a small, but highly organised band of radical Islamists took full advantage of the community tensions that existed between this marginalised Hindu community and their Muslim neighbours which previously lived in peace.”</p>

<p>Issuing a joint statement on Tuesday, leaders from the Jame Mosque and Iskcon Hindu temple pointed out the bonds of friendship shared between the two faiths and demanded that “inciters of hatred” leave the city alone.</p>

<p>Reading out the joint statement outside a mosque, President of Leicester's ISKCON temple Pradyumna Das said, “This is a statement of unity between the Hindu and Muslim community. We, the family of Leicester stand in front of you, not only as Hindus and Muslims, but as brothers and sisters. Our two faiths have lived harmoniously in this wonderful city for over half a century. We arrived in this city together. We faced the same challenges together.”</p>

<p>He said that they are “saddened and heartbroken to see the eruption of tension and violence” that led to 25 police officers being injured and 47 arrests over the weekend.</p>

<p>“We arrived in this city together. We face the same challenges together; we fought off racist haters together and collectively made this city a beacon of diversity and community cohesion,” the statement said.</p>

<p>According to the report, the men were heard chanting “Jai Shri Ram”, in which a video substantiating&nbsp;this claim was shared on Twitter purportedly showing&nbsp;men from the Hindu community throwing glass bottles on Belgrave Road.</p>

The Hindu and Muslim communities in Leicester clashed post the game resulting in huge disorder. There is tension rising in the area ever since due to speculations on social media. Videos have surfaced on social media showing a group of young men trying to vandalise a Hindu temple in the area. There were reports of numerous incidents of violence and damage across the city on Saturday and Sunday with the Leicestershire police deploying more officers to bring the situation under control. All fifteen people remain in police custody. “Officers became aware of groups of young men gathering on Sunday afternoon in the North Evington area of the city. Officers spoke to them and took steps, including putting in place a temporary police cordon, to minimise harm and disturbance to communities," the police said in a statement.
