Riyaz Ahmad, a Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist and a key operative of a terror module in Jammu and Kashmir was arrested at New Delhi railway station, police said on Tuesday (February 6). Ahmad is a retired Army person, as per a statement by Delhi Police. The arrest was made on February 4.

"The accused, Riyaz Ahmed, was a retired army personnel and was actively involved in hatching a conspiracy along with his associates to receive arms and ammunition from across the LoC by the terrorist handlers of LeT for carrying out subversive activities in J&amp;K," said the statement as reported by Business Today.

"The accused was involved in hatching conspiracy along with Khursheed Ahmad Rather and Ghulam Sarwar Rather in receiving arms and ammunition from across the LOC by the terrorist handlers," said KPS Malhotra, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Railways, as quoted by ANI.

The arrest was made after specific information from investigation agencies in Jammu and Kashmir. A terror module in Kupwara was busted by local agencies. Five people were arrested on January 27. Arms and ammunition were seized as well.

News agency ANI reported that the weapons were sent by Lashkar-e-Taiba handlers from Pakistan-Occupied-Kashmir (PoK).

Riyaz Ahmed was able to escape the action from the authorities and security forces learnt that he was likely to reach New Delhi Railway Station on Tuesday.

A police team comprising Inspector Vishwanath Paswan, SHO/NDRS, SI Naseeb Singh, ASI Yadram, ASI Sushil, HC Jaiveer and HC Gaurav and others was deployed at entry, exit points of New Delhi railway station and even inside the station.

"The alert staff acted promptly, identified the alleged Riyaz Ahmad in the crowd and apprehended him while he was trying to flee from Exit Gate No. 1 of New Delhi Railway Station in the early hours," said the DCP as quoted by ANI.

The Delhi Police have been put on high alert following intelligence inputs that a group of 20- 21 Laskar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists has entered the country to carry out attacks.&nbsp;

The Delhi Police Special Cell has issued an advisory alerting its district, metro police and railway police units, asking them to step up security in market areas, religious places, malls and metro and railway stations.&nbsp;

The advisory has asked various police units to maintain utmost vigil and keep a &quot;sharp eye for suspected persons/ articles and vehicles&quot; and conduct proper frisking and checking of vehicles and persons.&nbsp;

This advisory comes close on the heels of terror attacks in Manchester in the UK and several other places across the world.&nbsp;

Police sources say it is suspected that the group members might be putting up in Delhi, Mumbai, Rajasthan or Punjab.&nbsp;

Officials have also been asked to carry out mock drills to check preparedness of the their staff.&nbsp;

In a recent interview to PTI, Delhi Police commissioner Amulya Patnaik had said that they needed to make extra efforts in maintaining vigil since the national capital was a favourite target of terror outfits.&nbsp;

Ten PCR vans manned by National Security Guard-trained drivers and commandos have been deployed at vulnerable spots.&nbsp;

The Parakram vans will be stationed at Vijay Chowk, Palika Bazar, IP Marg, Select Citywalk Mall in Saket, Vasant Kunj Mall, Pacific Mall in Subhash Nagar, Netaji Subhash Place market and mall complex, Akshardham Temple, Lotus Temple and Jhandewalan.
