<p>The parents of the girl alleged that when questioned, the doctor claimed that a cyst had been diagnosed inside the mouth, making&nbsp;the tongue surgery&nbsp;necessary.</p>

<p>The family disproved this, asserting there had been no issue with the girl’s tongue and accused&nbsp;the doctor's of negligence and called it a shameful act.</p>

<p>A family member mentioned that hospital authorities later explained the error occurred because surgeries for two children had been scheduled on the same day.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The incident caused widespread outrage in the state, leading Health Minister Veena George to suspend the doctor on duty after receiving a report from the Director of Medical Education.</p>

<p>The minister has issued strict instructions for hospitals to strictly&nbsp;adhere&nbsp;to surgery and other medical procedures and protocols.</p>

<p>A police case was filed against the doctor based on a complaint from the girl's family, citing IPC Sections 336 (endangering the life or personal safety of others) and 337 (causing hurt by an act endangering the life or personal safety of others).</p>

<p>Meanwhile, Opposition Leader VD Satheesan condemned the incident and expressed concerns about the declining quality of medical services in the state.</p>

<p>The violent attack took place at the Kottarakkara Taluk Hospital in the early hours of Wednesday. After his wounds were dressed by a nurse, Sandeep reportedly picked up a pair of surgical scissors and went on a stabbing spree. He is said to have attacked the police personnel who brought him to the hospital and then went on to stab Dr. Vandana Das, a final year medical student serving as a house surgeon there. She sustained injuries to her head, neck and spine. He then went on to injure other hospital staff, vandalised the hospital till he was finally overpowered and restrained by security staff and other bystanders.</p>

<p>Kerala Finance Minister Thomas Isaac on Sunday said a 100 members medical team of doctors and nurses have left the state to assist Mumbai doctors in the battle against COVID-19.</p>

<p>"A 100 member medical team of doctors and nurses from Kerala led by Santhosh Kumar, Deputy Superintendent of Thiruvananthapuram Medical College volunteers, to assist Mumbai doctors in the battle against Covid-19. Advance team has already reached Seven Hills Hospital. Doctors without borders!" Isaac said in a tweet.</p>

<p>The development comes after Maharashtra requested Kerala to send doctors and healthcare workers to help the state in fighting COVID-19.</p>

<p>On May 25, Maharashtra Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) had written to Kerala government, urging them to send a team of doctors and nurses to Maharashtra on a temporary basis in fight against COVID-19.</p>

<p>This formal request came after the Kerala government offered to help Maharashtra in the battle against coronavirus by sending its medical team to Maharashtra.</p>

<p>"The cases of COVID-19 are continuously on a surge and this has put huge pressure on the health infrastructure of the state especially in terms of manpower crunch," DMER Dr TP Lahane had told.</p>

<p>Worst hit Maharashtra has so far reported 65,168 cases of coronavirus including 34,890 active cases. 28,081 people have been cured or discharged, while 2,197 people succumbed to the virus in the State.</p>
