<p>Three main accused in <a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/court-convicts-six-accused-in-kathua-rape-and-murder-case-1-acquitted-225877">Kathua rape and murder case</a>,&nbsp;who were convicted by the district court in Pathankot earlier today, have been sentenced to life imprisonment while three others&nbsp;have been given 5-year&nbsp;jail term.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Sanji Ram, the caretaker of the temple where the crime took place, Special Police Officer Deepak Khajuria and Parvesh Kumar, a civilian, have been convicted under Ranbir Penal Code sections pertaining to criminal conspiracy, murder, kidnapping, gangrape, destruction of evidence, drugging the victim and common intention, the lawyers said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>They have been sentenced to life imprisonment and fined Rs 1 lakh each for murder along with 25 years in jail for gangrape, they said.</p>

<p>Three accomplices -- Sub Inspector Anand Dutta, Head Constable Tilak Raj and special police officer Surender Verma -- who were convicted for destruction of evidence have been handed over five years imprisonment, they added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The district court in Pathankot today convicted<a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/what-we-know-about-the-kathua-rape-case-225882"> six accused </a>in the rape and murder of the eight-year-old girl in Kathua in Jammu and Kashmir(J&amp;K) while acquitted one.</p>

<p>Vishal Jangotra, one of the accused, who is the son of main accused Sanjhi Ram, was acquitted in the case.</p>

<p>Rahul Gandhi took to twitter stating that the number of rape cases of minors has increased to 19,675 in 2016. He further added that PM should fast track these cases and punish the guilty if he is serious about providing “justice for our daughters.”</p>
