<p>He added that Kargil Vijay Diwas reminds us of India`s military prowess.</p>

<p>The country is celebrating the eighteenth anniversary of `Kargil Vijay Diwas` today.</p>

<p>On July 26, 1999, the Indian Army successfully took back control of high-altitude posts in the Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir.</p>

<p>They had been fighting for 60 days.</p>

<p>More than 500 soldiers sacrificed their lives.</p>

<p>Four Param Vir Chakras, nine Maha Vir Chakras, and 53 Vir Chakras were awarded.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Kargil Vijay Diwas&nbsp;commemorates India`s victory against Pakistan and honours the heroes of that war.</p>

<p>Defence Minister Arun Jaitley and the chiefs of the three services paid floral tributes at Amar Jawan Jyoti, India Gate.</p>

<p>Last Sunday, the Kargil Parakram Rally was organised at India Gate to recall the valour of the soldiers who won back the Kargil heights.</p>
