A growing cyber scam is exploiting job seekers by using fake employment offers as a cover for financial crime. Fraudsters are convincing unsuspecting applicants to receive, transfer, or move money on behalf of supposed employers, effectively turning them into "money mules" used to launder illicit funds. As online recruitment becomes increasingly common, cybercriminals are finding new ways to target vulnerable job hunters with promises of easy income and remote work opportunities. Authorities are urging applicants to verify job offers, research companies thoroughly, and avoid handling money for unknown employers. Here's how the scam works and how to stay protected.

About 549 Indians lured into a cyber crime network with fake jobs have been rescued from Thailand. An Indian Air Force flight carrying the rescued nationals returned yesterday. According to India's Ministry of External Affairs, led with fake job offers, these nationals were made to indulge in cybercrime and other fraudulent activities in scam centers operating in regions along the Myanmar-Thailand border. The Myanmar Army rescued them, and the Indian embassies in Myanmar and Thailand secured their repatriation in coordination with the local authorities in the state. Watch in for more details!

A United Nations report showed that last year, more than 100,000 people globally were trafficked into online scam centres in Cambodia.

Every year, thousands of people, most of them with technical skills, get lured by advertisements on social media platforms promising well-paid jobs in countries like Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar.
