<p>The Enforcement Directorate (ED) recovered a huge amount of cash, on Monday (May 6) after a series of raids across multiple locations in the Indian city of Ranchi, Jharkhand in connection with the case of the state’s rural development department’s head engineer, Virendra Ram.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The cash was recovered from the household help of Sanjiv Lal, personal secretary to Jharkhand Rural Development Minister Alamgir Alam. According to reports, the officials have found Rs 25 crore (nearly $3 million) of unaccounted cash.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Ram was arrested by the federal agency in February 2023 in a money laundering case linked to alleged irregularities in the implementation of some schemes.</p>

<p>The raids were simultaneously conducted across nine locations in the state, including the capital Ranchi, of which six were conducted under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).</p>

<p>A video of the raid shows a mountain of cash scattered across a room purportedly belonging to Lal’s household help. Alam, 70, is a Congress leader and represents the Pakur seat in the state assembly.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Additionally, one team of the federal agency, on Monday morning, reportedly scoured the city to locate Vikas Kumar, an engineer from the road construction department.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>BJP reacts to raids, cash recovered</strong></h2>

<p>“Corruption is not ending in Jharkhand. This money during elections indicates that there is a plan to spend this money in the elections. The Election Commission should take action on this,” said Jharkhand Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Pratul Shahdev.</p>

<p>Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das has said that the government's priority is to develop six backward districts of the state.</p>

<p>"Khunti, Simdega, Gumla, West Singhbhum, Pakur and Sahibganj are the most backward districts. The government's priority is to develop them," Das told a meeting of officials in Ranchi on Friday, an official release said.</p>

<p>Das asked deputy commissioners of these districts to focus on the most backward block and panchayat of these districts. Emphasis should be given to education, health, self-employment and infrastructure.</p>

<p>He asked the deputy commissioners to go to a backward village every week, meet the people, know their problems and solve them.</p>

<p>Das asked to take the services of retired teachers or youth on contract wherever teachers would be required in schools.</p>

<p>He asked to set up poultry society so that eggs could be served in midday meals in schools. The government would also procure eggs for midday meals.</p>

<p>He also asked to speed up electricity work and provide power under the 'Soubhagya Yozana' and solve drinking water problems.</p>

<p>Women&rsquo;s rights activist Sandhya strongly condemned the act, saying it encouraged &ldquo;anti-women ideology&rdquo;.</p>

<p>&quot;Being a chief minister, how can he encourage such kind of practice, how can he involve in such kind of practice? We strongly condemn this. It is nothing but encouraging anti-women ideology,&quot; she told ANI.</p>

<p>Guru Purnima is marked on the full-moon day of the Hindu month Ashadha and is celebrated by Hindus, Jains and Buddhists to honour one&rsquo;s gurus or teachers who guide us through our lives towards the path of enlightenment. The day falls in between June-July.</p>
