<p>Spanish police said a day earlier: "The Mountain Rescue and Intervention Group of the Civil Guard has located the lifeless body of a young man in the Masca area after 29 days of constant search," the police statement read. "All indications indicate that it could be the young British man who has been missing since last June 17."</p>

<p>LBT Global, a charity that has been supporting Slater’s family, said in a formal statement that the body was found with Slater’s clothing and possessions near the last known location of his mobile phone.</p>

<p>Nineteen-year-old Slater was last seen on June 17 while walking from Masca, a village in the northwest of the Canary Island, to Los Cristianos in the south, where he had been staying.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The journey full of rugged terrain would have taken approximately 11 hours on foot. But he never reached his destination.</p>

<p>On the morning of his disappearance, Slater made a frantic call to his friend Lucy Law, saying that he was "lost in the mountains, unaware of his surroundings, desperately needed a drink, and his phone was on 1%," Law recounted to media later.</p>

<p>The police suggested that the body was discovered in a very remote area and said that an autopsy will be conducted to confirm whether the death was accidental.</p>

<p>Jay Slater, an apprentice bricklayer from Oswaldtwistle in northwest England, had attended a music festival the day before he went missing on the Spanish island.</p>
