Abdel Rahman said the raids on the village were part of &quot;new military operations by the Syrian regime and its Russian ally targeting jihadist positions in Hama province&quot;.

Syrian and Russian warplanes on Saturday were heavily bombing IS jihadists north and east of Palmyra, which has changed hands several times in Syria`s nearly six-year war.

IS overran the city for the second time on December 11.

A day later, 53 civilians were killed in a barrage of raids on Oqayrabat and other nearby villages, according to the Observatory.&nbsp; 
The Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) also raised fears at the time that chemical weapons may have been used in air strikes on Oqayrabat.&nbsp;

The Observatory, which relies on a network of sources inside Syria for its information, says it determines whose planes carry out raids according to type, location, flight patterns and munitions used.

'I've never seen such war' says 90-year-old rescued from Mosul

The&nbsp;Iraqi television channel al-sumaria said on Wednesday that according to &#39;local sources&#39;, the Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi acknowledged defeat in Iraq. In the same message, the self-proclaimed caliph is said to have urged his men either to flee or to detonate themselves.&nbsp;

The news was picked up by the Press Trust of India and hence by several other major Indian media outlets without even raising a single shred of doubt&nbsp;on the authenticity of such a&nbsp;message sent by the IS chief. &nbsp;

According to an article published on the Saudi-owned channel al-Arabiya, the message recorded by al-Baghdadi was distributed among Islamic State preachers on Tuesday. &nbsp;

The main problem is that the original copy is not available anywhere&nbsp;and it is therefore impossible to independently verify it. Relying only on local undisclosed sources for a message of such importance is not enough. &nbsp;

It is necessary to conduct accurate analysis on the recorded voice and the related metadata before deciding that the message is definitely authentic. &nbsp;

In case the &#39;local sources&#39; story turns&nbsp;out to be correct, this would be the first time that the Islamic State, through&nbsp;the voice of its leader has&nbsp;admitted&nbsp;defeat.&nbsp;The authenticity of the message is clearly doubtful. If even part of the remaining terrorists succeed in merging with the local population fleeing the city, they will represent a huge&nbsp;danger to&nbsp;Iraq. &nbsp;

Finding explosive and weapons is unfortunately very easy in the country and it takes only a small terrorist cell <a href="http://www.wionews.com/world/51-dead-in-third-car-bomb-attack-in-baghdad-in-3-days-12487">to plot a massacre</a>, as recently&nbsp;<a href="http://www.wionews.com/world/islamic-state-claims-responsibility-for-car-bomb-attack-in-baghdad-10959">seen in the capital city of Baghdad</a>. &nbsp;

It is plausible that the Islamic State leader, whose whereabouts are presently unknown, has strategically ordered the fighters to try to flee and hide. &nbsp;

The organisation is evidently on its way to being militarily defeated in Mosul. Terrorists are now isolated in the western part of the city without any possibility to escape and the Iraqi army is advancing each day. It could take three more months, but it is undoubtedly the beginning of the end of the IS control over Mosul.&nbsp;

In this context it is in the obvious strategical interest of the organisation to preserve its fighters in order to reorganise later, to form new cells in other cities and prepare new attacks. &nbsp;

In the last few days, the Iraqi Army has publicly declared that Islamic State fighters <a href="http://www.wionews.com/world/as-civilians-flee-mosul-a-delicate-search-for-jihadists-12931">are hiding among refugees</a> fleeing from the war-torn neighbourhoods of Mosul.&nbsp;

From a strategic point of view, it is unlikely that al-Baghdadi decided to order retreat on a large scale and in a public way, releasing a message which could have ended up in enemies&#39; hands and used against them. &nbsp;

It would have been pointless&nbsp;for al-Baghdadi to publicly admit defeat without negotiating a retreat or a safe zone for his fighters. The risk would be that all remaining troops could disorderly desert and run away, loosing the city in a few days and undermining the organisation&#39;s reputation even further.&nbsp;

Many IS fighters perceive death in battle as a glorious martyrdom in the war to defend Islam. Therefore, it is also very unusual that an organisation like the Islamic state admits defeat among its members. The military concept &#39;defeat&#39; is not part of their political lexicon, at least not when they speak about themselves. &nbsp;

The IS strategy is to fight until the very end, whatever the cost. The Iraqi army, supported by US-led coalition, entered Mosul on the first days of November 2016. Since then, airstrikes and thousands of ground troops have had&nbsp;significant success, but the Islamic State has been fighting back. The IS have also stepped up guerrilla operations and suicide attacks against regular troops. &nbsp;

Losing ground in Mosul is certainly not good news for the Islamic state. Territory is important for the IS reputation: it supports their narrative of being truly capable of building a real caliphate. &nbsp;

After Qassem&#39;s lecture, the men are ordered to stand and place their hands on the shoulders of the person in front of them.

Then a local notable, an older man in an immaculate white headscarf leaning on a carved, varnished walking stick, scans each row as he confers with an intelligence officer.

The officer, who declined to give his name, orders each row to sit once it has been reviewed.

Then he addresses the group: &quot;If you know someone who pledged allegiance or who worked with Daesh, don&#39;t be afraid. Daesh is finished,&quot; he says.

He beckons a young man in a tracksuit to stand up and come over.

As civilians flee Mosul, a delicate search for jihadists

Russian warplanes bombed US-backed fighters in several small villages in northern Syria after they mistakenly thought Islamic State forces were in the area, a top US general said Wednesday.&nbsp;

Army Lieutenant General Stephen Townsend said Russian and Syrian regime aircraft attacked the villages to the south-east of Al-Bab in Aleppo province on Tuesday, resulting in an unspecified number of casualties.

The Russians apparently had observed IS fighters moving out of the area and so wrongly assumed that incoming forces were jihadists.

&quot;We had some Russian aircraft and regime aircraft bomb some villages that I believe they thought were held by ISIS, yet ... actually on the ground were some of our Syrian Arab Coalition forces,&quot; Townsend told reporters in a video call from Baghdad.

The SAC forms part of a broader alliance called the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) comprising Kurdish and other groups that the United States have been training and advising to lead the fight against IS.

Townsend added that US troops were less than five kilometres (three miles) away from the villages and observed the bombing.

The American soldiers communicated the error, which was then quickly passed on to the Russians through a special &quot;deconfliction&quot; hotline the two powers have established to avoid mishaps.

&quot;It became apparent that the strikes were falling on some of the Syrian coalition positions,&quot; Townsend said.&nbsp;

&quot;Some quick calls were made to our deconfliction channels and the Russians acknowledged and stopped bombing there.&quot;

Townsend referred casualty questions back to the SAC.

The United States currently has about 500 troops in Syria, almost all of them special operations commandos. Their role is currently limited to advising local forces and staying behind front lines.

Hardly straightforward to begin with, the anti-IS fight in civil war-torn Syria is growing ever more complex.

Russia is using air power to prop up the regime of President Bashar al-Assad but also sometimes strikes IS.&nbsp;

Turkey has moved into northern Syria and is battling IS while also trying to keep US-backed Kurdish forces in check.

And America is trying to support the Kurds while not alienating ally Turkey.

Russian warplanes bombed US-backed fighters in several small villages in northern Syria after they mistakenly thought Islamic State forces were in the area, a top US general said Wednesday. Army Lieutenant General Stephen Townsend said Russian and Syrian regime aircraft attacked the villages to the south-east of Al-Bab in Aleppo province on Tuesday, resulting in an unspecified number of casualties. The Russians apparently had observed IS fighters moving out of the area and so wrongly assumed that incoming forces were jihadists. "We had some Russian aircraft and regime aircraft bomb some villages that I believe they thought were held by ISIS, yet ... actually on the ground were some of our Syrian Arab Coalition forces," Townsend told reporters in a video call from Baghdad. The SAC forms part of a broader alliance called the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) comprising Kurdish and other groups that the United States have been training and advising to lead the fight against IS. Townsend added that US troops were less than five kilometres (three miles) away from the villages and observed the bombing. The American soldiers communicated the error, which was then quickly passed on to the Russians through a special "deconfliction" hotline the two powers have established to avoid mishaps. "It became apparent that the strikes were falling on some of the Syrian coalition positions," Townsend said. "Some quick calls were made to our deconfliction channels and the Russians acknowledged and stopped bombing there." Townsend referred casualty questions back to the SAC. The United States currently has about 500 troops in Syria, almost all of them special operations commandos. Their role is currently limited to advising local forces and staying behind front lines. Hardly straightforward to begin with, the anti-IS fight in civil war-torn Syria is growing ever more complex. Syrian government and opposition delegates to peace talks in Geneva on Saturday warned of the impact on negotiations after a day of violence in Syria that included jihadist suicide bombings and missile strikes by the air force.

The United Nations opened the peace talks with a symbolic ceremony on Thursday in Geneva, attended by representatives of the warring sides. But there has been no further direct contact with UN&nbsp;mediator Staffan de Mistura, who is still trying to get agreement on how the talks should be arranged.

With tensions palpable among participants, the United Nations is treading carefully in its efforts to revive negotiations after a 10-month hiatus.

&quot;Every time we have talks, or negotiations, there is always someone who tries to spoil,&quot; de Mistura told reporters before meeting the government delegation. &quot;I am expecting (it),&quot; he said.

A ceasefire brokered by Russia and Turkey with Iran&#39;s support is increasingly violated with groups opposed to the truce and the Geneva process also attempting to force their collapse.

Suicide bombers stormed two Syrian security offices in Homs on Saturday, killing dozens with gunfire and explosions including the head of military security, prompting airstrikes against the last rebel-held enclave in the western city.&nbsp;

The jihadist rebel alliance Tahrir al-Sham, which opposes the talks - although it has fought alongside factions that are represented there - said that five suicide bombers had carried out the attack. It celebrated with the words &quot;thanks be to God&quot; but stopped short of explicitly claiming responsibility.

Tahrir al-Sham was formed this year from several groups including Jabhat Fateh al-Sham, which was formerly known as the Nusra Front and was al Qaeda&#39;s Syrian branch until it broke formal allegiance to the global jihadist movement in 2016.

Violence in Syria rattles regime, rebel peace talks in Geneva

Iraqi warplanes have struck Islamic State targets inside Syria in retaliation for recent bomb attacks in Baghdad by the group, Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said on Friday.

It appeared to be the first time Iraqi jets have conducted such raids across the border. A Syrian source said the strikes had been coordinated with Damascus.

Islamic State, which is now on the defensive after losing control of eastern Mosul in Iraq to a US-backed Iraqi military offensive, has claimed responsibility for several car bombs in Baghdad in the capital in the past few weeks.

Iraqi warplanes hit IS targets inside Syria for first time

An Islamic State car bomb killed more than 50 people on Friday in a Syrian village held by rebels, a war monitor said, a day after the jihadist group was driven from its last stronghold in the area.

The blast in the village of Sousian hit a security checkpoint controlled by rebels fighting under the Free Syrian Army (FSA) banner. 
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a monitor of the war based in Britain, said more than 50 people died including over 30 civilians. Two rebels contacted by Reuters put the total death toll at at least 40.

One of the two, a fighter with the Sultan Murad Brigade near al-Bab, said: &quot;It was done on a checkpoint but there were a lot of families there gathered and waiting to get back to al-Bab. Therefore we have many civilian casualties.&quot;

The Turkey-backed rebels drove Islamic State from the town of al-Bab on Thursday, following weeks of street battles near where Ankara wants to establish a safe zone for civilians.

Turkey`s military said on Friday that Syrian rebels had taken full control of all of al-Bab, and that work to clear mines and unexploded ordnance was under way.

Sousian is behind rebel lines about 8 km (5 miles) northwest of al-Bab, around which Ankara has long supported the formation of a security zone it says would help to stem a wave of migration via Turkey into Europe.

US-backed Iraqi forces are engaged in a massive firefight with Islamic State fighters to clear the way to Mosul&#39;s airport, on the second day of a ground offensive on the jihadists&#39; remaining stronghold in the western side of the city.

Federal police and elite interior ministry units known as Rapid Response are leading the charge toward the airport, located on the southern limit of the Mosul, trying to dislodge the militants from a nearby hill known as Albu Saif. The Iraqi forces plan is to turn the airport into a close support base for the onslaught into western Mosul itself.

Iraqi Army Brigadier General Yahya Rasul, spokesperson for the Joint Operations Command, told to the Kurdish media Rudaw that they will face approximately 1,800 Islamic State militants with at least 200 suicide bombers ready to strike.&nbsp;

Islamic State militants are under siege in western Mosul, along with an estimated 650,000 civilians, after they were forced out of the eastern part of the city in the first phase of an offensive that concluded last month, after 100 days of fighting.

Helicopters were strafing the Albu Saif hill to clear it of snipers, while machine gun fire and rocket-propelled grenades could be heard. The advancing forces also disabled a car bomb - used by the militants to obstruct attacking forces. The Iraqi forces have been advancing so far in sparsely populated areas.&nbsp;

On Monday morning the Iraqi army took control of the main power station which supplies electricity to Mosul&rsquo;s entire western bank.

This third phase of the Mosul offensive could be the last military offensive against the Islamic State in Iraq. This does not mean that the organisation is completely destroyed, they still have a&nbsp;strong <a href="http://www.wionews.com/world/the-intimate-invitation-deciphering-the-ideological-appeal-of-the-islamic-state-12128">influence</a>&nbsp;on young men across the region&nbsp;who are ready to take up arms and fight back.

One bomb missing the objective could cost hundreds of innocent lives. It is also very difficult to gather intelligence insights from the city since the Islamic State controls nearly all the communications and everyone who is found in possess of a phone carrying suspicious numbers will be executed in cold blood.

Living in western Mosul during this phase of the operation is highly risky, the city&#39;s population has been <a href="http://www.wionews.com/videos/inside-mosul-civilians-pay-highest-price-in-war-between-iraqi-army-is-1360">bearing the brunt of the offensive</a> since months. The Islamic State is in a full-war mode and it is ready to kill whoever tries to escape and reach the eastern area of the city, currently under Iraqi army control. The city suffers also a severe shortage of any primary necessity, from food to running water.

Many of the inner streets are very small and while advancing&nbsp;soldiers do not always enjoy support of armoured vehicles and might even conduct operations on foot in a pure guerrilla style warfare. This makes them highly prone to deadly ambush&nbsp;and sniper fire - both methods that the Islamic State have used extensively during previous battles.&nbsp;

Iraqi forces launched an offensive on jihadists defending Mosul`s west bank Sunday, in what could be the most brutal fighting yet in a four-month-old operation on the city.

&quot;Our forces are beginning the liberation of the citizens from the terror of Daesh,&quot; Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said in a short televised speech, using an Arabic acronym for the Islamic State group.

&quot;We announce the start of a new phase in the operation. We are coming, Nineveh, to liberate the western side of Mosul,&quot; he said, referring to the province of which Mosul is the capital.

Federal police and interior ministry forces were expected to start the new phase in the offensive by moving on Mosul airport, which is on the southern edge of the city, west of the Tigris River.

The jihadists have put up stiff resistance to defend Mosul, their last major stronghold in Iraq and the place where their leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi proclaimed a &quot;caliphate&quot; in 2014.

After shaping operations around Mosul, it took Iraq`s most seasoned forces -- the elite Counter-Terrorism Service (CTS) -- more than two months to clear the eastern side of Mosul.

After a pause in the operation launched on October 17, federal forces now face what was always billed as the toughest nut to crack: Mosul`s west bank, home to the narrow streets of the Old City.

Prior to the offensive that saw IS seize Mosul and much of Iraq`s Sunni Arab heartland nearly three years ago, the east bank was more ethnically diverse than the west, where analysts believe the jihadists could enjoy more support.&quot;IS resistance could be greater in this area and it will be harder, but all the more important, to completely clear the networks from Mosul after its recapture,&quot; said Emily Anagnostos, Iraq analyst at the Institute for the Study of War.

While the federal forces` attrition is said to be high, IS`s had been undoubtedly higher and commanders have said the jihadists may no longer have the resources to defend east Mosul effectively.&nbsp;

Recent incidents in liberated east point to the difficulty of ensuring remnants of IS have not blended in with the civilian population in a huge city which most residents did not flee ahead of the government offensive.

Aid organisations had feared an exodus of unprecedented proportions before the start of the Mosul operation but half a million -- a significant majority -- of residents stayed home.

Their continued presence prevented both sides from resorting to deadlier weaponry, which may have slowed down the battle but averted a potentially much more serious humanitarian emergency in the middle of winter as well as more extensive material damage to the city.

&quot;Mosul is going better than we expected, but there are serious dangers ahead,&quot; Lise Grande, UN humanitarian coordinator in Iraq, told AFP.

Residents of west Mosul have reported very difficult living conditions and warned that they were already low on food, with weeks of fighting expected to lie ahead.

IS fighters and Mosul residents remained able to move across both sides of the city during much of the fighting in the east but all bridges across the Tigris have now been dropped and the jihadists in the west are all but besieged.

IS has used civilians as human shields as part of its defence tactics and killed residents attempting to flee, making it both difficult and dangerous for the population to escape.

While specialised units may attempt to throw pontoon bridges across the river to attack from the east, the main initial assault of the upcoming phase in the Mosul is expected to come from the south on the city`s airport.

Army, police, interior ministry and special forces have been gearing up for the push on Mosul`s southern front, with a large concentration of fighters based out of Hammam al-Alil.&nbsp;

Iraqi planes drop leaflets on west Mosul to say offensive is imminent

Turkish bombardment of an Islamic State group-held town in Syria has killed 24 civilians, a monitor said Thursday, but Turkey&#39;s army said only &quot;terrorists&quot; died in the operation.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the dead in air strikes and shelling on the town of al-Bab in the last 24 hours included 11 children.

Turkey&#39;s army, quoted by the state-run Anadolu news agency said it had killed 15 &quot;terrorists&quot; in air strikes, artillery fire and clashes.

Al-Bab is IS&#39;s final stronghold in the northern Syrian province of Aleppo and has come under fierce attack by Turkish forces and allied Syrian rebels in recent months.

The joint force entered Al-Bab over the weekend, and Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said Tuesday that the town had &quot;largely been taken under control.&quot;

The Observatory however said Turkish forces had made little progress since entering the town from the west.

Turkey began military operations in Syria in August, targeting both IS and Kurdish fighters.

Initially its forces advanced quickly, but they stalled around al-Bab in December.

The town is also a key target for Syrian government forces, who had been advancing towards from the south.

But they have yet to enter al-Bab, instead focused on clearing IS-held territory in the surrounding countryside in recent days.

More than 310,000 people have been killed in Syria since the conflict began in March 2011 with anti-government protests.

24 civilians killed in Turkish bombing in Syria's al-Bab

A car packed with explosives blew up on Thursday in southern Baghdad, killing at least 51 people and wounding 55, security and medical sources said, in the deadliest such attack in Iraq this year.

Islamic State, which is on the defensive after losing control of eastern Mosul to a US-backed Iraqi military offensive, claimed responsibility for the bombing in an online statement.

As it cedes territory captured in a 2014 offensive across northern and western Iraq, the ultra-hardline group has stepped up insurgent strikes on government areas, particularly in the capital Baghdad.

Security sources said the vehicle which blew up on Thursday was parked in a crowded street full of garages and used car dealers, in Hayy al-Shurta, a Shi&#39;ite district in the southwest of the city.

The death toll could climb further as many of the wounded are in critical condition, a doctor said.

The bombing is the second to hit car markets this week, suggesting the group has found it easier to leave vehicles laden with explosives in places where hundreds of other vehicles are parked.&nbsp;

A suicide bomber detonated a pick-up truck on Wednesday in Sadr City, a poor Shi`ite suburb in the east of the capital, killing at least 15 people. That explosion took place in a street full of used car dealers.

51 dead in third car bomb attack in Baghdad in 3 days

The US Defense Department may recommend that the United States deploy regular combat troops to Syria to fight Islamic State militants, CNN reported on Wednesday.

The idea is one of several ideas the Pentagon is considering after President Donald Trump gave defence officials until the end of the month to come up with proposals to speed up the war against Islamic State.

A US official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said the United States already had a small number of special operation troops in Syria. The official added that the review was still underway and no options had been presented to Trump.

CNN said the proposal was not fully developed and was one of several ideas being considered.

On India

Anchal: Thank you very much for speaking with us. Has the Free Syrian Army established any contact with the India government and what are your expectations from them?

Col. Afise: May peace be upon you. You are welcome. We were expecting from the Indian government to support us but they are supporting the regime. India is a symbol of freedom. We were peaceful in our demonstrations like Gandhi who fought the British, we took inspiration from him but India, may be, forgot its history and Gandhi. We started the revolution in a peaceful way but the regime attacked us and shot us. That is why I defected from the army to support the Syrian people and get our freedom.

Anchal: You say you want India&#39;s support but Syrian government says the protests were not peaceful. They were violent. They show videos of protestors beheading Syrian army. How do you respond to that?

Col. Afise:&nbsp;India is a superpower and they have good intelligence. It is impossible that the Syrian regime tells lies to the Indian government. They have to know the truth because they are a superpower and have great intelligence network.

On Syrian government&#39;s lies

Anchal: The Syrian government also said that the protesters asked for extremists to be released from the prison and because of that these terrorists are on the ground. Why did you ask for these terrorists to be released?

Col. Afise:&nbsp;We didn&#39;t ask for the criminals to be released. We asked Assad to release people who got arrested in the revolution. The extremists were arrested before the revolution. They were released by the regime and then they formed different terror groups and became their leaders. Assad knew if these extremists are released they will destroy the revolution.

Anchal: You are saying the defectors never asked for the extremists to be released?

Col. Afise:&nbsp;We didn&#39;t ask the government to release them. They were in the jail. They were not only in Sednaya military prison in Syria but 950 came from prison in Iraq. Al Maliki claims they escaped the jail but Al Maliki did this so that they can join the war and the Islamic State.

Anchal:&nbsp;So are you saying that Assad and Maliki created the ISIS problem?

Col. Afise:&nbsp;Not only Bashar al-Assad and Maliki but also Iran. The plan between Iran, Assad, Maliki and Hezbollah is to create a Shia country from Iran to Bahrain.

On Al Bab

Anchal:&nbsp;What is the situation in Al Bab and if your figters are in Al Bab?

Col. Afise:&nbsp;I am involved in the Operation Euphrates Shield. We kicked ISIS from the north of Al Bab and we are fighting in Al Bab. Now we are in the middle of Al Bab. &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; 
&nbsp;&nbsp; 
Anchal:&nbsp;How long before your fighters will take Al Bab?

Col. Afise:&nbsp;We took the biggest part of Al&nbsp;Bab and by tomorrow we take all of it. Very soon Isha Allah.

On Penatgon and Raqqa

Anchal:&nbsp;Is there any conversation that you have had with the Pentagon on Raqqa?

Col. Afise:&nbsp;We all know that America supports Kurdish forces and they call them Syrian Democratic Forces. If they ask me to fight beside Kurdish forces against ISIS, I will never accept that because they are against our ideology and they don&#39;t support the Syrian revolution.

On Russia

&nbsp;Anchal:&nbsp;The Russians invited you to meet with them. What did they talk about?

Col. Afise:&nbsp;I met them but Russia won&#39;t be involved in finding peaceful solution in Syria because they support the Assad regime.

Anchal:&nbsp;What about the Russians?&nbsp;Are they more interested in fighting ISIS or Jabhat Al Nusra?

Col. Afise:&nbsp;Russia doesn&#39;t care about ISIS. They only care about Nusra. The proof is that they don&#39;t attack ISIS and only Nusra and the Free Syrian Army. The reason is because Chechen people joined Nusra and they don&#39;t want them to come to Nusra.

Anchal:&nbsp;What about America? Is America&#39;s focus ISIS, Nusra, Al Qaeda or all?

Col. Afise:&nbsp;United State&#39;s only focus is to fight ISIS, not Nusra.

Anchal:&nbsp;What about you?

Col. Afise:&nbsp;For me, I have too many enemies -- Syrian regime, Nusra, ISIS and Kurdish militia but other countries, they have only one enemy.

Anchal:&nbsp;So, can you fight with so many enemies? Or will you crack a deal with the devil and join hands with some of these groups?

Col. Afise:&nbsp;I will continue fighting all the enemies of the Syrian people. I deal with other countries. The deal depends on the goals of the revolution, goals of my country. If useful, I will crack a deal. In politics, there are no permanent friends or enemies. As long as the deal is useful for the Syrian revolution.&nbsp;

On biggest challenge

Anchal:&nbsp;What is your biggest challenge in order to fight ISIS and Nusra?

Col. Afise:&nbsp;We need good quality weapons. To fight ISIS and Nusra, we have weapons but they are not of good quality. 
&nbsp; 
Anchal:&nbsp;Exactly what weapons and how many do you need?

Col. Afise:&nbsp;We need anti-tank and anti-aircraft missiles but of good qauality and we need long range weapons. If we get this, you won&#39;t find ISIS and Nusra type groups here. Before we were fighting like gangsters fight on the streets. Now, it&#39;s a fight between cities. So, we need such weapons. We have a huge goal and we can&#39;t decide how much we need.

Anchal:&nbsp;But your weapons have gone in the hands of ISIS and Nusra in the past?

Col. Afise:&nbsp;We are a power on the ground now and will not let anyone take our weapons.

On Russia Anchal: The Russians invited you to meet with them. What did they talk about? Col. Afise: I met them but Russia won't be involved in finding peaceful solution in Syria because they support the Assad regime. Anchal: What about the Russians? Are they more interested in fighting ISIS or Jabhat Al Nusra? Col. Afise: Russia doesn't care about ISIS. They only care about Nusra. The proof is that they don't attack ISIS and only Nusra and the Free Syrian Army. The reason is because Chechen people joined Nusra and they don't want them to come to Nusra. Anchal: What about America? Is America's focus ISIS, Nusra, Al Qaeda or all? Col. Afise: United State's only focus is to fight ISIS, not Nusra. Anchal: What about you? Col. Afise: For me, I have too many enemies -- Syrian regime, Nusra, ISIS and Kurdish militia but other countries, they have only one enemy. Anchal: So, can you fight with so many enemies? Or will you crack a deal with the devil and join hands with some of these groups? Col. Afise: I will continue fighting all the enemies of the Syrian people. I deal with other countries. The deal depends on the goals of the revolution, goals of my country. If useful, I will crack a deal. In politics, there are no permanent friends or enemies. As long as the deal is useful for the Syrian revolution. On biggest challenge Anchal: What is your biggest challenge in order to fight ISIS and Nusra? Col. Afise: We need good quality weapons. To fight ISIS and Nusra, we have weapons but they are not of good quality. Anchal: Exactly what weapons and how many do you need? Col. Afise: We need anti-tank and anti-aircraft missiles but of good qauality and we need long range weapons. If we get this, you won't find ISIS and Nusra type groups here. Before we were fighting like gangsters fight on the streets. Now, it's a fight between cities. So, we need such weapons. We have a huge goal and we can't decide how much we need. A US military official has confirmed that depleted uranium rounds were used in airstrikes conducted in Islamic State-held areas in Syria in 2015.

US Central Command spokesman Maj. Josh Jacques told Aiwars and Foreign Policy that more than 5,000 rounds containing&nbsp;depleted uranium were fired from A-10 fixed wing aircrafts in raids that took place on November 16 and November 22, 2015,&nbsp;

The last time the US used depleted uranium was during the Iraq invasion in 2003 after which it had to face severe backlash from locals.

It had vowed not to use it in future.&nbsp;

The Iraqi government had expressed fears that the use of deplted uranium will have adverse health effects on the local population.

The airstrikes on tanker trucks in Syria in 2015 were part of an operation to dismantle the oil assets of Islamic State.&nbsp;

The oil supply chain was used by the Islamic State to earn millions of dollars to fund its operations.

US used depleted uranium in airstrikes on IS-held areas in Syria, confirms military official

The Iraqi air force has targeted a meeting of commanders from the Islamic State group that its leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi may have been attending, a statement said on Monday.

It was not clear in the statement sent by the Joint Operations Command coordinating the fight against the jihadists in Iraq whether the world&#39;s most wanted terrorist had been hit.

An intelligence cell monitored a convoy that the statement said transported Baghdadi from the area of Raqa, the jihadists&#39;&nbsp;main Syrian stronghold, across the border to the Al-Qaim area in western Iraq.

The statement said Iraqi air force F-16 jets struck a meeting of top IS commanders on February 11 but provided no additional information on Baghdadi&#39;s fate.
