The Supreme Court in Iran ordered a retrial of&nbsp;an individual who was previously sentenced to death for his involvement in the protests in the wake of the death of Mahsa Amini. The Iranian judiciary announced on Wednesday that Mahan Sadrat was among the dozens of protesters who were sentenced to death by the court but a retrial will be launched in order to examine further evidence.&nbsp;

"The accused's request for a retrial was found to be in accordance with the law... and so the case was referred to the court for retrial," the judiciary's Mizan Online news website reported.&nbsp;

The 22-year-old Mahsa Amini was detained by Iran’s morality police for flouting the country’s hijab law and later in the day, she was found dead with the post-mortem report showing trauma to both her body and head. The death resulted in massive protests all around the country with women taking to the streets with placards against the regime and even burning their hijabs as a show of protest.&nbsp;

Sadrat was charged with "moharebeh" -- or "enmity against God – by the Iranian court and under sharia law, he was sentenced to death. Earlier, news agency IRNA reported that security forces detained him after he allegedly drew a knife in public and caused panic in the public by attempting to attack.&nbsp;

Till now, 11 people have been sentenced to death in connection to the protests with two executions - Majidreza Rahnavard and Mohsen Shekari – already taking place in the past few weeks.&nbsp;

Sahand Noormohammadzadeh was found guilty of "enmity against god" last month over accusations of blocking traffic and setting a bin on fire and is one of those facing a death sentence.

As per a BBC Persian report citing an anonymous source Noormohammadzadeh has been subject to mock executions three times already.

Without disclosing their identities, the Iranian judiciary has announced that six protestors have so far been sentenced to death for &nbsp;"enmity against God" or "corruption on earth". Noormohammadzadeh was identified as one of the death row inmates by his lawyer on Saturday.&nbsp;

The 27-year-old as per the Iranian judiciary's Mizan news agency was on trial before a Revolutionary Court for "[acts of] vandalism and arson of public property with the aim of causing disruption to the country's peace and order and confronting the Islamic government".

As evidence the court presented a video of a masked man performing the alleged acts of vandalism; the masked man who it's been alleged is Sahand Noormohammadzadeh can be seen tearing down a railing and placing it between traffic and pushing a burning garbage bin onto the road.

However, the accused has denied all allegations, his lawyers claim that there's no evidence that the masked man on the tape is in fact him.

Reportedly the prosecution may be based on a letter of apology accepting these charges, which as per BBC could've been signed under false pretenses. As per BBC Persian's sources, the 27-year-old might've been lied to about his mother suffering a heart attack and promised one last conversation with the dying woman in lieu of signing the letter of apology.

Following the conviction of the six people on death row, Amnesty International has expressed concerns over "sham trials".

While these death sentences can be appealed as per judiciary chief Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei's statement from Monday the executions would happen soon.

There have been heightened concerns over torture and ill-treatment of the protesters in jail. under international human rights law, cruel or degrading treatment of people in custody is prohibited. As per Human Rights Activists' News Agency (HRANA) since the start of the protests over Mahsa Amini's death at the hands of Iran's morality police, more than 470 protestors, including women and children have been killed, while more than 18,000 are under arrest.

Anti-government protests have shook Iran for over two months now, with some protesters even being handed the death penalty. A prominent Sunni cleric has hit back at the death sentence, saying it was wrong to charge protesters with capital offences.

Molavi Abdolhamid, who is a powerful dissenting Sunni voice in the Shi'ite-ruled Islamic Republic, said the hardline judiciary should not charge protesters with "moharebeh", an Islamic term meaning warring against God, which carries the death penalty.

"A person who has protested with stones and sticks or just by shouting should not be accused of moharebeh. What the Koran calls moharebeh is when a group uses arms and engages (in fighting)," Molavi Abdolhamid said in a Friday prayers sermon, according to his website.

Social media videos suggest that fresh protests have broken out in Iran in regions like Zahedan, the capital of Sistan-Baluchistan province where Molavi Abdolhamid spoke, Chabahar, Taftan and few more places. &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;

Iran Human Rights group posted videos showing minority ethnic Baluch women chanting "I will kill whoever killed my brother". In response, the police can be shooting what it said was birdshot and teargas at demonstrators. Another unverified video showed injured protesters treated at a makeshift clinic in a mosque.

Javaid Rehman, a UN-appointed independent expert on Iran, said on Tuesday that handing out death penalties to suppress protests is a matter of concern. He said that at least 21 people have been sentence to death till now, including a woman who was indicted on "vague and broadly formulated criminal offences".

United Nations puts the figure of those death till now in the protests at 300, with 14,000 arrested. Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini's death in police custody on September 16 after being arrested by the morality police for not wearing the hijab properly, sparked anger across the country.
