In a bid to raise the standards of umpiring and officiating in the country, Hockey India on Tuesday announced it will conduct an online test on March 29.

The online Test is designed as part of a program for professional development of the umpires and technical officials.&nbsp;

It will help them enhance their skill-based and knowledge-based expertise. It is also expected to illustrate the officials' knowledge levels of International Hockey Federation (FIH) rules and regulations.

The online test will focus on testing the practical and theoretical knowledge of the FIH Rules of hockey.

It is mandatory for any candidate appearing for this test to be registered with a Hockey India Permanent/ Associate State Member Unit.

The registration for the test begin on Tuesday and close on March 15 at 5pm.

"Organising this online test will only raise the bar of umpiring and technical officiating in India," said Rajinder Singh, Secretary General, Hockey India.

"We have several young men and women who want to stay connected to the game by professionally pursuing umpiring and Technical Official courses and we wanted to ensure they are on-par with the international standards."

India&#39;s men and women&#39;s hockey teams have to settle with 6th and 10th positions respectively by the year-end, as per the latest rankings revealed by the International Hockey Federation (FIH) on Tuesday.&nbsp;

The men&#39;s team which were at the sixth spot at the year&#39;s beginning had to settle with the same position despite their bronze medal win at the season-ending Hockey World League (HWL) Final on Sunday.

Whereas, the women&#39;s team started the year at the 12th spot but later gained two spots and were able to leapfrog Spain and Japan after their Asia Cup win last month. &nbsp;

At the top of men`s hockey, Australia knocked out Argentina for the first time since the Rio 2016 Olympics. Number one in the world is a familiar place for the Australians who, until the Olympics in Rio, had held the top spot since January 2014. The HWL Final title helped Australia topple the South American champions and 2016 Olympic gold medallists.

Belgium, Netherlands and Germany remain unchanged at third, fourth and fifth respectively.

In the women`s competition, the Netherlands retained their position at the top after they claimed the Sentinel Homes HWL Final title, followed by England and Argentina settling with second and third position respectively. &nbsp;
