Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar will embark on a four-day visit to USA from Tuesday and is expected to discuss bilateral issues including India&#39;s concerns over a possible clamp-down on H1-B visas and safety of Indians in the country.

Jaishankar will also hold talks on regional and international issues of mutual interest with senior members of the Donald Trump administration during the country, PTI reported.

Indian officials said Jaishankar would convey India&#39;s view to the US that Indian IT companies were contributing to the American economy by increasing the competitiveness of their firms. They added that the government was engaged with the Trump administration as well as members of the US Congress on concerns regarding the H1-B visa issue.

Jaishankar&#39;s visit will take place barely days after the killing of an Indian engineer in in Kansas in an apparent incident of hate crime. The foreign secretary is expected to discuss the issue of safety of Indian nationals in the country as well.

The H1-B visa is a non-immigrant visa that allows US companies to employ foreign workers in speciality occupations that require theoretical or technical expertise in specialised fields. IT companies depend on it to hire tens of thousands of employees each year.
