In a circular on Wednesday, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) stated: "The competent authority has decided to extend the suspension of scheduled international commercial passenger services to/from India till 2359 hrs IST of February 28, 2022."

This restriction shall not apply to international all-cargo operations and flight specifically approved by the DGCA, it mentioned.

Fights under air bubble arrangement will not be affected, it noted.

The DGCA had on November 26, 2021 announced that India will resume scheduled international passenger flights from December 15, 2021.

Just a day later, Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked the Civil Aviation Ministry and the DGCA to review its decision in wake of the rising concerns of the COVID-19 variant Omicron.

On December 1, 2021, the DGCA revoked its November 26 decision without saying how long the suspension of scheduled international flights would continue.&nbsp;

Indian aviation regulator extends suspension of international flights till February

International flight services, which were suspended owing to the Covid pandemic, could resume operations in India towards the year-end, government officials said on Wednesday.

The Indian government has been allowing commercial flights on a case-to-case basis till now.

Civil Aviation Secretary Rajiv Bansal said that international flight services are expected to be normalised “very soon” and “by the end of this year”.

All scheduled international flights were suspended since March 2020 during the pandemic. The suspension was then extended till November 30.

Recently, civil aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia had said that the government was keen to resume normal international travel operations, but in a safe environment.

“I am all for regaining our space in the civil aviation arena in the world and making a hub in India and for more wide body aircraft. We will get there but bear with me and trust me, I am on your side. We will work together but in a safe environment," he had said.

India has formed air-bubble pacts with around 28 countries, including the US, the UK, the UAE, Kenya, Bhutan and France.

Under an air-bubble pact between two countries, special international flights can be operated by their airlines between their territories with specific restriction.

Earlier this month,&nbsp;India and Singapore&nbsp;agreed to resume commercial flights. The Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) programme between the countries will allow quarantine-free travel. Six flights from Chennai, Delhi and Mumbai are scheduled to resume from November 29.

Aviation giant Emirates said Sunday it will resume flights from India from next week after Dubai lifted a ban imposed when coronavirus cases spiked.

The United Arab Emirates, which includes Dubai, suspended all flights from India, including for transit passengers, in April in an effort to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus.

"We will resume carrying passengers from South Africa, Nigeria and India... from June 23," Emirates said in a statement.

Dubai said on Saturday that only passengers from India "with a valid residence visa and who have received two doses of a UAE-approved vaccine" would be allowed to travel to the emirate.

They would also need a negative PCR test was taken within 48 hours of departure, a rapid test four hours before departure, and another PCR test on arrival with "institutional quarantine" required until the results are received.
