The partnership seeks to build cutting-edge ESD device solutions to protect ultra-high-speed serial interfaces in advanced Integrated Circuits (ICs) and system-on-chip (SoC) products. An integrated circuit refers to a circuit compressed into a small-sized chip, whereas a system-on-chip has computer-like capabilities and can run an operating system.&nbsp;The related research will be carried out by Professor&nbsp;Mayank Shrivastava’s group at the Department of Electronic Systems Engineering (DESE), IISc. Solutions arising from this research will be deployed in Samsung’s advanced process nodes, said the company.&nbsp;

The research agreement was exchanged by Balajee Sowrirajan, CVP &amp; MD at Samsung Semiconductor India Research, Bengaluru, and Prof Govindan Rangarajan, Director, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), in the presence of delegates from Samsung and IISc. "Our goal is also to increase capacity building through training programmes at the postgraduate level, opening up opportunities for students to pursue industry internships, and encourage entrepreneurial ventures by young researchers,"&nbsp;said Balajee Sowrirajan, CVP &amp; MD, SSIR.

"We have been collaborating extensively with semiconductor industries worldwide on advanced nanoelectronics technologies, including solutions to ESD reliability threats to advanced SoCs. We have carried out both fundamental and applied research on ESD protection devices, with a strong emphasis on creating practical solutions for the semiconductor industry in a range of technology nodes,” said Mayank, who heads the MSDLab, and will be leading this collaborative effort.

Samsung Semiconductor India Research, a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics, is the technology hub enabling innovative growth in both hardware development as well as software-powered solutions in semiconductor technologies.

Astronomers from McGill University in Canada and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bengaluru have used data from the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT) in Pune to detect a radio signal originating from atomic hydrogen in an extremely distant galaxy.

The study, “Understanding the mitigation potential of sustainable urban transport measures across income and gender groups”, observed that men tend to use personal transport more than women when their income rises.

The aim of the study is to evaluate the mitigation potential of eight income-gender groups to climate change mitigation policy bundles for the urban transportation sector.

In the study, the researchers further found that men contributed more to emissions due to a higher number of car trips, but their mitigation contribution is comparatively less than female groups.

“This scenario is more prominent in high-income male groups,” found the researchers, reports New Indian Express newspaper.

The study, which has been published in the Journal of Transport Geography, observed that carbon dioxide emission reductions were high in high-income groups and PM2.5 emissions (emissions of particulate matter lesser than 2.5 microns) reductions were high in the low-income and lower-middle-income groups.

It was further found that women from high-income groups preferred to use Metro trains if the services become attractive and reliable, while those from the lower income preferred buses because of the cost aspect, according to the research.

Women also walk more as the network connectivity for transport is not better linked. So, to get to the public transport they prefer to walk, the study said.

Notably, the study done by the IISc institute corroborates the research by Sweden experts that men had a higher carbon footprint than women.

The study published in the Journal of Industrial Ecology in 2021 stated that men were more likely to spend money on high-emitting categories, such as gasoline for cars, 70% more than women on that expenditure. Whereas Women spent more on health care, clothing and furniture — consumer categories that were less emitting.

Announcing the rankings at an event at the Vigyan Bhavan here on Tuesday, HRD minister Prakash Javadekar said the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT-M) has been adjudged the best engineering college and the Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad (IIM-A) the best management institution.

According to the national institutional ranking framework (NIRF), Delhi University's Miranda House was the best college, premier healthcare institute AIIMS the best medical college and NLSIU-Bengaluru the best law school in the country.

In the university category, IISc stood first, followed by Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and Banaras Hindu University (BHU).

The Indian Institute of Science was established in 1909 by a visionary partnership of industrialist Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata, the Maharaja of Mysore and the government of India, according to its official website.

Since its inception, the institute has laid a balanced emphasis on the pursuit of basic knowledge in science and engineering, as well as on the application of its research findings for the industrial and social benefit.

In the words of its founder, J N Tata, the objectives of the institute are "to provide for advanced instruction and to conduct original investigations in all branches of knowledge as are likely to promote the material and industrial welfare of India."

The institutions which fared well in the annual national rankings will be provided with more funding, enhanced autonomy and other benefits, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said.

&quot;The educational institutions performing well in the annual ranking will be awarded with more funding or grants, enhanced autonomy and freedom of functioning and various other benefits,&quot; he said at the release of the second domestic rankings under the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF).

"The educational institutions performing well in the annual ranking will be awarded with more funding or grants, enhanced autonomy and freedom of functioning and various other benefits," he said at the release of the second domestic rankings under the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF). "Policy regarding the same will be announced soon to encourage the spirit of competition and ultimately enhance the quality of education being imparted by the institutions across the country," he said.
