Tennessee high school students created a robotic hand to help a classmate whose right hand was not fully formed, in an act of friendship which the latter hailed as 'life-changing'.

Sergio Peralta, who got admitted to Henderson high school near Nashville in the fall, always tried to cover up his right hand which was not fully formed, reported CBS News.&nbsp;

“As I was growing up, like during my first years of school, I had a lot of people asked me what’s wrong with … my hand, lots of people, and I used to just say even in kindergarten, ‘I was born like that',” stated the 15-year-old Sergio.&nbsp;

“In the first days of school (at Henderson), I honestly felt like hiding my hand – like nobody would ever find out," he added.&nbsp;

However, Sergio’s engineering teacher Jeff Wilkins learned about the boy's right hand eventually and assured him that his classmates might be able to help him.&nbsp;

In four weeks, the classmates designed, sized and 3D printed a prosthetic hand for Sergio, which changed his life. Sergio, for the first time, used the new prosthetic to catch a ball using his right hand. &nbsp;

He said that although he grew up without a fully formed right hand, he used to do “almost everything”. He added that only after getting the prosthetic, &nbsp;he was able to catch a ball using his right hand.&nbsp;

Henderson student Leslie Jaramillio said that the spirit of engineering class was embodied in the project. &nbsp;“You’re supposed to be engineering, coming up with new ideas, solving issues,” Jaramillo added.&nbsp;

Principal Bob Cotter, &nbsp;while speaking to BBC, said that Wilkins and his students faced the challenge to turn abstract concepts “into reality”. He added that the robotic hand of Sergio “is a testament to the students … who care about each other and the program that Jeff Wilkins has built”.

Sergio, speaking to CBS, said he had never expected such kindness and creativity from his classmates “in a million years”.

“I didn’t know them, so I actually got introduced to them by the teacher. And then that’s what I started working on, and I got to be friends with them. Living without a hand for 15 years and they actually offered me two is (something) actually pretty cool. No one has ever offered me this stuff – (it) changed my life," he added.&nbsp;

To some extent, examinations can be a headache for students, but giving a test twice can be irritating. A bizarre incident happened in the United States as more than 50 high school students in Texas might have to take the tests again after test papers were lost in transit as they apparently flew out of a UPS truck.&nbsp;

In the US, the SAT is a standardised test that is widely used for college admissions across the nation. But some of the Texas high school students are in a state of confusion as their test papers are either flown out of the truck which was transporting them. They were lost or destroyed.&nbsp;

US media outlets reported on Monday (November 7) that the incident related to El Paso Independent School District will impact the students of the school who took their SATs on October 27. The reports mentioned that the staff recovered all but 55 tests.&nbsp;

The school told CNN that they are working on determining a "remedy" for those students who are impacted by the incident. The school also added that it is currently working with the College Board to find a solution.&nbsp;

As quoted by media reports, the El Paso ISD officials stated: "El Paso ISD is working closely with the College Board to determine a remedy for the El Paso High School students whose SAT exams were lost in transit after they were securely submitted to UPS."&nbsp;

UPS apologised to the students and in a statement to CNN, it said that "our employees are working to recover as many tests as possible, and we will work with the school to resolve the situation."&nbsp;

"The driver's actions in this case are not representative of UPS protocols and methods, and we are addressing this with him. Safely meeting our service commitments is UPS's first priority," the statement added.&nbsp;

As per the school district, those students whose papers are lost will be able to take the ACT &nbsp;on December 10 at no cost. It is also a standardised test used for college admissions in the US.&nbsp;

Older teens who try electronic cigarettes have six times the odds of trying regular cigarettes within two years than those who never puffed on the devices, a study published on Monday found. 
 
&quot;We&#39;re concerned that kids who experiment with e-cigarettes may be moving on to other types of tobacco products, like combustible cigarettes, which are arguably a lot more dangerous,&quot; said University of Southern California researcher Jessica Barrington-Trimis, lead author of the study published in the journal Pediatrics. 
 
E-cigarettes are handheld electronic devices that vapourize a fluid typically including nicotine and a flavour component. Using them is called &quot;vaping.&quot; 
 
The researchers based their findings on surveys conducted by USC involving about 300 high school students in southern California. In 2014, about half of the students said they had at least tried an e-cigarette. 
 
In a 2015 follow-up survey, about 40 per cent of those who had tried an e-cigarette by the previous year had tried regular cigarettes. That compared to about 11 percent of those who said they had not tried an e-cigarette in the prior year&#39;s survey. 
 
After adjusting the statistics for gender, ethnicity, grade and parental education, the researchers calculated that the teens who tried the e-cigarettes had six times the odds of taking up smoking than those who never tried them. 
 
When the researchers looked at teens who said on the first survey that they had no intention to smoke, the risk of moving from e-cigarettes to regular cigarettes by the next year was 10 times greater than those who never vaped. 
 
Barrington-Trimis said the high risk among teens committed to not smoking &quot;suggests this is not just occurring among kids who intended to smoke anyway.&quot; 
 
The survey participants were 11th and 12th grade students who all were least 18 years old by the second survey. 
 
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommended in 2015 that the devices be regulated as tobacco products due to concerns they would lead teens to regular cigarettes and also expose their developing brains to nicotine. 
 
The US Food and Drug Administration last month took wide-ranging steps to crack down on e-cigarettes and banned sales to anyone under age 18. 
 
Dr. Michael Siegel, a professor at the Boston University School of Public Health and a proponent of e-cigarettes as a way to wean smokers off conventional cigarettes, said the study did not prove e-cigarette use had prompted the teens to take up regular cigarettes. 
 
Siegel, who was not involved in the study, said the first survey did not determine how many times the teens had vaped, asking only if they had used e-cigarettes at least once.
