Gianni Infantino has defended soaring ticket prices for the 2026 FIFA World Cup 2026, arguing that massive demand and U.S. resale market rules are driving costs higher.

The comments come amid growing backlash from football fans and supporter groups, who have labelled the pricing structure “extortionate.” Reports of resale tickets for the World Cup final reaching millions of dollars have intensified criticism of FIFA ahead of the tournament.

Infantino insists the prices reflect market demand; but many supporters fear ordinary fans are being priced out of football’s biggest event.
