<p>Former US president Donald Trump’s erstwhile lawyer Rudy Giuliani surrendered to authorities at an Atlanta jail on Wednesday (August 23) to face charges alleging he meddled in the state’s presidential polls in 2020.</p>

<p>"This indictment is a travesty," Giuliani told reporters after his jail appearance. "This is an assault on the Constitution."</p>

<p>Giuliani maintains he is innocent and says the only thing he is guilty of is that he put extra effort to advocate for his client.</p>

<p>“I never thought I’d ever get indicted for being a lawyer,” Giuliani said on his radio show last week.</p>

<p>Eight other of Trump's co-defendants in the criminal case brought by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis accusing him and his associates of trying to reverse his 2020 election loss in Georgia also have surrendered, according to county records.</p>

<p>All 19 co-defendants are anticipated to turn themselves in before the Friday deadline, as specified by Willis in her comprehensive indictment from the previous week, which detailed their attempts to overturn Trump's 2020 election defeat to Joe Biden.</p>
