In India, there's a similar candy named "Gems." The research team used computer simulations to model the shapes of planets in dense gas disks around young stars. They compared these models to observations and found that young planets took some unexpected shapes. "We have been studying planet formation for a long time, but never before had we thought to check the shape of the planets as they form in the simulations. We had always assumed that they were spherical," said team member Dimitris Stamatellos, an astrophysicist at UCLan. Astronomers have discovered over 5,000 exoplanets to date. However, they're still studying the sequence of events leading to their formation and early evolution. Some of these were more massive than our solar system. According to the standard planet formation theory, the growth happens gradually as dust particles stick together to form progressively larger and larger objects over long periods. This favoured model of planet formation is called "core accretion." However, planets can arise in shorter timescales when larger rotating protoplanetary disks around young stars split into pieces. This "disk instability" method appears to give more credibility to the less favoured theory. "This [disk instability] theory is appealing due to the fact that large planets can form very quickly at large distances from their host star, explaining some exoplanet observations," said UCLan's Adam Fenton. Why Do Exoplanets Take The Shape Of Oblate Spheroids? According to the team's model, newly forming planets are oblate spheroid-shaped because when any material falls onto them, it goes primarily to their poles. The research team concluded that the impression of young exoplanets from Earth might differ depending on how these planets are angled. An exoplanet might appear spherical if Earth is directed "face on." However, when seen "on edge," a young exoplanet would appear oblate. Observing young planets, usually surrounded by gas and dust clouds, has become feasible only recently due to advanced telescopes like the Atacama Large Millimeter Array (ALMA) and the Very Large Telescope (VLT). According to a report in the Ahmedabad Mirror, the rumour about the merchant accidentally dropping diamonds worth millions of rupees on the road spread like wildfire in the city. The incident occurred on September 24. Reports say that people also collected dust from the market road in search of the diamonds. The video also shows a person cleaning the area with a broom, hoping to find a diamond in the collected dust. Several pictures and videos of the people scouring for something missing went viral. One of the reasons behind the plunge in exports is the Enforcement Directorate (ED) raid, which occurred in March 2023 and caused the closure of four units of Sagar Diamonds. Indian government is keen to begin talks with the United Kingdom over repatriation of objects taken from the country during the colonial era beginning with “cooperation in manuscripts”, said a report in Politico citing an unnamed Indian government representative.

According to the representative, India's culture secretary Govind Mohan is focussed on the 'low-hanging fruits' first.

India has begun approaching countries that might have antiquities taken by force or looted during colonial times.

India is hoping for “a process of retrieval of antiquities through bilateral cooperation and partnership, in a manner consistent with existing international arrangements,” said the representative as quoted by Politico.

Whenever there is talk of looting of colonial-era artifacts and gems, the legendary Kohinoor diamond is almost always mentioned. The priceless gem, once the biggest diamond in the world, was given to Queen Victoria by East India Company after it annexed Punjab and is now among Britain's crown jewels.

During his coronation earlier this month, King Charles III eschewed it for other gems after India's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said it "brings back painful memories of&nbsp;the colonial past".

According to a report by Politico last week, India wants "a suitable dialogue" and "result-oriented conversation around the Kohinoor diamond and about return of other objects taken from temples".

This is not the first time a country would be in dialogue with Britain about colonial-era artifacts.

The British Museum is currently in talks with Greece for possible sharing of Parthenon marbles.

India and the UK are currently negotiating a trade deal. It is expected that UK PM Rishi Sunak would meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of G7 Summit. It is expected that both leaders will talk about the deal and other bilateral issues.&nbsp;

India has also placed the repatriation of antiquities on this agenda in G20. India holds presidency of G20 summit this year.

“India remains committed to work with international partners in building holistic and cooperative ties,” said the Indian government representative, “in which our shared history is an important pillar, but not the only one.”

The representative was quoted by the Politico.
