Khote made his debut in 1964 in a film called 'Ya Malak ' but is best known for his role in cult classic 'Sholay' where he played the role of 'Kalia'- a dacoit in Gabbar Singh's gang.<br />

Viju has also starred in films like 'Qurbani', 'Karz', 'Nagina', 'Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak' and '' 'Andaz Apna Apna among more. He has also worked in TV shows including 'Zabaan Sambhalke'.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
Besides having over 300 Hindi and Marathi films to his credit, Viju Khote was also active in Marathi theatre.<br />

Viju Khote is survived by elder sister and actor Shubha Khote.</p>

<p>The police detained Congress workers&nbsp;today who were protesting against the Goods and Services Tax(GST) in Surat for carrying out a rally without official permission.</p>

<p>The workers were dressed as characters from the Bollywood movie &quot;Sholay&quot;.</p>

<p>They were detained by police for carrying air guns and not taking &quot;necessary permission&quot;&nbsp;from the authorities.</p>
