In December, Bauder said he would bring a four-day event back to Ottawa on the first anniversary of the 2022 demonstration and that all the big rigs would make daily trips to Parliament Hill. However, after the authorities suggested that they would take a 'zero-tolerance' approach toward such a protest, Bauder said he would take the convoy to Winnipeg instead. In a Facebook post, Bauder, however, hinted at staging a comeback in 2024 after a year of 'solid' planning. "If the plan goes well, in Feb 2024. The protesters congregated in Vancouver to celebrate the country’s 155th birthday on Friday. Many of them clad in red and white and waving the maple leaf flag, flocked to the downtown waterfront near Canada Place.

Hundreds of convoy supporters and anti-government protesters gathered at Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s office wearing their “Truck Yeah” shirts. They waved their “F— Trudeau” flags and sold “Freedom Convoy 2022” merchandise to broadcast their dissent.

The whole procession was rocked with chaos, with disruptive truck horns blaring at all hours. Some businesses closed temporarily to protect staff from agitators who had latched on to the protest, according to local media reports.

The march decried Prime Minister Justin Trudeau while calling for the release of jailed “Freedom Convoy” protest leaders Pat King and Tamara Lich.

The first “clash” between authorities and “freedom” protesters occurred mid-afternoon when city officials tried to penalise the protesters who had set up a table on Wellington Street to sell freedom merchandise.

The “freedom convoy” supporters grew louder as the day progressed. They clashed with photographers who were trying to take their photos, chanted “freedom” and someone drew “wake up Canada” in chalk on the street, according to the Vancouver Sun newspaper.

“Canada has never been perfect, and it’s not perfect now,” Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said at Ottawa’s first in-person Canada Day since 2019.

Speaking to thousands from a festival stage at LeBreton Flats Park near Parliament Hill, the prime minister acknowledged the tension by focusing on the Canadian flag and&nbsp;its adoption by far-right groups&nbsp;as a symbol of anti-government rage.

“Let’s remember the values that it stands for: Compassion, hope and responsibility, justice, openness and hard work,” Trudeau said.

Canada Day sees chaos, noise by ‘Freedom Convoy’ protesters in Ottawa

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced on Wednesday that Canada will end the rarely used emergency measures used nine days ago to deal with weeks-long protests that shut some border crossings and paralysed Ottawa since late January.

"The situation is no longer an emergency. Therefore, the federal government will be ending the use of the Emergencies Act," he told a news conference.

"We are confident that existing laws and bylaws are now sufficient to keep people safe," he said.

Prime Minister Trudeau said Canada's governor-general will formally revoke the emergency measures in the coming hours.

Following Trudeau's announcement last week, the Emergencies Act was approved by the House of Commons on Monday, but not without opposition.

Invoking the powers was seen by the main opposition Conservative Party and some provincial leaders as overreaching.

The government said that the use of these powers would have a time limit. According to Trudeau, the powers were needed because the blockades threatened the economy and the public and because they helped coordinate the police forces.
