However, the Five Eyes had declared that China was in "clear breach of its international obligations under the legally binding, UN-registered Sino-British Joint Declaration."

"For the sake of Hong Kong's stability and prosperity, it is essential that China and the Hong Kong authorities respect the channels for the people of Hong Kong to express their legitimate concerns and opinions," the Five Eyes alliance said in a statement.

China had promised to rule <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/chinese-official-backs-hong-kong-judicial-reform-calls-343650">Hong Kong</a> under the "One Country, Two Systems" model, however, after last year's anti-government demonstrations and the imposition of national security law in June, Hong Kong citizens were placed under new stricter restrictions directly controlled by Beijing.

China's parliament body last week had issued a decree that local authorities could expel any politician who was being seen a national security threat without getting court orders.

There were also reports of arrests of lawmakers after the decree came into effect as police began prosecutions against opposition leaders for protests in the chamber.

The British government had decided to limit Huawei's 5G network in January, defying calls to ban the company over security concerns and America called for a ban to cut off valuable intelligence feeds with countries that use the Chinese firm's equipment.

According to officials, Johnson has been pressurised from the Washington and lawmakers in his party and now is eyeing to phase out the network by 2023.&nbsp;

During an interview recorded on May 18, GCHQ Director Jeremy Fleming said that he does not see Huawei as a threat to the "Five Eyes" security alliance which consists of UK, US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.&nbsp;

"Five Eyes isn't an organisation, it's a partnership, it's an alliance. It is, of course, the case that whilst we share basic principles ...there are areas where, from time to time, our approaches differ," he said.

"Those are not fundamentally undermining the alliance. Indeed, I think it's the power of the alliance that, where we do differ, we can both understand why we're making those decisions, but also make sure that we continue to cooperate across the broader piece."

China and the United Kingdom's relations have been strained after their stand on Hong Kong and the coronavirus pandemic.&nbsp;

"We see China as an intelligence adversary, we see them as an economic partner, we work with them in some areas, we compete with them in others," said Fleming.

"And in still others, we call out their behaviours when we don't think they align with what we expect to see or with our values," he added.

The United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, will meet in the Canadian city of Ottawa next week, where they will discuss tactics to combat terrorism and border protection, two senior Australian ministers said.

Australia has made it clear it wants tech companies to do much more to give intelligence and law enforcement agencies access to encrypted communications.

&ldquo;I will raise the need to address ongoing challenges posed by terrorists and criminals using encryption,&rdquo; Australian Attorney-General Senator Brandis said in a joint statement. &ldquo;These discussions will focus on the need to cooperate with service providers to ensure reasonable assistance is provided to law enforcement and security agencies.&rdquo;

Tech firms such as Apple and Facebook, which owns encrypted messaging service Whatsapp, have been criticised in the United Kingdom and the United States for not doing enough to crack down on so-called dark spaces where extremists can communicate.

Industry involvement in thwarting the encryption of terrorist messaging will be a priority for Australia at the gathering, Senator Brandis said.
