Iran’s judiciary has upheld a one-year prison sentence against acclaimed filmmaker Jafar Panahi, rejecting his appeal and confirming a verdict linked to allegations of propaganda against the state. The decision marks another chapter in the long-standing legal battle faced by the award-winning director, whose films have frequently drawn international attention and criticism of Iranian authorities.

Russia has designated Pavel Talankin, a teacher and co-director of the Oscar-winning documentary "Mr. Nobody Against Putin," as a "foreign agent" following his exposure of pro-war propaganda in Russian schools. Talankin secretly filmed inside a Chelyabinsk school for two years before fleeing in 2024. The film recently won the 2026 Oscar for Best Documentary.
