India Captain Harmanpreet Singh scored twice (20', 30') while Vivek Sagar Prasad (2'), Amit Rohidas (29') and Dilpreet Singh (60') scored a goal each that helped the team avenge the 1-2 loss in their previous match against Belgium last week.

Though they could not convert this opportunity, the PC battery made no mistake in the 20th minute when&nbsp; Harmanpreet picked up a good injection by Abhishek and used a long powerful dragflick to find the bottom corner of the post. It was goals by Timothy Nurse (7'), Thomas Sorsby (32), Lee Morton (34') and Nicholas Bandurak (54') that saw the home team through while India Captain Harmanpreet Singh (14', 43') scored a double to become the all-time best goal scorer in the FIH Pro League with 35 goals. Backed by a boisterous home crowd, Great Britain got off to a roaring start with a lethal attack trying to push India on the backfoot right from the word go. Though India warded off an early shot on goal, a lapse in defence allowed newcomer Timothy Nurse to score a fine goal. Nurse did well to pick up a good assist and score his first international goal, driving into the left flank and putting the ball past India's Krishan Pathak.

Though Great Britain's 7th-minute goal put India under the pump, the visitors made an aggressive comeback when Mandeep Singh earned a penalty corner. In good nick, with 11 goals so far in the League, Harmanpreet used a powerful drag-flick to find the corner of the post beating GB's goalie James Mazarelo with ease. The 14th-minute goal put India in good stead for the next quarter as they tested the hosts' defence, finding ways to create PCs. Though they created three good PC opportunities, they could not convert the chances.

Adding to the team's woes, a good referral by GB in the 28th minute denied India a lead as it was ruled that the goal came off the back stick.

But it did not take long for the home team to gain a comfortable lead in the match. Returning from the half-time break with the score at a 1-1 stalemate, GB changed gears as they produced some insatiable attacks to score back-to-back goals. It was Thomas Sorsby who scored in the 32nd minute through a PC followed by a field goal in the 34th minute by Lee Mortan, putting GB ahead by 3-1.

With under 2 minutes to go for the third hooter, India was awarded a flurry of PCs. Not letting this golden opportunity go wasted, Harmanpreet executed a perfect flick to earn India a much-needed breakthrough to narrow down the lead to 2-3. This was not only Harmanpreet's second goal of the match, but with this goal, he also became the all-time best goal scorer in Pro League with 35 goals and also retained the top spot as the leading goal scorer in this edition of the League with 13 goals.

As the contest went into the last quarter, the two teams lived up to the billing, producing some nervy moments. Only 90 seconds into the quarter, GB won a PC but experienced Sreejesh was undeterred in his effort to pad the ball away.

Expressing his thoughts about today's match, India Captain Harmanpreet Singh said as quoted by a Hockey India press release, "We played better than yesterday, we had better control in our structure. I think there is room for us to improve in our defence. They scored two goals from the baseline, that is something we must watch out for and get better at defending."

Speaking of his own achievement as the all-time best goal scorer of the League, he said, "I am able to score because my team is able to create penalty corners, so this is a collective effort."

The Indian Men's Hockey Team lost to Belgium 1-2 in a hard-fought encounter in the FIH Hockey Pro League 2022-23, Europe leg which commenced today at the Lee Valley Stadium in London. Seasoned striker Mandeep Singh scored India's lone goal while Thibeau Stockbroekx (18') and Nelson Onana (60+) scored a goal each in Belgium's victory.

Kicking off the overseas campaign, India produced a confident start in the first quarter, creating early opportunities. Vice Captain Hardik Singh played a key role in India's attack, fetching an early shot on goal from the top of the D and shaking off the nervousness of playing against the World Cup runners up and reigning Olympic Champions. However, Belgium's goalie Loic Van Doren was impressive in the goal post, whisking away India's hopes of early goal.

The next few minutes of the first quarter saw Belgium drop the pace of the game, cautiously rotated the ball and controlled the play. With 20 seconds left for the first hooter, Belgium who had kept the ball possession for the most part, saw Victor Wegnez create a PC. FIH Hockey Pro League: Belgium down India 2-1 in curtain-raiser

Hockey India on Monday named a strong 24-member Indian Men's Hockey Team for the next leg of the FIH Hockey Pro League in Europe starting May 26. In their previous outing in the prestigious League matches at home, India remained unbeaten against reigning World Champions Germany and Australia which helped them top the points table. In Europe, they will hope to continue their winning momentum as they take on the formidable Belgium and Great Britain in London followed by matches against the Netherlands and Argentina in Eindhoven, the Netherlands.

This will be the team's first outing under newly-appointed Chief Coach Craig Fulton while the team will continue to be led by ace dragflicker and defender Harmanpreet Singh and Vice Captained by the prolific midfielder Hardik Singh. The team features goalkeepers Krishan Bahadur Pathak. He returns to the squad after missing the home matches due to his wedding. He will be joined by PR Sreejesh in the goalpost while defenders list includes five penalty corner specialists in Harmanpreet Singh, Amit Rohidas, Jarmanpreet Singh, Sanjay and Mandeep Mor.

Manpreet Singh who was the cynosure of India's midfield will be seen in a new role, playing in India's backline along with Sumit and Gurinder Singh have also been named in the backline.

The midfield will be led by Vice Captain Hardik Singh along with Dilpreet Singh, Moirangthem Rabichandra Singh, Shamsher Singh, Akashdeep Singh and Vivek Sagar Prasad. India's forward line sees the return of Simranjeet Singh who last played for India at the Asia Cup Jakarta but had to return home midway due to injury issues. He will be joined by a good mix of experienced and young set of strikers like Abhishek, Lalit Kumar Upadhyay, S Karthi, Gurjant Singh, Sukhjeet Singh, Raj Kumar Pal and Mandeep Singh.

Speaking about the team selection, Chief Coach Craig Fulton said, "I am pleased with the team we have selected for the upcoming Pro League tournament against Belgium, Holland, Great Britain and Argentina. Our current world ranking of 4th reflects the team's hard work and dedication post the World Cup. This tournament will be a great opportunity for us to compete against top-ranked teams and further improve our overall game. Hockey India on Monday named a strong 24-member Indian Men's Hockey Team for the next leg of the FIH Hockey Pro League in Europe starting May 26. In their previous outing in the prestigious League matches at home, India remained unbeaten against reigning World Champions Germany and Australia which helped them top the points table.

In Europe, they will hope to continue their winning momentum as they take on the formidable Belgium and Great Britain in London followed by matches against the Netherlands and Argentina in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. This will be the team's first outing under newly-appointed Chief Coach Craig Fulton while the team will continue to be led by ace dragflicker and defender Harmanpreet Singh and Vice Captained by the prolific midfielder Hardik Singh. The team features goalkeepers Krishan Bahadur Pathak. He returns to the squad after missing the home matches due to his wedding. He will be joined by PR Sreejesh in the goalpost while defenders list includes five penalty corner specialists in Harmanpreet Singh, Amit Rohidas, Jarmanpreet Singh, Sanjay and Mandeep Mor. Manpreet Singh who was the cynosure of India's midfield will be seen in a new role, playing in India's backline along with Sumit and Gurinder Singh have also been named in the backline. This win saw the hosts claim the FIH Hockey Pro League title while India ended their campaign with a third-place finish. Abhishek (1`) was the lone goal scorer for India while Jip Janssen (7`) and Jorrit Croon (45`) scored for the hosts. India had gotten off to a rollicking start with a goal in the opening minute of the match through Abhishek who made a brave foray into the striking circle and took a valiant shot on goal. Although the early 1-0 lead by India put the Dutch side on the back foot, they did not do anything out of the order under pressure but instead built on their attack which helped them win PCs. Earlier in the game, the Netherlands backed by a boisterous home crowd got off to a flying start creating two excellent shots on goal within two minutes of the start of the match. But luckily for India, both shots were off target.

Around the 5th minute, India launched an ambitious attack through Hardik Singh who cut into the circle from the top, attempting to take a shot on goal but the Dutch goalie Pirmin Blaak cleared the ball. It was, however, the Netherlands who fetched the first goal of the match when Derck de Vilder beat Indian defender Varun Kumar to find Tijmen Reyenga.

With no defender near him, Reyenga (10`) took his time to take a successful shot past experienced India custodian Sreejesh to take a 1-0 lead. Only seconds later, India fought back with Mandeep Singh creating a fine opportunity with a tactically earned PC.

While Harmanpreet Singh`s first shot was blocked, and a retake was awarded, a goal by Mandeep Singh off a rebound from the drag-flick in the second attempt was disallowed by the umpire on account of dangerous play. It continued to be an action-packed first quarter with India building on the intensity in their attack.

India will host New Zealand and Spain in the tournament opener between October 28 and November 6 later this year.

The season, which will run from October 28, 2022, to July 5, 2023, will be divided into a series of date blocks, agreed by all parties, to assist with international and domestic competition planning, within which "mini-tournaments" will be played where several teams will gather in one venue to play two matches against each other.

This move will have a major positive impact on players'&nbsp;welfare and the environment, thanks to a substantial reduction in the amount of travel needed for each team and the officials.

Another great advantage of this revised format is that it increases the number of dates available for athletes to compete in their domestic leagues and club competitions.

The Indian team will play New Zealand in the first match on October 28, followed by the second match against Spain on October 30.

They will play their return leg matches against New Zealand and Spain on November 4 and 6, respectively.

Both the visitors New Zealand and Spain will also play a doubleheader against each other on October 29 and November 5.

Sharing his thoughts on the FIH Pro League 2022/23 schedule, the Indian Men's Hockey Chief Coach Graham Reid stated, "Interesting to see the 22-23 Pro League schedule released today. As far as our draw is concerned, it is well spaced out and provides us with practice opportunity before the 2023 World Cup."

In March 2023, India will play Germany and Australia at home. They will face off against Germany on March 10 and after a day's break they will take on Australia in their first match of the two-legged tie.

The second-leg matches against both Germany and Australia will be played on March 13 and 15 respectively. Germany and Australia too will play their FIH Pro League tie against each other in India.

In what appears to be an action-paced Olympic cycle, India will tour to Europe in May and June 2023 for their away matches against the teams like reigning Olympic Champions Belgium (May 26 and June 2), Great Britain (May 27 and June 3), Netherlands (June 7 and 10) and Argentina (June 8 and 11).

Reid opined that it's good development of utilising multiple teams in one location."FIH is using the experience of utilising multiple teams in one location from this year, to provide more of a traditional tournament feel.

India to host New Zealand, Spain in opening ties of FIH Hockey Pro League 2022-23

Mandeep Singh scored a goal in the dying moments of the match as India edged past 4-3 against 2016 Olympic champions Argentina here at the Kalinga Hockey Stadium.

Hardik Singh scored a goal too while Jugraj Singh scored a brace for India to avenge the previous match defeat against Argentina in the shootout.

Just like the previous match, where India lost 1-3 in a shootout after a 2-2 draw, this match's first quarter too ended without a goal being scored from both sides.

The Indian team started the second quarter on a positive note as Mandeep Singh earned a penalty corner for India where Hardik Singh scored for the team on the rebound after Harmanpreet's drag-flick was blocked to give his side a 1-0 lead.

Three minutes later India earned another penalty corner which was converted by drag-flicker Jugraj Singh who scored his fourth international goal to put hosts 2-0 ahead in the match.

After trailing 0-2 Argentina did try hard to get to the scoring sheet and also earned two penalties but failed to convert as Indian goalkeeper Krishan Pathak managed to save it and the Tokyo Olympic bronze medallist went to half-time with a 2-0 lead.

After half-time, the visitors kept on trying for a goal and they earned a penalty corner in the 40th minute of the match which was converted by Nicolas della Torre as Argentina pulled one goal back going into the final quarter.

In the final quarter, Surender Kumar`s tackle from the back helped Argentina earn a penalty stroke where the visitors scored to make it 2-2.

In the very next minute, Lalit Kumar Upadhyay helped India earn another penalty corner where Jugraj Singh scored his second goal of the match to put his side 3-2 ahead with only eight minutes remaining in the match.

The Argentines were not willing to give up without a fight and they earned a penalty immediately but goalkeeper Krishan Pathak once again came to India's rescue.

In the 53rd minute, India got yet another penalty which Jugraj Singh converted to make it his hat-trick of the match but his happiness was shortlived as Argentina reviewed the decision and the goal was turned down after a review suggested that India collected the ball inside the circle.

In the 56th minute of the match, Argentina got the equaliser to make it 3-3 as Martin Ferreiro scored for them. Just like the previous match, it seemed as even this match will go to a shootout.

With only 26 seconds remaining a superb pass into the circle from Jugraj Singh helped Mandeep Singh get a brilliant touch with his back to goal to deflect it in.

FIH Hockey Pro League: Mandeep Singh's late strike helps India edge past Argentina 4-3

After starting off their FIH Hockey Pro League 2021/22 campaign with a sensational 7-1 win over China, India continued their winning run in the tournament, defeating China 2-1 in a thrilling contest here at the Sultan Qaboos Complex in Muscat, Oman on Tuesday.

The Savita-led Indian side`s victory was sealed by two goals from drag-flicker Gurjit Kaur (3`, 49`), while Shumin Wang (39`) scored the sole goal for China. With the win, India climbed to the top of the points table, tied alongside The Netherlands with 6 points in two games.

India started the match on the front foot, moving quickly from back to front, bypassing China`s midfield. India managed to get an early PC in the third minute of the match which was converted by Gurjit with a low, powerful hit to give her team a 1-0 lead.

China immediately started a counter-attack, but Sushila Chanu defended well in her own circle to deny the opposition. India continued to press high in China`s half, and Vandana Katariya received a golden opportunity to score, but her shot from inside the circle went wide off the goalpost.

India kept possession for most of the first quarter, not allowing China to get any move going, and maintained their 1-0 lead in the first 15 minutes.

At the start of the 2nd quarter, China pressed high in India`s circle, but Nikki Pradhan defended well to clear the danger. In the 18th minute, Navneet Kaur tried to find Vandana Katariya inside the circle from the right flanks, but her cross went wide and India could not extend their lead.

A move from the left flank in the 26th minute saw Ishika Chaudhary trying to cross the ball to Monika who was standing in front of the goalpost. But China defended well to clear the danger once again. India faced some nervy moments in the final minute of the 2nd quarter with three China players entering the circle, but the Indian defence stood tall and maintained their 1-0 lead at Half Time.

India started the second half aggressively with Sharmila Devi getting a chance to increase the lead in the first minute of the third quarter. But her reverse hit went wide, and once again India were unable to convert the opportunity.

China started counter-attacking display, as they started moving deeper inside India`s half. A dangerous move from China from the left flank caught Indian defence off-guard as Wang Shumin struck the ball inside the empty nets to get the equaliser in the 39th minute.

A challenge on Monika inside the circle, two minutes later, earned India a Penalty Corner. But the drag-flick from Gurjit Kaur was saved by China goalkeeper.

India received another Penalty Corner a minute later. But it reaped no rewards as well, and the scoreline remained India 1-1 China by the end of third quarter. India showcased their attacking intent immediately at the start of the fourth quarter, earning a penalty corner straightaway in the 47th minute.

But Deep Grace Ekka`s dragflick went wide off the goalpost. In the 49th minute, India received their second penalty corner of the fourth quarter, and this time, Gurjit Kaur converted with another fantastic drag-flick, giving India a 2-0 lead.

China started working hard to try and find the equaliser but India kept their calm and ensured no further slip-ups. With five minutes left on the clock, India received two back-to-back penalty corners, but Deep Grace Ekka was unable to convert them into goals. India slowed down the game in the final couple of minutes, as China tried to get the ball back to get the equaliser.
