Francis will thank hundreds of World Youth Day volunteers at a stadium in the afternoon before a farewell ceremony and a flight back to Rome.

The pope acknowledged Saturday that the Church was "wounded by sin" in a homily addressed to priests and seminarians reeling from sexual abuse scandals and coverups.

Celebrating mass at the landmark Cathedral of Santa Maria La Antigua in Panama City, Francis warned of the "weariness of hope that comes from seeing a Church wounded by sin, which has so often failed to hear all those cries."

Later, at a massive vigil that the organizers said drew 600,000 pilgrims, the pope called on young people to reject the temptation to live their lives online and urged them to get involved in their communities.

Life was not "in the cloud, waiting to be downloaded, a new app to be discovered, or a technique of mental self-improvement," the pontiff said during his grandfatherly discourse.

Former England captain Wayne Rooney hopes the country will embrace a culture of honouring its players in the near-future as he shrugged off criticism on Tuesday of his farewell international appearance against the United States.

The 33-year-old striker will earn his 120th and final England cap at Wembley on Thursday, two years after his last appearance, but his return to the international fold has not been without its critics.

England's record-appearance-maker Peter Shilton said caps should not be "given out like gifts", while former Blackburn Rovers and Celtic striker Chris Sutton believes Rooney's inclusion "devalued the international cap".

Rooney, however, told a news conference on Tuesday that the Football Association had decided it was right to honour his England career in this way having spoken to the current players.

"We haven't done anything like this before but I hope in 10 or 15 years' time we are sat here for someone like Harry Kane who could go on and get the goalscoring record," Rooney said.

"It's nice to be back here, turning up and meeting players again. It was nice to see them and the staff, and the reception they gave me was fantastic. Overall it's great to be back."

Rooney, England's all-time record goalscorer, is expected to make an appearance as a substitute in the friendly against the US&nbsp;-- a match arranged to raise funds for the Rooney Foundation, which aims to improve the lives of disadvantaged children.

Rooney's return has already made an impact at the Wembley ticket office, with more than 20,000 tickets sold since his appearance was confirmed earlier this month.

"It's something different. I'm not asking people to agree with it, but it is important that there is money raised for the Wayne Rooney Foundation," he added.

England manager Gareth Southgate said last week he was yet to decide when in the second half Rooney will come on, but added it would be before fans start "heading for the tube".

Rooney savours England comeback despite criticism

Friends, family and colleagues of British scientist Stephen Hawking will gather Saturday to pay their respects at his private funeral in Cambridge, where he spent most of his extraordinary life.

Hawking, who died on March 14 at the age of 76, was famously an atheist but his children Lucy, Robert and Tim have chosen the town's university church, St Mary the Great, to say their farewell.

"Our father's life and work meant many things to many people, both religious and non-religious. So, the service will be both inclusive and traditional, reflecting the breadth and diversity of his life," they have said.

Tributes poured in from around the world upon Hawking's death, from Queen Elizabeth II to NASA, reflecting his huge impact as a physicist and an inspiration, in his refusal to give up in the face of physical disability.

But the service at St Mary church -- a short distance from Gonville and Caius College where Hawking worked for more than 50 years -- will only be open to those who knew him, followed by a private reception at Trinity College.

A wider audience will attend a thanksgiving service at Westminster Abbey in London on June 15, where Hawking's remains will be buried near the grave of another legendary scientist, Isaac Newton.

Ahead of the funeral, Gonville and Caius College released new black and white photographs of Hawking taken in 1961 at a summer school for young astrophysicists at a castle in Sussex, southern England, when he was 19.

They showed him playing croquet and in a sailing dinghy, two years before he began experiencing the first symptoms of the motor neurone disease that would later leave him almost completely paralysed.

Fellow students contacted by the college recalled his left-wing views and his mischievous sense of humour, with one describing how he replaced the Royal Navy flag on the castle flagpole with the Communist hammer and sickle.

Hawking defied predictions that he would only live for a few years, although his rare condition -- amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) -- gradually robbed him of mobility.

He was confined to a wheelchair, almost completely paralysed and unable to speak except through his trademark voice synthesiser.

But the illness did nothing to dull his mind, and Hawking became one of the world's best-known and most inspiring scientists, known for his brilliance and his wit.

His work focused on bringing together relativity -- the nature of space and time -- and quantum theory -- how the smallest particles behave -- to explain the creation of the Universe and how it is governed.

But he was also a global star -- his 1988 book "A Brief History of Time" was an unlikely worldwide bestseller, and he appeared as himself in TV shows from "The Simpsons" to "Star Trek: The Next Generation".

Talking about the years when he was not picked for the team, Nehra said, &quot;I never asked questions to team management and selectors. They didn&#39;t pick me, it was entirely their call. You can&#39;t blame someone for not picking you. But if you are good, your chance will come, but you have to be ready for it. I was ready for it. Now, I am playing for last two years, doing well and getting this kind of farewell. So maybe this is God&#39;s payback for my hard work.&quot;

Nehra said that he grabbed his chance with both the hands.

&quot;There were difficult times in between. For good six months in 2007, I didn&#39;t bowl a single ball even in the nets. I had ankle surgery and ten-eleven surgeries. It wasn&#39;t easy, but then I am a very content guy. I always see the positive things,&quot; he added.

The 38-year-old also said that India is more of a star-loving country than a sport-loving one.

&quot;I want to see people coming for Ranji trophies,&quot; Nehra said.

Asked about the captain under whom he played enjoying most, Nehra said, &quot;I never like to compare. I have played under Saurav Ganguly, M S Dhoni, Virat Kohli. Everybody is different, it is difficult to compare.&quot;

Talking about his future plans after retirement, the fast bowler said, &quot;I know only cricket. I haven&#39;t decided what I will do next. I will sit and relax and think.&quot;

The left-arm fast bowler made his international debut way back in 1999 against Sri Lanka in Colombo.

He was also a part of the young Indian brigade that played the 2003 World Cup.

A late goal by Premier League target Radja Nainggolan earned Belgium a last-16 berth with a 1-0 win over Sweden ending superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic&#39;s international career with a defeat. 
 
The Roma midfielder, reportedly wanted by Chelsea, controlled a cross from Eden Hazard outside the area and powered it into the net in the 82nd minute. 
 
After a poor display against Italy in their group opener, Belgium now take on Hungary in Toulouse on June 26 with the momentum of two wins behind them.
