The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Friday notified its assessment scheme for the pending class 10 and 12 examinations, which have been cancelled in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.

As per the scheme, results of class 10 and 12 students, who have completed all their exams, will be declared based on their performances in the exams.

"For students who have appeared in the examinations in more than three subjects, the average of the marks obtained in the best three performing subjects will be awarded in the subjects whose examinations have not been conducted," CBSE Exam Controller Sanyam Bhardwaj explained.

"For students who have appeared in the examinations in only three subjects, the average of the marks obtained in the best two performing subjects will be awarded in the subjects whose examinations have not been conducted," he added.

Taking note of cancellation of a few exams in northeast Delhi in view of the communal violence in the area during the anti-Citizenship (Amendment) Act protests in February, the board has decided to take into account internal exams to assess performances.

"There are very few students of class 12, mainly from Delhi, who have appeared in the examinations in only one or two subjects. Their results will be declared based on performances in the appeared subjects and performance in internal, practical or project assessment," Bhardwaj said.

The board will conduct exams for class 12 at a later stage when the situation is conducive and students who are unhappy with their score will have an option to appear for them.

However, the students who opt to sit for those exams, their performances in the exams will be treated as the final score.

Class 10 students will not get a chance to appear for improvement exams and their score as declared by the board will be treated final.

The four-point assessment scheme has been devised following cancellation of the pending exams, which were scheduled from July 1 to 15.

"Results based upon the assessment scheme will be declared by July 15 so candidates can apply and seek admissions in higher educational institutions in India or abroad," Bhardwaj said.

It was also stated that there were over 12,000 examination centers for Class 10, thus indicating the manpower required amid the prevailing scenario where Tamil Nadu has seen 31,667 total COVID-19 cases of which 14,396 are active, while the state has been seeing a daily increase of over 1,000 cases for the last one week.

The Additional Advocate General responded saying that there appeared to be a meeting between the Chief Minister and School Education Minister regarding the same.&nbsp;

The bench also lashed out at the State Government, saying that conducting class 10 exams were unlike re-opening of TASMAC (state-run liquor outlets) during the lockdown. “Can the state government give an undertaking that no student will get infected by COVID-19 if it is allowed to conduct the 10th grade board exams from June 15th” the bench questioned.&nbsp;

Stating that it is well and good if the Tamil Nadu&nbsp;Government itself postpones the exams without letting the Damocles Sword hang over students heads till the eleventh hour.&nbsp;

Normally, students with special needs are allowed to avail the facility of scribe for class 10 and 12 exams conducted by&nbsp;Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). However, this year, due to the pandemic, CBSE has announced change in plans.

While majority of the exams were finished before the lockdown, few subject exams were still pending sue tot the nationwide lockdown that was initiated in March by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to contain the spread of coronavirus.

Recently, CBSE had announced resumption of the pending exams between July 1 to July 15.

"In case children with special needs availing the facility of scribe do not wish to appear in the forthcoming examination because of noncompliance of social distancing norms, the students can inform their respective schools and their result will be declared as per the assessment scheme to be decided by the board," a senior board official said.

The board grants several exemptions to children with special needs in accordance with the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Ac, 2016.

"In addition to extra time, scribe or reader, computer or laptop (without internet), from this year we had also allowed use of basic calculators for candidates registered under CWSN category," the official added.

The CBSE has also decided that no pending exams will be conducted in foreign countries.

The AMU students were, however, reportedly not in favour of removing Jinnah’s portrait saying its part of the university’s history as he was given a life membership of the university’s union.

Soon after the letter was sent, members of right-wing organisation Hindu Yuva Vahini (HYV), barged into the varsity, shouting slogans against the hanging of Jinnah’s portrait and briefly clashed with Aligarh Muslim University students. &nbsp;

The clashes injured 41 people, including 28 students and 13 policemen.&nbsp;

The HYV, which is founded by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, held the protest moments before former vice-president Hamid Ansari was to visit the university to attend an event.

Internet services were suspended on Friday following unrest in the university campus.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, protests reached Delhi and students were seen protesting outside Uttar Pradesh Bhawan in the national capital in support of the AMU students.&nbsp;
