New study in Regional Environmental Change warns human activity at Everest Base Camp is accelerating Khumbu Glacier melt. In Spring 2023, 1,600 tents & 2,127 people over 50 days burned 824 LPG cylinders, 18,935L kerosene & 5,130L petrol - producing 849,174 megajoules heat, enough to melt 2,492 tonnes ice (1 Olympic pool).
