The trophy presentation was also a moment to treasure for Olympiakos manager Jose Luis Mendilibar, who won the Europa League with Sevilla last season and took over the Greek club only in February. "I am very happy that we achieved something that the club had not achieved before. We will celebrate, we will cheer and then we will get back to work for what comes next," Mendilibar said.

The Greek fans in the AEK Arena erupted when the ball went in and the volume went up once again when VAR confirmed the goal which ensures Olympiakos play in the Europa League next season. Outside the stadium, thousands of Olympiakos fans gathered at the port of Piraeus and celebrated wildly after the final whistle, lighting red flares and fireworks.

Olympiakos became the first Greek club to lift a European trophy, with Panathinaikos coming closest in 1971 when they lost the European Cup final to Ajax Amsterdam.

The result marked a second consecutive defeat in the Europa Conference League final for Fiorentina, who had reached this season's summit clash without losing a single game. Jarrod Bowen's dramatic 90th-minute goal secured West Ham their first major European trophy since 1965 with a 2-1 win over Fiorentina in the Europa Conference League final on Wednesday.

It is the second European trophy for West Ham after they won the now defunct Cup Winners' Cup 58 years ago with a team including England World Cup heroes Bobby Moore and Geoff Hurst.

Bowen picked up a superb through ball from Lucas Paqueta, before sending a low shot past a helpless Pietro Terracciano in the Fiorentina goal.

"I obviously dreamed of scoring but to score the winner in the last minute. It's what you always say you want to do," Bowen told BT Sport.

"To do it in front of these fans. I thought I was going to cry. I'm just happy."

Said Benrahma had opened the scoring for West Ham in Prague as he blasted a penalty past Terracciano on 62 minutes after VAR had caught Cristiano Biraghi handling the ball trying to stop Bowen in the box.

Giacomo Bonaventura levelled five minutes later, beating West Ham goalkeeper Alphonse Areola with a fine, low right-footed effort. 
 
Bonaventura capitalised on a superb header back from Nicolas Gonzalez who had leapt over West Ham full-back Emerson.

The champions' name will be the second ever on the Conference League trophy following Roma, who won the maiden edition of the competition last year.

West Ham have also clinched a spot in next season's Europa League with the win, while Fiorentina will miss out on European competition after finishing eighth in the Serie A.

West Ham's previous major trophy was back in 1980 when they won the FA Cup.

They spent most of the last season battling the prospect of relegation, finishing 14th in the Premier League in the end.

<h2>'Over the moon'</h2>

"We had a dream, we haven't had the best season, myself included, but to give these fans this moment, I'm over the moon," Bowen said.

"This is the biggest game of my career. The emotion, there was time for one more chance. I'm just so happy."

The game got off to a slow start, although Michail Antonio tested Terracciano with a low shot on 40 seconds.

Fiorentina dominated possession and looked more organised in a largely uneventful first half.

But they did not came close until injury time when Christian Kouame headed against the post from Gonzalez's cross.

Fiorentina striker Luka Jovic then tapped the ball across the line on a rebound but his goal was ruled out for offside.

Declan Rice's 13th-minute shot from outside the box whizzed just past the post in the Hammers' best chance of the first half.

Rice may have played his last game for the East Londoners as he is being courted by the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United.

The game changed with the goals as both sides suddenly looked far more lively, earning corners and creating chances.

But Rolando Mandragora sent his shot just wide and Sofyan Amrabat was denied by Areola, while Tomas Soucek's header was saved by a diving Terracciano.

Before the game, Prague police said they had detained 16 people as Fiorentina fans attacked West Ham supporters in a bar in central Prague. Three people sustained light injuries.

West Ham beat Fiorentina to win Europa Conference League

West Ham will face Fiorentina in their first European final for 47 years after Thursday's 1-0 victory at AZ Alkmaar clinched a 3-1 aggregate success in the Europa Conference League semi-finals. Pablo Fornals scored West Ham's winner in the final moments of the tense second leg to set up a clash with Fiorentina in the final in Prague on June 7. The Hammers last reached a major European final in 1976 when they were beaten by Anderlecht in the Cup Winners Cup.

In the other semi-final second leg, Antonin Barak's last-gasp goal sealed Fiorentina's dramatic 3-1 win at FC Basel. The Serie A club are the first team to reach the final of four different major European competitions. Vincenzo Italiano's side trailed 2-1 after the semi-final first leg, but they turned the tie around in Switzerland. Nicolas Gonzalez's double and Barak's goal in the final seconds of stoppage-time in extra-time clinched a 4-3 aggregate triumph.

West Ham have not won a major trophy since Trevor Brooking's goal beat Arsenal in the 1980 FA Cup final. They lost the 'Steven Gerrard' FA Cup final on penalties after a 3-3 draw against Liverpool in 2006.

"We're absolutely thrilled. It's a big achievement for the club, but now it's about going and winning it. AZ are very good at what they do, but I'm delighted we did it," West Ham boss David Moyes said. "We've brought in a lot of international players to get better, but we've really struggled this season. We had to go back to what gets you wins, and thankfully we did that."

Last season, West Ham lost 3-1 on aggregate to eventual winners Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League semi-finals. Moyes' side have made amends for that painful near-miss by reaching the final of a competition much-maligned in some quarters, but never again in east London. West Ham have won 13 of their 14 games in the competition this season and will be favourites whoever they play in the final.

"We have created history. It's the first time in 47 years. It's pure emotion and happiness to get it done," West Ham midfielder Declan Rice said.

Moyes has led West Ham to top 10 finishes in the Premier League in the past two seasons, but they have struggled for much of the current campaign.&nbsp; They are 15th in the table with two games left, all but mathematically safe from relegation.

Winning a European trophy would be an unexpectedly uplifting end to their troubled season.

"Was I worried? Yeah, my family were there and I had friends in that section. You're hoping they would try and get themselves away from it.

"I didn't recognise it because I'd gone onto the pitch. Security wanted to take me inside, but I had to make sure my players weren't involved.

"What we don't want to do is in any way blight the night because it certainly wasn't West Ham supporters looking for trouble. Hopefully they'll look into it."

There was viral videos of the incidents on social media, with images also shared of clashes between rival fans earlier in the day on the streets of Alkmaar.

During last week's first leg at the London Stadium, won 2-1 by West Ham, members of AZ players' families were involved in a confrontation with fans of the east London club.

"When families or friends are coming to the stadium we don't want to see things like that," Hammers goalkeeper Alphonse Areola said.

"They want to enjoy the event and we want to enjoy it with them as well. We were worried about them."

UEFA, European football's governing body is expected to launch an investigation into the trouble, with Dutch police saying there have been no arrests yet.

"So far, no arrests have been made. Our aim was to disperse the crowd and restore order as quickly as possible, in which we succeeded. The police will investigate footage of the incidents and try to identify supporters. Arrests may follow from this," local police statement said.

"Together with AZ, the municipality of Alkmaar and the public prosecution service we will evaluate last night's incidents, which we regret having happened. This kind of behaviour has no place in football."

UEFA will wait for the relevant reports before deciding on any action, but AZ could face heavy sanctions.

AZ boss Pascal Jansen added: "What happened last week was very unfortunate and then you get the same feeling as what happened tonight.

"I feel a little bit ashamed it happened in our stadium but you have to control your emotions."
