Meteorologists said on Friday (June 16) that the remnant of Cyclone Biparjoy is expected to bring rain over parts of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh starting Sunday, this will help the monsoon advance over east India currently in the grip of a severe heat wave.&nbsp;

In India, the progress of the monsoon remained slow since May 11 in the absence of any weather system over the Bay of Bengal. Meteorologists also said that Cyclone Biparjoy impacted the southwest monsoon current.&nbsp;

Experts have said that Biparjoy's remnant is likely to move north-eastwards and bring rainfall in central and east Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. India-based news agency PTI reported that IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra was asked if the system can help the monsoon advance over east India.&nbsp;

He replied, "It may happen... We are monitoring the situation. There could be some other parameters too, such as an increase in cross-equatorial flow over the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal. That can also help advance the monsoon in addition to this (remnant of the cyclone)."&nbsp;

Cyclone Biparjoy made landfall in Gujarat's coastal area on Thursday and brought heavy waterlogging and power cuts on Friday in Gujarat and the adjoining regions of the West Indian state.&nbsp;

Residents in Kutch and Bhuj districts reported major waterlogging with muddy water inundating residential areas. There were also reports of power cuts due to damage caused to power stations and electricity poles.

The IMD chief said that the conditions will be favourable for the advance of the monsoon over east India and some more parts of south India from June 18 to June 21.

Mahesh Palawat, vice president (meteorology and climate change) at private forecasting agency Skymet Weather said, "After causing heavy rainfall in Rajasthan, the system will lead to rain in central and east UP and Madhya Pradesh June 20 onwards. It will pull the monsoonal winds and help the monsoon advance over east India."&nbsp;

The new guidelines which will come into effect from May 4, say that all stranded people can return to their home towns after undergoing strict medical screening, both at the source and destination cities.

States must also organise thermal testing units and quarantine facilities for all those who are stranded, in order to clear asymptomatic cases, before sending them back.

However, the movement of migrants, tourists, and students will be restricted to non-containment zones.

Remember, several migrant workers and students were left stranded after the government announced a nationwide lockdown, last month.

This came as a report said that domestic carrier Air India may partially resume operations next month.

Meanwhile, a worrying trend has been observed in eastern India. Experts fear that the region which has reported fewer coronavirus cases compared to the rest of India may emerge as a hotspot.

A study has found that despite less number of infections, the states of Jharkhand, Bihar and West Bengal have the highest rate of coronavirus spread in India.

Experts say that West Bengal has the fastest doubling time among large states. Doubling time refers to the time taken for the number of cases to double.

They warn that West Bengal which has so far reported over 750 cases is on the way to become the next Maharashtra- which is worst hit by the outbreak in India. So far, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal account for nearly 4 per cent of the total coronavirus cases in India.

McDonald&#39;s estranged joint venture partner Vikram Bakshi said Monday that nearly all outlets of the fast-food chain in east India had been shut and several others in the north are on the verge of closing down due to discontinuation of supplies by its logistics partner.

All in all there are 80 outlets that have been hit by this cutoff in supplies by Radhakrishna Foodland, a move which is seen as a fallout of the ongoing spat between the fast food major and Bakshi.

The otherwise massive business in the festive season for McDonald&#39;s is set to see a huge blip which will hit the food chain&#39;s revenue.

&quot;Our long standing logistics vendor Radhakrishna Foodland allegedly in collusion with McDonald&#39;s corporation and their wholly owned subsidiary McDonald&#39;s India Pvt Ltd....Has decided to hold back stock paid for approximately Rs 10 crore by us,&quot; Bakshi said in a letter to the landlords and developers of his outlets.

He further wrote: &quot;While the American company and its subsidiary, MIPL, may have with their usual mala fide and malicious actions managed to give CPRL a temporary business setback at the end of the year and during this high sale festive season, yet we have made and are making alternative arrangements and shall be back to serve our customers very soon.&quot;

Bakshi has been at loggerheads with the fast food chain over the management of CPRL after he was ousted from the post of MD of the McDonald&#39;s franchisee in August 2013.

McDonalds&#39;s India in August terminated the franchise agreement and had asked CPRL not to use its brand system, trademark, designs and its associated intellectual property, among others.

Bakshi had moved the NCLT following termination of the licence by McDonald&#39;s India Pvt Ltd (MIPL).

When contacted, a McDonald&#39;s India spokesperson said: &quot;We were informed that their vendors have stopped delivering supplies...This is between CPRL and their vendors, not MIPL.&nbsp;
