Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga, <a href="https://www.wionews.com/opinions/how-the-bjp-lost-ground-in-jharkhand-271651">BJP</a> candidate from Hari Nagar constituency on Tuesday said that his party will win more than 50 seats in the Delhi Assembly polls.

"BJP will win more than 50 seats in the upcoming Assembly elections, Kejriwal ji is afraid of this. That is why documents were burnt at <a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/delhi-dtc-buses-torched-as-protests-against-citizenship-act-turn-violent-268397">Delhi Transport Corporation</a> (DTC) office, 15 days before the polls," Bagga told ANI.

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday released the second list of 10 candidates for Delhi polls.

Bagga is in the fray against Aam Aadmi Party's Princess Dhillon and Congress' Surender Sethi.

Voting for the 70-member Delhi assembly will be held on February 8.

The counting of votes will take place on February 11.

The BJP faces a tough battle in Delhi where it has been out of power for over two decades. The party could win only three seats in the last assembly polls with the ruling <a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/aap-govt-constructed-20k-new-classrooms-in-5-years-says-arvind-kejriwal-273224">AAP</a> scoring a landslide victory with 67 seats.

Car buyers will have to pay higher one-time parking charges in 2019 as the Delhi Transport Department has approved a recommendation for a hike by three municipal corporations of the city.

According to the order, the charges will now range between Rs 6,000 to Rs 75,000.

An order issued by outgoing Transport Commissioner Varsha Joshi on Friday said the new parking charges will be applicable from January 1, 2019.

The transport department collects the parking charges on behalf of the MCDs, which claim that it is meant for creating parking infrastructure in Delhi. The proposal by the three MCDs to hike the charges was pending for quite some time and was cleared by the transport commissioner on her last day in office, an official said.

The order angered bus and taxi operators as the annual parking fee for different categories of commercial vehicles will rise from the existing Rs 2,500-Rs 4,000 to Rs 10,000-Rs 25,000.

According to the order, based on the cost of a vehicle, the one-time parking charge for private cars and SUVs will range between Rs 6,000 and Rs 75,000 18 times the existing rate of Rs 4,000.

The process of charging the money during vehicle registration is prescribed through notification of Union Urban Affairs Ministry, not by the transport department, Joshi, who has taken charge as North Delhi Municipal Corporation's commissioner, told PTI.

The transport department only acts as the post office in the process, she said.

The parking charges mechanism will be replaced by spot parking fees after new parking regulations are notified by the Delhi government, she said. 
"Till then this mechanism will be applicable. So we followed an urban affairs ministry notification and issued these orders," she added.

Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot, however, denied having any information about the hike.

"I am not aware of any such decision," he told PTI.

Displeased by the government order, transporters in the city threatened to stage a protest against the hike.

"We will meet the chief minister and the transport minister on Monday against the hike because it will impact us negatively. If need be, we will resort to a strike also," said Shyam Lal Gola, spokesperson of State Transport Authority Operators Ekta Manch.

It's a very bad move that will pose hardships for all, including the commuters, president of Delhi Tourist Taxi Transport Association Sanjay Samrat said. 
"We will protest against the Delhi government," he said.

He added that they will meet the Lt Governor to appeal for a rollback of the hike.

The hike, which will boost finances of the civic bodies, may hit the transport department as it is likely that the sale of vehicles may shift to the neighbouring states because there will be a huge variation of rates in Delhi and other parts of the country, an official claimed.&nbsp;

Delhi&rsquo;s transport department is cracking down on such vehicles that have crash guards fitted in its front or back as it is the violation of government set rules.

As per the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, these accessories are illegal and installing them can attract a fine of 1,000 for the first offence and 2,000 for subsequent offences.&nbsp;

Those who sell or deliver such accessories are also liable to be fined upto Rs 5,000.

The crash guards are rods or bars made of steel, iron or plastic which are fixed in cars to protect the bumper, radiator, and headlights. They are also often fitted in two-wheelers.

These aftermarket accessories can be fatal to both passengers and pedestrians.&nbsp;

There are chances that the airbags may fail to operate due to the crash guard, causing harm to the driver and other passengers in the vehicle.&nbsp;

The move comes days after the Union ministry of road transport and highways asked all states to take stern action against unauthorised fitment of crash guards in vehicles.

The ministry stated that crash guards pose serious safety concerns to the pedestrians as well as occupants of the vehicle.

The crackdown is set to begin from January where both the traffic police and enforcement teams of the transport department will prosecute offenders.

Meanwhile, a&nbsp;graph containing the hourly-levels of ultrafine particulates PM2.5 and PM10 showed a distinct downward curve from around 12pm for the first time since Tuesday when the concentration of these pollutants breached the emergency scale.

A task force of the CPCB, which met to review the measures taken under the Graded Response Action Plan, concluded that the level of pollution will come down to the &#39;very poor&#39; category on Saturday, two notches below the &#39;emergency category&#39; prevailing now.
