David said though the priority will remain to pick centrally-contracted players for the mega tournament later this year, he also expects Boult to be part of it following ‘positive conversations’ between them recently.

After spending a long spell at NZC, David, who is set to retire in August this year, revealed that Boult has also shown interest in representing the Black Caps in the longer formats after opting not to sign the central contract last year.

In August 2022, a World Cup hat trick taker, Boult decided against signing the central contract to spend more time with his family and continue playing and remaining available for franchise cricket all around the world.

"We have made it very clear that priority is given to centrally-contracted players," White told New Zealand radio station Newstalk ZB this week. "That was the case during the summer. It is very important for the integrity of the competition and of the contracting model that we give priority to our centrally-contracted players.

"In saying that, we've had a lot of conversations with Trent over the last few weeks and months. I'd be very surprised if he wasn't representing New Zealand in the World Cup, and we're having very positive conversations with him," he added.

Besides, in a recent conversation with ESPNcricinfo, Boult further expressed his desire to still play at the highest level for his country, saying,

"I remember after the 2019 final, I said to Kane (Williamson) that we've got to be there again, come 2023 in India. One hundred percent, I've got that desire to be out there," Trent told ESPNcricinfo.

Meanwhile, David also commented on the latest players picking franchise cricket over international cricket crisis, saying he still believes we are far from this point – adding that many players across different countries still dream about representing their country in cricket. While those tend to pick franchise-based T20 tournaments ahead of playing for their countries are the largely the aged ones - something that doesn’t worry him much.

"I think that the players still say that Test cricket and representing their country is still the pinnacle. The majority of the players, that is certainly the case,” he said. "It would be fair to say that a lot of the players that are going into leagues are former (internationals), or (are) towards the end of their career. So I am not so concerned about that.”

Mike&nbsp;Hesson&nbsp;stunned New Zealand cricket on Thursday by announcing he will step down as coach at the end of next month, less than a year out from the World Cup.

The 43-year-old, who was appointed to the role in 2012, is to leave the job on July 31.

He said in a statement he wanted to spend more time with his family and felt he could not commit to the job for another 12 months.

"This job requires 100 per cent commitment and is all-consuming,"&nbsp;Hesson&nbsp;said. "I know what's required over the next 12 months, but if I'm honest, I don't feel I have the capacity to give the job what it deserves.

"The idea of missing a match, a tour or a format, as has been proposed at different times, has never sat well with me."

Hesson, who was a surprise choice for the role in 2012, had a rocky start when he dumped Ross Taylor as captain but turned the team around, guiding them to the 2015 World Cup final and the world's top ranking in Twenty20 cricket.

New Zealand was also ranked as high as second for one-day internationals and third for tests during his tenure, which would have officially ended after the May 30-July 14 World Cup in England and Wales next year.

NZC Chief Executive David White said in a statement he was reluctant to see&nbsp;Hesson&nbsp;leave.

Auckland's Eden Park may not host another test match with New Zealand Cricket (NZC) pondering the use of a redeveloped Western Springs Stadium as an alternative venue in the country's most populous city.

Hiring the multi-purpose Eden Park posed a serious financial challenge to NZC, which is not considering the stadium for any home test matches next year, according to a New Zealand news website.

"Auckland is currently missing out significantly on international cricket exposure due, primarily, to the lack of a cost-effective, financially-viable venue," NZC chief executive David White wrote in a submission to the Auckland Council.

"Eden Park, the only ICC-sanctioned arena in New Zealand's most populous city, is unaffordable for all but the biggest and, by definition, the rarest of international cricket fixtures.

"For this reason, Auckland has hosted just three test matches since 2006, and the number of one-day internationals and T20 internationals played in the city has been a mere fraction of what it would be, were it to offer a fit-for-purpose, international-standard cricket ground."

Eden Park hosted its first test match when New Zealand played England in 1930 and its most recent and 50th one was between the same opponents in March this year.

The NZC finds the 41,000 capacity stadium relatively "small" and is also not happy with its rectangular, football-shaped playing area.

Consequentially, action may shift to the Western Springs Stadium, which currently hosts speedway and rugby.

"As proposed, a newly-developed cricket amenity, with a full-sized, oval-shaped playing arena able to cater for both small and large crowds in a relaxed, grass-banked, more cricket-centric surrounding, would guarantee Auckland significantly more men's and women's international cricket," the NZC added.
