<p>The Crillon Debutantes Ball is a contemporary version of a British tradition which began in the eighteenth century.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The new form raises money for two charities like Seleni, a centre for women&#39;s mental health, and Children of Asia, which aims to raise the enrolment of young girls from Southeast Asia into education.</p>

<p>It was originally a ceremony for eligible young women from aristocratic families to be presented in front of the Queen when they turned 18. It was a sign that a woman was ready to be betrothed, and an introduction to families of a similar social standing.</p>

<p>Le Bal&#39;s dress code requires girls to wear haute couture dresses.</p>
