This is not the first time India is briefing foreign diplomats on its COVID action plan and response. In the past also such briefing have been conducted.

Amidst the COVID crisis, India has reached out to more than 150 countries with medicines such as HCQ, Paracetamol. During his United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) speech, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had assured the global community that "India’s vaccine production and delivery capacity will be used to help all humanity in fighting this crisis" and will also "help all the countries in enhancing their cold chain and storage capacities for the delivery of vaccines."

The focus will also be on the vaccine, with Health minister Harsh Vardhan claimed expressing hope that by early 2021 India will likely get a vaccine. As of now, three vaccines are in advanced stages of development in the country, out of which two are in phase two and one is in phase three. &nbsp;

India's Scientists and Research Teams are collaborating and strengthening the research capacities in neighbouring countries such as Afghanistan, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Maldives, Mauritius, Nepal and Sri Lanka. Countries such as Bangladesh, Myanmar, Qatar and Bhutan have requested for clinical trials in their countries.

In fact, on vaccine development, Indian officials with counterparts from Myanmar and Bangladesh have had meetings. This has also been the top focus during the foreign secretary's visit to both these countries. During a Myanmar visit earlier this month along with Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane, India gifted 3000 vials of Anti Covid Remdesivir to State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi as a "symbol" of India‘s commitment to helping Myanmar mitigate the impact of the pandemic.

For the neighbourhood, India has organised two training modules in which about 90 health experts and scientists have participated.

The United States voted against a UN resolution for a "comprehensive and coordinated response" to the COVID-19 pandemic, a text that included recognition of the WHO's leadership role, on Friday.

The country was supported only by Israel.

The measure, which has been negotiated since May, was consequently adopted by an overwhelming majority of 169 countries out of 193, with Ukraine and Hungary abstaining.

The text is called an omnibus resolution because it covers multiple aspects of the pandemic.&nbsp;

The resolution "acknowledges the key leadership role of WHO and the fundamental role of the United Nations system in catalysing and coordinating the comprehensive global response to the Covid-19 pandemic."

The text "calls for intensified international cooperation and solidarity to contain, mitigate and overcome the pandemic and its consequences." It supports UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres' call in March for a ceasefire between countries in order to better facilitate the fight against the pandemic -- a request that has been little followed.

The text additionally calls for "the urgent removal of unjustified obstacles," meaning sanctions, in order to create better access to products used in combatting the virus.

It requests nations to maintain food and agricultural supply chains and encourages synching economic recovery strategies to promote sustainable development and combat climate change.

Ahead of the vote, the United States unsuccessfully attempted to remove a paragraph on protecting women in the area of sexual and reproductive health, over objections about abortion.

Libya and Iraq also voted for the paragraph's removal. However more than 120 countries voted to keep it and 25 countries abstained.

UN adopts coronavirus response resolution; US votes against it

New Zealand's Jacinda Ardern has become the most popular prime minister of the country in a century, as per a poll conducted by Newshub-Reid Research. The surge in her approval rating has been due to her coronavirus response that has made the country&nbsp;most successful in containing the spread.&nbsp;

According to the polls, Ardern's Labour party saw a jump of 14 points to 56.5 per cent. This is the highest for any party ever, whereas, Nationals, despite being the biggest party in the parliament saw a fall of 12.7 points to 30.6 per cent.&nbsp;

These polls were conducted between May 8 and May 16 and half of the reactions were taken after the federal budget on Thursday.&nbsp;

Ardern remained on the top of the list as preferred prime minister with 59.5 per cent, which is the highest score for any leader in the Reid Research poll's history.

The poll was based on public sentiments after level three lockdown. The shutdown earned massive support of 92 per cent where people thought it was the right call.

The country has eased up its lockdown since late April after a month under strict "level 4" lockdown. But has continued to enforce strict social measures on many of its citizens and businesses, helping prevent widespread community spread of the virus.
