To contest the Lok Sabha elections&nbsp;in Rajsamand in the northern state of Rajasthan, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded Mahima Kumari, the wife of Vishvaraj Singh Mewar, a descendant of the Royal family of Mewar.&nbsp;

Vishvaraj Singh Mewar comes from the lineage of Bhagwat Singh of Mewar, the last Maharana of Mewar. His ancestry traces back to the renowned Rajput warrior Maharana Pratap, an iconic figure celebrated for his courage in the face of adversity during the Mughal era.&nbsp;

Earlier, BJP had fielded present state Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari from the same seat where she emerged victorious.

In an exclusive interview with WION's Heena Sharma, Mahima Kumari, the BJP candidate from Rajsamand, spoke on her family's deep-rooted connection to the Mewar region.

"My family has been in this area for the last 1400 years, and I take them as my family and my father-in-law... he was also an MP earlier," Mahima Kumari shared when asked about the potential impact of her royal lineage on voters' decisions.

"First I will say that I got to learn so a lot of learning happened and they are family for me so I came to help my husband like a family member and work with my other family members," she further said.

Notably, Vishvaraj Singh Mewar was elected MLA from the Nathdwara Assembly constituency in the Rajasthan Assembly elections in 2023.&nbsp;Speaking about her involvement in her husband's&nbsp;campaign for the&nbsp;MLA seat&nbsp;last year, Mahima discussed the familial bonds and commitment to serve the people of Mewar.

"Our relation with the whole Mewar area has been for 1400 years and for us they are our family and when I worked with them. I think the lower level, all the Karyakartas, they suggested my name up so that is the reason. And we work for the people very selflessly. Yeah, during elections I connected with all the mandap adhyaksh, sarpanch, and booth-level. I learned from them. They learned from me. Sometimes we used to fight, sometimes we used to be happy. So it's been a very beautiful journey for me,"&nbsp;&nbsp;she told WION when asked why the BJP has given tickets to the same family members.&nbsp;

On being asked about the major poll issues that concern the people of Rajsamand, Mahima Kumari spoke of the work done by the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his party.

"I think that everyone is looking at Modi ji and whatever he has done in the past 10 years. I think that is enough. I do not have to say anything more and we will walk in his footsteps and do our best."

Speaking on the vision she has for her&nbsp;constituency's development, the BJP Rajsamand candidate said, "I'd like to do whatever is the best and from this side. There are 8 MLAs from this Lok Sabha constituency and all are BJP MLAs so we will sit together... all our 8 MLAs and when I am elected we will discuss whatever is the best for Rajsamand."

According to BJP's Amit Malviya, the decision to give away Bharuch is Rahul Gandhi's attempt to erase Ahmed Patel's legacy and humiliate the family. Malviya criticised the Congress and the Gandhi family, accusing them of believing in "use and throw."

The Bharuch seat has been firmly held by the BJP for seven consecutive terms. This established it as a pivotal battleground for opposition factions.

Mumtaz Patel, daughter of late Congress leader Ahmed Patel, expressed disappointment over the recent seat-sharing arrangement between the Congress and AAP for the upcoming parliamentary polls in Gujarat.

The discontent arises from the Bharuch seat, a traditional stronghold for the Congress, slipping into the hands of AAP.

"Deeply apologize to our district cadre for not being able to secure the Bharuch Lok Sabha seat in alliance. I share your disappointment," Mumtaz Patel said&nbsp;on her X social media platform.&nbsp;

"Together, we will regroup to make Congress stronger. We won't let Ahmed Patel's 45 years of legacy go in vain. #bharuchkibeti (sic)" she added.&nbsp;

He also flagged off the 900th coach and Humsafar rake made by the Modern Coach Factory here.

"The Centre is committed to the development of Raebareli. Earlier governments neglected it," he said in his first public meeting after the BJP's loss in recent Assembly polls.

He, however, did not name any party.

Modi, who inspected the Modern Coach Factory, said its neglect was "an example of injustice to the country's means and resources by previous governments".

The factory was sanctioned in 2007 but failed to take off, he said.

A case has been registered against Dalit leader and Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mewani for allegedly making provocative remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi at an event in Chitradurga, about 200 km from Bengaluru, police said. The case was filed based on a complaint from a designated ‘flying squad officer’ on election duty of Chitradurga Assembly Constituency, T Jayanth.

In his complaint, Jayanth alleged that Mewani had made the remarks against Modi while addressing a gathering at an event in Chitradurga last evening.

Cases were registered under IPC sections 153, 188 117 and 34, police said on Friday. “The role of youth is important today. When Modi Ji arrives at Bengaluru on April 15 to address a public gathering you mingle with the crowd, throw the chairs in the air and disturb his meeting,” Mewani was allegedly quoted as saying.

The FIR against Mewani was registered on charges of ‘inciting people to foment disturbance’ when Modi addresses a public rally in the city, ahead of the May 12 assembly polls. “You ask him what happened to the promise of two crore jobs every year. If he fails to give any answer, then tell him to go sleep in Himalaya or ring the Rama Temple bells,” he had said.

There has been no reaction from the Trinamool Congress so far. Bhutia, who joined the Trinamool Congress in 2013, contested on the party ticket from Darjeeling in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls. He has, however, lost to BJP&rsquo;s SS Ahluwalia by a vote margin of nearly 2 lakh.

The Padma Shri winner, who belongs to Sikkim had recently gone against the party line by expressing his support for a separate Gorkhaland.

Also, there have been recent speculations about the star joining the BJP.

Sidelined AIADMK leader T T V Dhinakaran, who is contesting the December 21 RK Nagar bypoll, today declared movable and immovable assets valued at Rs 74 lakh, a tad higher than his earlier declaration in April.

In his affidavit submitted to the Election Commission along with his nomination papers today, Dhinakaran said his movable and immovable assets totalled Rs 74,17,807, with movable assets valued at Rs 57.44 lakh.

His movable assets were Rs 16.73 lakh, the 53 year-old former MP said.

Further, the gross total value of movable assets of his spouse and a dependent was around Rs 6.87 crore and Rs 1.17 crore, respectively, he declared in the affidavit.

Among the cases taken cognisance of by court was the one regarding the alleged bribery of an Election Commission official as part of the Two Leaves dispute, he said.

Delhi Police had earlier filed the case against him and the sidelined leader is now on bail, with the other accused being one Sukesh Chandrasekar.

Four FIR&#39;s were pending against him on other matters, Dhinakaran added.

Dhinakaran&#39;s challenger and AIADMK nominee E Madhusudhanan declared movable and immovable assets valued at over Rs 1.49 crore.

The 75 year-old veteran, who took on Dhinakaran as the candidate of then rebel O Panneerselvam camp in April, also mentioned he had no pending cases against him.

While the value of his movable property stood at Rs 12.53 lakh, that of his immovable property was Rs 1.37 crore, he said in his affidavit. He had no liabilities, he added.

The party veteran has been fielded once again to face the bypoll, this time as the AIADMK candidate.

Last week, the Election Commission had allotted the &#39;Two Leaves&#39; symbol to the Palaniswami-led faction, as both his led camp as well as that of Dhinakaran had staked claim for it.

Palaniswami and Panneerselvam had merged their respective led factions in August this year.

Meanwhile, DMK&#39;s N Maruthu Ganesh, a political greenhorn, declared assets valued at Rs 12.57 lakh.

A B.Com, LLB graduate,Maruthu Ganesh said in his affidavit that his immovable assets were valued at Rs 10 lakh, even as his liabilities to two private persons stood at a similar sum.

A case under Section 4(b) of Tamil Nadu open places (prevention of Disfigurement) Act, 1959, was pending against him.
