The case against&nbsp;Latha&nbsp;was lodged under sections 171C, 186, 505(1)(c) of IPC and Section 132 of the Representation of the People Act at the&nbsp;Malakpet Police Station.

"I am a candidate. As per law candidate has the right to check the ID cards without the facemasks. I am not a man, I am a woman and with a lot of humbleness, I have only requested them - can I please see and verify with the ID cards? <h2>Latha alleges discrepancies in voter list</h2>

Earlier today, Latha claimed discrepancies in the voter list in her constituency.

"The Police personnel seem very dull, they are not active...They are not checking anything. Senior citizen voters are coming here but their names are deleted from the list. A few of them are residents of Goshamahal but their names are in the list of Rangareddy...," ANI quoted the BJP leader as saying.

Latha is competing against four-time Lok Sabha MP and AIMIM chief, Asaduddin Owaisi from the Hyderabad seat and Bharat Rashtra Samithi's Gaddam Srinivas Yadav.

This is for the very first time that the saffron party has fielded a female candidate from this&nbsp;Lok Sabha constituency.

Union Minister Smriti Irani taking a swipe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi questioned his ability to engage in a one-on-one discussion with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and asked&nbsp;if he was a “PM candidate of the INDI Alliance”.&nbsp;

Her remarks came after Gandhi accepted an invitation to have a public debate with the Indian prime minister over crucial issues concerning the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.

The BJP leader also hit out at Kharge after he wrote a letter to the leaders of the INDIA bloc alleging discrepancies in the voting data released by the Election Commission.

"Congress talked about counting the wealth of the people. It showed the way to take away half of the property of the citizens. Congress speaks of reversing the decision on Ram Temple. All of these issues are national issues and not just the PM, but every citizen has the right to have an opinion on them," she said.

"If Kharge ji thinks that the aware voters and citizens should not take an interest in national politics, then maybe he thinks that everyone has thoughts like Rahul Gandhi," she added.

"This means the nakli NCP and nakli Shiv Sena have made up their minds to merge with the Congress," PM Modi said, addressing an election rally in Nandurbar district of north Maharashtra.

PM Modi's remarks came after the NCP (SP) leader in a recent statement said that factions and regional parties should either come closer or merge with the Congress in the coming years.

"In the next couple of years, several regional parties will associate more closely with the Congress. Or they may look at the option of merging with the Congress if they believe that is the best for their party," NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar had told The Indian Express.

Lok Sabha Polls: PM Modi tells Sharad Pawar and Uddhav Thackeray to join BJP-led NDA, NCP (SP) leader responds

BJP leader Deveraje Gowda was taken into police custody on Friday night near Hiriyur in the Chitradurga district after allegations of molestation and sexual harassment were levelled against him.

Notably, Gowda, who recently grabbed headlines over links with the alleged obscene video case involving Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna, had flagged the matter to central BJP&nbsp;leadership in December 2023 before the party joined hands with Janata Dal (Secular).

The Special Investigation Team (SIT), probing the Prajwal Revanna sex scandal case, had directed Gowda to appear before it.

He will be taken for further investigation to Hassan district where a sexual harassment case against him was registered after a woman lodged a complaint in April.

Gowda has been charged under sections 354 (A), 354C, 448, 504, 506, and 34 of the IPC and 66(E) of the Information Technology Act, 2008.&nbsp;

Earlier on May 6, Gowda had publicly denounced the ruling Congress government in Karnataka, condemning it for "trying to frame the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi" in Prajwal Revanna&nbsp;case.

The grand old party, however, rebuffed all accusations made by Gowda calling it a "bundle of lies".

Gowda also alleged that the Karnataka government was making attempts to stifle the proofs and distort the investigation, terming the SIT as "remote-controlled" by the state government.

<h2>Blue Corner notice issued against Prajwal Revanna</h2>

Earlier, Karnataka Home Minister, G Parameshwara said that a Blue Corner notice was issued against Prajwal Revanna.

A blue notice permits Interpol to gather details regarding an individual's identity, whereabouts, or actions linked to a criminal inquiry.

Parameshwara also said that the state government is requesting Interpol's help in repatriating Prajwal Revanna, accused of serious sexual harassment.

Earlier, Janata Dal (Secular) party leader HD Revanna was arrested in the matter and brought to the SIT office.

The action was taken by the police on the basis of a complaint&nbsp;filed by the son of the woman who was allegedly "abducted and sexually abused".

The FIR alleged that the woman who worked as a housemaid at HD Revanna's home for six years was sexually abused by Revanna's son Prajwal, who is also the Lok Sabha candidate for BJP-JD(S) from the Hassan constituency, before returning to her village.

After Sam Pitroda courted major controversy over his "racist" comment that eventually led to him having to quit the post as Indian Overseas Congress chief, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury made another contentious statement where he claimed that there are "people of N-type class and Mongolians" in the country.

"There are people of "N" type class in our country, some are like "Mongolians", some are black, some are white, no denying'," said Chowdhury.

Pitroda recently stirred a political furore by his remarks about India's diversity.

He had said in a podcast: "We have survived 75 years in a very happy environment where people could live together, leaving aside a few fights here and there.

"We could hold the country as diverse as India together. Where people in the east look like the Chinese, people in the west look like the Arabs, people in the north look like, maybe, white and people in the south look like Africans.

"It does not matter. All of us are brothers and sisters. We respect different languages, different religions, different customs, different food," Pitroda said in the interview.

His comments went viral soon after.&nbsp;

BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, slammed Pitroda over his remarks, asking, “Will the ability of people be decided in my country on the basis of skin colour?”

Following the intense backlash, Pitroda resigned as chairman of the Indian Overseas Congress "of his own accord".

After Sam Pitroda controversy, Adhir Ranjan calls Indians 'Mongolians, N-types'

Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) leader Dushyant Chautala on Wednesday said that if Leader of Opposition BS Hooda takes steps to bring down the Nayab Saini government, his party would support the move.

The former deputy chief minister’s statement came a day after three Independent MLAs withdrew support to the Saini government.

The BJP government, which has the support of two other Independents is now two short of the majority mark in the 90-member House which has a current strength of 88.

“I want to tell Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda that going by the present numbers in the Assembly, if a step is taken that this government is brought down during (Lok Sabha) elections, then we will fully consider to support them in this,” Chautala told reporters in Hisar.

“Now, the Congress has to think whether they will take a step to bring down the BJP government,” he said.

Sam Pitroda resigns as Indian Overseas Congress chairman after controversy over racist remark

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unit of the northeastern state of Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday (May 7) expelled its 28 members for contesting elections in their respective Assembly and Parliamentary constituencies against the party's official candidates.

The individuals have been removed from the party for a period of six years.

The saffron party released an official statement saying that the members took a decision contrary to the directives issued by the BJP during the Parliamentary and Assembly polls of 2024.

The disciplinary action against the individuals was taken following the recommendations of the State Disciplinary Action Committee.

“The following list of persons have contested election in their respective Assembly &amp; Parliamentary constituencies against the official party candidates in the simultaneous Parliamentary &amp; Assembly Election 2024. Consequent upon the recommendation of the State Disciplinary Action Committee, under the Chairmanship of Shri Tarh Tarak; the Party hereby expels them for a period of Six (6) Years…with immediate effect,” the expulsion order read.

The expelled 28 members contested the elections from the constituencies of the National People’s Party which is headed by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, the People’s Party of Arunachal and the Nationalist Congress Party.

The Assembly and Lok Sabha elections in the BJP-ruled state were held on April 19. The results of the Assembly polls will be declared on June 2.

In the 2014 elections, Kiren Rijiju of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged victorious in the Arunachal West Lok Sabha constituency, defeating Nabam Tuki of the Indian National Congress (INC).

Tapir Gao from the BJP clinched victory in the Arunachal East Lok Sabha constituency triumphing over Lowangcha Wanglat of the INC by a significant margin of 69,948 votes.

Congress leader from Maharashtra Vijay Wadettiwar courted a major controversy over his remarks about the death of former state anti-terrorism squad (ATS) head Hemant Karkare during the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.

In his "contentious" claim, Wadettiwar stated that Karkare succumbed to bullet injuries due to firing&nbsp;by a police officer affiliated to RSS and not by terrorist Ajmal Kasab.

He then went on to accuse the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Mumbai North Central candidate and former 26/11 prosecution lawyer Ujjwal Nikam of hiding the information, and called him an "anti-national".

Union Minister Anurag Thakur slammed Channi over his "ridiculous" remarks and demanded an apology from the grand old party.

"I have a question for Congress: Were the 1962, 1965, and 1971 wars done for winning elections? On such a ridiculous statement, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi should apologise...They question the ability of our forces...How low will Congress stoop? Will Congress insult our Bravehearts for the sake of winning elections?" Thakur said.

Punjab leader Sunil Jakhar, who recently quit Congress and joined BJP, also lashed out at the former Punjab CM, calling his remarks "ghastly."

The cash was recovered from the household help of Sanjiv Lal, personal secretary to Jharkhand Rural Development Minister Alamgir Alam. According to reports, the officials have found Rs 25 crore (nearly $3 million) of unaccounted cash.&nbsp;

Ram was arrested by the federal agency in February 2023 in a money laundering case linked to alleged irregularities in the implementation of some schemes.

<h2>Lovely wrote letter to Kharge</h2>

Lovely, who stepped down from the post of the Delhi Congress chief on April 28, wrote a letter to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge citing that he was against the alliance between Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi.&nbsp;

"The Delhi Congress unit was against an alliance with a party which was formed on the sole basis of levelling false, fabricated and malafide corruption charges against the Congress party. Despite that, the party made a decision to ally with the AAP in Delhi...," Arvinder Singh Lovely wrote in his resignation letter.

He further underlined that the remarks made by the North-East Delhi candidate Kanhaiya Kumar where he made "factually incorrect statements" and falsely praised Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, did not go well with the local party unit.

"Such ill-thought and factually incorrect statements have not gone down well with the local party unit since, the local party workers had an inherent understanding that the alliance was not done in appreciation of AAP's false propaganda of the development of Delhi and was in fact, a "compromise&nbsp;to improve the chances of victory for the party as part of the National Alliance," he said.

Voting for all the seven Lok Sabha constituencies in Delhi is scheduled to take place on May 25, which is the sixth phase of the ongoing general elections.

The results of the polls will be announced on June 4.

Lok Sabha elections: Congress' Sucharita Mohanty returns ticket due to lack of funding

The Delhi Police will likely summon the members of the Telangana Congress for the second time over India's Union Home Minister Amit Shah's fake video case, said&nbsp;officials on Thursday (May 2).

The development comes after the four members of the Telangana Congress, who were asked to appear before the office of the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) on Wednesday (May 1), did not do so.

"We will again ask them to appear before the IO (investigating officer), as they did not come on Wednesday," an officer, privy to the investigation said.

The police had issued notices to Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and four Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) members -- Shiva Kumar Ambala, Asma Tasleem, Satish Manne and Naveen Pettem -- under sections 91 and 160 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).

Reddy's attorney appeared before the court on Wednesday and affirmed that he was neither involved in tampering with the video nor in its circulation.

The police officials said that over 22 people from several political parties in various states including Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh were served notices in connection with the case and have been asked to appear before court on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

The Telangana police officials on Thursday said that they had arrested five people from the Congress IT cell.

Earlier Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the state police had arrested an individual named Sri Reetom Singh in connection with the fake video case.

The BJP had earlier alleged that the original footage of Shah had him talk about the removal of a 4 per cent "unconstitutional" reservation for Muslims in Telangana.

However, the saffron party said that the footage, which was from a recent election rally, was edited in a manner where it indicated that the Union Home Minister was advocating the move to scrap reservations for backward groups.

A case has been registered under Sections 153, 153A, 465, 469, 171G of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 66C of the Information Technology (IT) Act and a probe has been initiated, said the sources as per Indian news agencies.

"The video seems to be doctored, spreading misleading information with the intention of creating disharmony among communities which is likely to affect public tranquillity and public order issues. Janata Dal (Secular) (JD(S)) supremo HD Kumaraswamy on Monday (Apr 29) announced that the party has decided to suspend his nephew Prajwal Revanna over allegations of sexual abuse.

Revanna is the BJP-JD(S) alliance candidate for the Lok Sabha polls from the Hassan constituency, which went to the polls on Friday (Apr 26).

He then took a jibe at the party stating that the Congress is in "panic" mode after the polling in Karnataka during the second phase of Lok Sabha elections on April 26.

While addressing a public meeting in Karnataka's Davanagere, PM Modi said, "The state of Karnataka has created a panic in the Congress party with the voting on April 26...they are very frustrated. Congress is working with all might to ensure that something happens on May 7, and they are at least able to open their accounts...this huge gathering is clearly showing that people of the state will punish Congress for its sins."

Following the recent killing of Neha&nbsp;Hiremath in the south Indian state of Karnataka, the accused's father on Saturday (Apr 20) demanded maximum punishment for his son Fayaz Khondunaik and apologised to the victim's family.&nbsp;

Neha, daughter of Congress Councillor from Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation, was killed on campus by Fayaz, who used to be her classmate, earlier this month in broad day light.&nbsp;

As the southwest Indian state of Karnataka is set to go to polls in the second and third phase of Lok Sabha elections on April 26 and May 7, the&nbsp;killing of the Congress corporator's daughter has become a major flashpoint between the ruling Congress party and the opposition BJP in the state.&nbsp;

Neha was a first-year Master of Computer Applications (MCA) student at KLE Technological University in Hubballi.

Fayaz's father, Baba Saheb Subani, a school teacher by profession said he was informed about the incident on Thursday evening and was left aghast by his 23-year-old son's act.

"He (Fayaz) should be punished in a way that no one dares to do such a thing in future. With folded hands, I apologise to Neha's family members. She was like my daughter," he told reporters.

Subani further said that he had separated from his wife almost six years ago and since then Fayaz has been living with his mother.&nbsp;

He said that he spoke to his son about three months ago and that Fayaz only called him when he needed money.

Subani then recalled that eight months ago, Neha's family spoke to him and alleged that his son was troubling their daughter.

Admitting that his son made a mistake, he said Fayaz and Neha were in a relationship and loved each other.

"Fayaz told me he wanted to marry her but I refused it with folded hands," he added.

He then condemned his son's act and demanded strict punishment for Fayaz, stating that no one should ever dare to commit such atrocities against women.&nbsp;

"I request the people of Karnataka to forgive me. My son has done wrong. He will be punished by the law of the land and I welcome it. My town has got a black mark because of my son. People of Munavalli (Fayaz's hometown) please forgive me. You raised us. Please forgive me," he pleaded with folded hands.

Earlier, Fayaz's mother Mamtaz, who is also a teacher by profession, demanded capital punishment for her son.

“I apologise to the people of Karnataka as well as Neha’s family for what my son has done. It is a great injustice to Neha and her family," she said.

“What my son has done is completely wrong and we hang our heads in shame. What he did is a big mistake and he should be given strict punishment as per the law of the land,” she added.

Subani further said that he had separated from his wife almost six years ago and since then Fayaz has been living with his mother. He said that he spoke to his son about three months ago and that Fayaz only called him when he needed money. Subani then recalled that eight months ago, Neha's family spoke to him and alleged that his son was troubling their daughter. Admitting that his son made a mistake, he said Fayaz and Neha were in a relationship and loved each other. "Fayaz told me he wanted to marry her but I refused it with folded hands," he added. He then condemned his son's act and demanded strict punishment for Fayaz, stating that no one should ever dare to commit such atrocities against women. "I request the people of Karnataka to forgive me. My son has done wrong. He will be punished by the law of the land and I welcome it. My town has got a black mark because of my son. People of Munavalli (Fayaz's hometown) please forgive me. You raised us. Please forgive me," he pleaded with folded hands. To them, it is nothing but pages that mean nothing," Priyanka claimed.

She further said that under the NDA rule, the foundation of the country stands on the threshold of destruction.

Accusing the BJP of hatching a conspiracy to kill Kejriwal, Sunita claimed that her husband was denied insulin in jail which he has been consuming for the past 12 years.

"Many people say politics is a very dirty thing, and it's true. There is a camera over his food, his every morsel is being monitored...He is a sugar patient, and he has been taking 50 units of insulin every day for the last 12 years. But he is not being given insulin in jail. They want to kill Delhi's CM," the wife of the AAP national convenor said.

"They can never understand Arvind Kejriwal's thoughts. He believes he has received a very good education and upbringing, which is an obligation to him that he has to repay. He has struggled and fought for the country. He is very brave. He is a lion. He is only thinking about how to ease the lives of common citizens. He is worried about 'Bharat Mata' even in jail," she added.

She then read out Kejriwal's message from jail, elaborating upon vows made by AAP for the Lok Sabha polls.

"He (Arvind Kejriwal) has said if the INDIA bloc comes to power and is given the responsibility, we will all make India great. 'INDIA' is not just in our name, but in our hearts too," the former bureaucrat said.

"He has given six guarantees: 24 hours of electricity without power cuts, free electricity for the poor, quality and free education in government schools, Mohalla clinics in every village, and multi-speciality hospitals in every district. Farmers will get crop prices according to the Swaminathan Commission, and Delhi will be given full statehood," she further added.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday (Apr 15) lashed out at the Election Commission accusing it of "favouring" the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

She then said that if there is a single riot in the state, ECI would be responsible, further threatening to go on a hunger strike outside the poll panel's office for 55 days if needed.

While addressing a rally at Alipurduar, the TMC supremo claimed that the ECI ousted the Deputy Inspector General of Police of Murshidabad at the BJP's order.

"Even today, just based on BJP's instructions, the DIG of Murshidabad was changed. Now, if there are riots in Murshidabad and Malda, the responsibility will lie with the Election Commission. The BJP wanted to change the police officers to trigger riots and violence. If there is even one riot, the ECI will be responsible as they are looking after law and order here," she said.

"If I can fast for farmers for 26 days (during anti-land acquisition protests in Singur), I can go on a hunger strike for 55 days outside your (EC) office as well," she added.

The TMC chief while addressing a rally in Cooch Behar claimed that BJP was "misusing" central agencies against the party ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

"Income Tax officials conducted a raid and searched Abhishek Banerjee's chopper before the trial run but found nothing. Those I-T officials claimed that we had inputs that there was money and gold in the chopper, but they found nothing. We don't engage in such acts. It is the BJP that is involved in such things. But will the officials of the central agency ever dare to check BJP leaders' choppers," she said.

Mamata slams ECI for 'favouring' Modi govt, accuses BJP of 'misusing' central agencies

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi rebuffed accusations by the Opposition that there was no 'level playing field' in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls stating that these were mere excuses by the INDIA bloc leaders over their impending defeat.

Refuting assertions made by the opposition regarding misuse of the Enforcement Directorate, PM Modi emphasised that only 3 per cent of its cases were against political people whereas the probe agency seized a much higher amount in the last decade.

"None of the law regarding this was made by my government. Whether it is ED, CBI or Election Commission," the Indian prime minister said in an interview with news agency ANI.

He further highlighted that the BJP-led government also passed a bill that ensures the presence of a Leader of Opposition in the three-member committee to select the three Election Commissioners.

"In fact, we have made improvements in the Election Commission. Today, if the Election Commission is formed, then the opposition is also in it. Chowdhury later released clarification over TMC's post saying that a group of unidentified "drunken" youths "stopped" his car and chanted "go back" slogans.

He stated that this was a practice started by the Trinamool Congress during last year's civic polls.

"This is nothing but a ploy to stop me. The local TMC is behind this. They want people not to work for the Congress party. This is the same thing they had done during the civic polls last year," Chowdhury told reporters.

"They were yelling: Go back, go back!! I stopped and asked them what their complaints were. Initially, only one person was there, but then several others joined him. I realised that it was organised by the TMC. But they would not be able to stop me in this way," he said.

In his latest poll promise, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has said that if voted to power, his party will conduct a financial as well as institutional survey to determine the wealth distribution among people throughout the country.

He said that along with the survey, as promised, the party will also conduct a nationwide caste census

"We will first conduct a nationwide caste census to determine how many people belong to the Other Backward Classes (OBCs), Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), and minorities. After that, we will conduct a financial and institutional survey in a historic step to ascertain the distribution of wealth," Gandhi said while addressing a public rally in Hyderabad.

The Congress leader further emphasised that the grand old party would make sure that all the communities are represented in every sphere of society and that their rightful share is given.

He said that even though 90 per cent of the total population comprises SCs, STs, OBCs and minorities, they cannot be seen in jobs.

"The truth is that this 90 per cent of the population does not have a share at all," Gandhi said.

"There are 90 IAS officers who run the country's administration. But only three of them are OBCs, one Adivasi and three Dalits," he added.&nbsp;

"The spirit of the manifesto is the five guarantees. First of all, every youth will get a job with a salary of Rs 1 lakh per year. We have made an apprenticeship law in which every youth in India will be guaranteed a one-year apprenticeship. This will be applicable in the public sector, private, education and all sectors. Apart from this, more promises for the youth are in our manifesto," Gandhi added.

He also underlined that under the 'Nari Nyay Law', they will deposit Rs 1 lakh in the bank account of a woman from a poor household in India, every year.

"This is a revolutionary step. This will change the face of the whole country. Just imagine, the Congress party government is going to give at least Rs 1 lakh directly to the bank account of the poorest families in India. This means that there will not be a single family in India whose income will not be Rs 1 lakh per year," he said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his rally in Ajmer on Saturday launched a scathing attack against Congress and slammed the party's manifesto calling it a "bundle of lies". &nbsp;

He also said that every page of the document "smells of breaking India into pieces".

"Yesterday the Congress Party released its manifesto, a bundle of lies. Every page of this smells of breaking India into pieces. The same thinking is reflected in the Congress manifesto as was present in the Muslim League at the time of independence. Congress wants to impose the views of the Muslim League of that time on India today," PM Modi said while addressing a rally in Rajasthan's Ajmer.

The Indian prime minister claimed that today's Congress is "bereft of principles and policies".

"Congress of today is bereft of principles and policies. Today Congress has neither principles nor policies left. It was apparent that the party had outsourced everything," he said.

"The manifesto released by Congress reflects the same thinking that was prevalent in the Muslim League during the freedom struggle. The Congress manifesto completely bears the imprint of the Muslim League and the little remaining party," the PM added.

Lok Sabha Election: Home Minister Amit Shah slams Congress chief Kharge for his remarks on Kashmir

A day after being expelled from the Congress National party, Sanjay Nirupam on Thursday (April 4) took a swipe at the Congress, and said, "Congress is currently a collapsed party."

The Congress party on Wednesday (April 3) expelled senior leader Sanjay Nirupam for six years for ‘indiscipline’ and ‘anti-party statements’, amid seat-sharing talks with Shiv Sena (UBT) for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

While addressing the media, Nirupam said, “Congress is a party that has disintegrated structurally. Earlier, there used to be one power centre in the Congress, however, there are five power centres in the party. Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, party president Mallikarjun Kharge and KC Venugopal. All have their own separate power centres and these lobbies keep exerting their power against each other."&nbsp;
