But after their stunning rescue, a custody battle has started among their relatives, with the father of two of them facing accusations of domestic violence.&nbsp;

News agencies quoted welfare officials as saying on Monday (June 12) that the kids are recovering and in "high spirits". In a video sent to the media, Adriana Velasquez of the Colombian Family Welfare Institute said that the children have been colouring, and drawing. "They love to talk," she said, further mentioning that they are even drawing a picture thought to depict a missing army search dog.&nbsp;

The kids are expected to stay at the hospital for several days and during the same period, the authorities will interview family members to decide who should take the responsibility of taking care of them.&nbsp;

The maternal grandparents want custody as they are vying with the father for the two youngest children. They have requested to assign a caseworker to the children, said Astrid Cáceres while speaking during an interview with BLU radio.&nbsp;

Cáceres, who is the head of the Colombian Institute of Family Welfare, said, "We are going to talk, investigate, learn a little about the situation." She further added that the agency has not ruled out that they and their mother may have experienced domestic abuse.&nbsp;

She said, "The most important thing at this moment is the children's health, which is not only physical but also emotional, the way we accompany them emotionally."&nbsp;

Colombia plane crash: Rescued kids face custody battle between relatives

After more than five weeks since their plane crashed in a dense jungle, four children from an Indigenous community in Colombia have been miraculously found&nbsp;alive in the southern part of the country. The siblings were rescued by the military near the border between Colombia's Caqueta and Guaviare provinces, close to the crash site of the small aircraft.

<h2>The plane crash</h2>

During the early hours of May 1, a Cessna 206, carrying seven individuals from Araracuara in Amazonas province to San Jose del Guaviare in Guaviare province, issued a distress signal due to engine failure.&nbsp;

Three adults, including the pilot and the children's mother Magdalena Mucutuy, lost their lives in the crash and were found deceased inside the plane. However, the four siblings — three girls and one boy, aged 13, 9, 4, and a baby who is now 12 months old, managed to survive the impact.

Narcizo Mucutuy, the grandfather of the four children, expressed his joy upon hearing about the rescue of his grandchildren. Talking to reporters, he said, "As the grandfather to my grandchildren who went missing in the jungles of the Yari, at this moment I am very happy."

Photographs shared by the Colombian military depict a group of soldiers standing with the four children in the heart of the jungle.

Colombian President Gustavo Petro&nbsp;shared his excitement about the news via Twitter. He wrote: "A joy for the whole country! The four children who were lost in the Colombian jungle appeared alive."

However, during a press briefing on Friday, he confirmed their rescue and mentioned that the children had managed to fend for themselves in the middle of the jungle. He said, "They were together, they are weak, let's let the doctors assess them. They found them, it makes me very happy."

<h2>How did rescue teams find the kids&nbsp;after more than a month in the thick jungle?</h2>

As per Reuters, rescue teams, with the assistance of search dogs, had previously discovered discarded fruits that the children had consumed to survive. They also came across improvised shelters crafted from jungle vegetation.

The rescue operations also involved the participation of aeroplanes and helicopters from Colombia's army and air force.

The army said it immediately sent troops of an anti-drug brigade to the crash site, but bad weather impeded their efforts.

The government has long struggled against illegal armed groups and drug gangs in Cauca, whose strategic position on the Pacific Coast has made it a launching point for cocaine shipments to Central America and the United States.&nbsp;

&quot;We have a fuel emergency, ma&#39;am, that&#39;s why I am asking you for it at once,&quot; the pilot replied.

Shortly after, the pilot radioed: &quot;Miss, LAMIA 933 is in total failure, total electrical failure, without fuel.&quot;

The operator responded: &quot;Runway clear and expect rain on the runway Lima-Mike-India 2933. Firefighters alerted.&quot;

The pilot of an Aviance plane flying near by confirmed he had overheard the LAMIA plane reporting an emergency.
