A woman from the US state of Ohio who had previously been convicted of assault after she hurled a burrito bowl at a Chipotle worker has been offered an unusual way to reduce her time in jail – to work at a fast food restaurant.&nbsp;

Rosemary Hayne, a 39-year-old, mother of four became famous, for all the wrong reasons, after a video of her screaming at a Chipotle employee – later identified as Emily Russell – before throwing her food in the worker’s face went viral, in September.&nbsp;

The 39-year-old later pleaded guilty to a misdemeanour assault charge and received the sentence last week in an Ohio municipal court. Initially, she was sentenced to pay a fine and serve 180 days in jail. However, it seems like the judge had another idea.&nbsp;

“You didn’t get your burrito bowl the way you like it and this is how you respond?” Parma Municipal Court Judge Timothy Gilligan asked Hayne. “This is not ‘Real Housewives of Parma.’ This behavior is not acceptable.”

The judge then told the 39-year-old she could cut off 60 days in jail if she agreed to work at least 20 hours per week at a fast food restaurant for two months.&nbsp;

“Do you want to walk in her shoes for two months and learn how people should treat people, or do you want to do your jail time?” Gilligan asked Hayne at the hearing.

To which Hayne responded by saying, “I’d like to walk in her shoes.” The 39-year-old has yet to find a job at a fast-food restaurant, Gilligan and her attorney told CNN, on Wednesday (Dec 6).

<h2>Russell quits job</h2>

Russell told the court she had been traumatised by Hayne’s actions and had quit her job at Chipotle since the incident.&nbsp;

In an interview with the Washington Post, on Tuesday (Dec 5), she said that she stepped in to protect a 17-year-old employee who was getting yelled at by Hayne.&nbsp;

Speaking about the incident, Russell said that the food Hayne threw was hot and burned her face. “I was so embarrassed and in shock,” she told WaPo.&nbsp;

<h2>‘Truly sorry’</h2>

Joseph O’Malley, Hayne’s attorney, told the CNN outlet how her client had no criminal record before the incident and was truly sorry about her actions that day.&nbsp;

“Let’s give her the opportunity to not let this one day define the rest of her life,” Malley told CNN.&nbsp;

The lawsuit was filed by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), a US agency responsible for enforcing and administering federal laws that prohibit discrimination in employment. It also checks for any sort of harassment in the workplace.&nbsp;

The lawsuit alleged that in 2021, an assistant manager at a Chipotle branch in Lenexa, Kansas, repeatedly harassed the employee by demanding that she reveal her hair, despite her repeated refusals. The situation escalated over several weeks until the manager physically grabbed and partially removed her hijab.

<h2>Chipotle's response&nbsp;</h2>

Laurie Schalow, Chipotle's chief corporate affairs officer, responded to the lawsuit by stating that the company encourages employees to report concerns, including through an anonymous hotline. “We have a zero-tolerance policy for discrimination of any kind and we have terminated the employee in question,” she reportedly said in an email.

The harassment began in July 2021 when the manager repeatedly asked the 19-year-old employee to remove her hijab, expressing a desire to see her hair.

According to the complaint, he made this demand at least 10 times over a month, with the employee consistently refusing on the grounds of her religious beliefs. Although the employee reported her discomfort to another supervisor, no further action was taken against the manager, as per the complaint.&nbsp;

<h2>Employee's resignation</h2>

The most distressing incident occurred in August 2021 when the manager allegedly reached out and partially pulled off the employee's hijab. Following this ugly experience, the employee gave her two weeks' notice.

“It’s pure chaos every time a rat appears,” an employee named Melvin Paulino was quoted by New York Post as saying.

The rat infestation is so much that even though the restaurant is shut, employees have to come to clean-up so that the problem doesn't get worse.

The issue began in Summer this year when the staff found half-eaten Avocados. The rats took particular liking to the expensive fruit so much that the staff was forced to keep Avocados inside freezers just to save them from rats.

But then, more issues started. Bags of rice were found to have been chewed open, the rice eaten. And the mice also took to chewing electric wires that resulted in problems for computer systems in the store.

Efforts were made to contain the damage. But the problem became so big that the store could no longer handle orders as computer systems and wires were too badly damaged by the rats.

Hackers used malware to steal customer payment data from most of Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc&#39;s restaurants over a span of three weeks, the company said on Friday, adding to woes at the chain whose sales had just started recovering from a string of food safety lapses in 2015.

Chipotle said it did not know how many payment cards or customers were affected by the breach that struck most of its roughly 2,250 restaurants for varying amounts of time between March 24 and April 18, spokesman Chris Arnold said via email.

A handful of Canadian restaurants were also hit by the breach, which the company first disclosed on April 25.

Stolen data included account numbers and internal verification codes. The malware has since been removed.

The information could be used to drain debit card-linked bank accounts, make &quot;clone&quot; credit cards, or to buy items on certain less-secure online sites, said Paul Stephens, director of policy and advocacy at the nonprofit Privacy Rights Clearinghouse.

The breach could once again threaten sales at its restaurants, which only recently recovered after falling sharply in late 2015 after Chipotle was linked to outbreaks of E. coli, salmonella and norovirus that sickened hundreds of people.

An investigation into the breach found the malware searched for data from the magnetic stripe of payment cards.

Arnold said Chipotle could not alert customers directly as it did not collect their names and mailing addresses at the time of purchase.

The company posted notifications on the Chipotle and Pizzeria Locale websites and issued a news release to make customers aware of the incident.

Linn Freedman, an attorney at Robinson &amp; Cole LLP specialising in data breach response, said Chipotle was putting the burden on the consumer to discover possible fraudulent transactions by notifying them through the websites.

&quot;I don&#39;t think you will get to all of the customers who might have been affected,&quot; she said.

Security analysts said Chipotle would likely face a fine based on the size of the breach and the number of records compromised.

&quot;If your data was stolen through a data breach that means you were somewhere out of compliance&quot; with payment industry data security standards, Julie Conroy, research director at Aite Group, a research and advisory firm.

&quot;In this case, the card companies will fine Chipotle and also hold them liable for any fraud that results directly from their breach,&quot; said Avivah Litan, a vice president at Gartner Inc specialising in security and privacy.

Chipotle did not immediately comment on the prospect of a fine.

Retailer Target Corp in 2017 agreed to pay $18.5 million to settle claims stemming from a massive data breach in late 2013.

Hotels and restaurants have also been hit. They include Trump Hotels, InterContinental Hotels Group as well as Wendy&#39;s, Arby&#39;s and Landry&#39;s restaurants.

Shares in Chipotle Mexican Grill ended marginally lower at $480.15 on Friday following the announcement.

Security analysts said Chipotle would likely face a fine based on the size of the breach and the number of records compromised. "If your data was stolen through a data breach that means you were somewhere out of compliance" with payment industry data security standards, Julie Conroy, research director at Aite Group, a research and advisory firm. "In this case, the card companies will fine Chipotle and also hold them liable for any fraud that results directly from their breach," said Avivah Litan, a vice president at Gartner Inc specialising in security and privacy. Chipotle did not immediately comment on the prospect of a fine. Retailer Target Corp in 2017 agreed to pay $18.5 million to settle claims stemming from a massive data breach in late 2013. Hotels and restaurants have also been hit. They include Trump Hotels, InterContinental Hotels Group as well as Wendy's, Arby's and Landry's restaurants. Teller said that a Wing prototype is ready for testing and that the team will run hundreds of flights in Virginia over the course of several days to deliver lunches prepared in an on-site food truck by Mexican food chain Chipotle. 
 
&quot;We want to learn how people feel when they&rsquo;re receiving a package by air, and taking someone&rsquo;s time and/or money changes things more than a little,&quot; Teller said.
