A video of the incident went viral on social media platforms this week, but it doesn't reveal the exact date and time.&nbsp;

The hospital's parent group Aier China has even suspended the surgeon. The CEO of the hospital, where the incident took place in 2019, was also dismissed.&nbsp;

A report by BBC mentioned that Aier China operates a chain of eye hospitals. The hospital group apparently confirmed that the incident took place during an operation in its hospital in Guigang, a southwestern Chinese city.&nbsp;

The report said that the patient was an 82-year-old woman who "had intolerance during the surgery due to local anaesthesia". She reported that she moved her head and eyes several times.&nbsp;

The surgeon "treated the patient roughly in an emergency situation" because the patient could only speak a local dialect.&nbsp;

The report mentioned, and the video also showed, that she did not respond to the doctor's warnings in Mandarin. The local authorities have said that she had injuries on her forehead.&nbsp;

Her son spoke to local media outlets and said that the hospital's management apologised and paid $70 as compensation after the surgery.&nbsp;

He also claimed, as reported in local media, that his mother is now blind in her left eye. However, it can't be established that she lost her vision due to the incident.&nbsp;

A Chinese military doctor who exposed the full extent of the SARS epidemic when it ripped through Beijing in 2003 has died at the age of 91, according to his friends and local media reports.

Jiang Yanyong accused the government of deliberately underreporting the spread of the respiratory disease in an open letter sent to state media in 2003. The disease killed nearly 800 people worldwide.

News of his death was not reported in Chinese state media, as is the norm with politically sensitive public figures.

Hu Jia, a human rights activist who said he was a longtime friend of Jiang's, told Reuters he died in a Beijing military hospital.

Two other family friends of Jiang, Bao Pu and Bao Jian, posted on Twitter about his passing earlier this week. Neither immediately replied to a request for comment from Reuters.

"Dr. Jiang Yanyong, who exposed the concealment of the SARS epidemic and was known for daring to tell the truth, passed away," Bao Pu wrote on Twitter.

Some media including the South China Morning Post said he died on Saturday of pneumonia, citing sources. Reuters could not immediately confirm this.

Jiang's death came during the annual sessions of China's parliament, a politically sensitive time when security measures are ramped up in the capital.

Born into a wealthy banking family and a longtime member of China's ruling Communist Party, Jiang served as a chief surgeon at a major military hospital in Beijing.

After his letter accusing authorities of covering up SARS in 2003, the Chinese government subsequently dismissed several officials including the health minister, and said it would be more transparent about responding to the crisis.

Jiang - who in a 2004 open letter also criticised the Communist Party leadership over the 1989 bloody crackdown of pro-democracy demonstrations, a taboo subject in China - said in 2009 that he had subsequently spent months under house arrest and was banned from travelling overseas.

SARS infected 8,908 people worldwide after emerging in the southern Chinese province of Guangdong, eventually killing 774, according to World Health Organisation data.

Beijing has reportedly passed a law to protect “non-malicious” medical whistleblowers, months after a Chinese doctor Li Wenliang was reprimanded for sounding the alarm about the nature of the coronavirus outbreak.

A Chinese doctor who first broke out the news of coronavirus spread in CHina has gone missing. Doctor Ai Fen is director of the emergency department of Central Hospital of Wuhan where the first case of coronavirus had emerged. &nbsp;She is the first medical personnel to disclose the 2019–20 coronavirus epidemic to the outside world.

Her whereabouts are unknown since she gave an interview to a state-run magazine in which she spoke in details about how Chinese authorities tried to hold the information regarding the deadly coronavirus which has now spread to over 180 countries.

The interview became proof of China's cover-up as she told the world how China knew about the coronavirus, way back in December and did nothing to stop it.

In the interview, she said she wasn't the whistleblower. She was the one who gave the whistle.

WION has been investigating Fen's claims. On Friday, WION accessed a copy of Ai Fen's interview in an English translation published on a Chinese site.

This interview is a smoking gun!

According to the interview, Dr Ai Fen was in her hospital, when the first coronavirus patients walked in. It was a disease, that no other doctor had seen before.

The patients were showing "flu-like symptoms. But, usual treatment methods were not working," she says in the interview.

Dr ai fen was treating some of the patients herself during she decided to carry out some tests. The result showed that it was a "SARS coronavirus".

The interview states, Dr Fen saying that she read the report several times to confirm and her conclusion did not change.

She broke out into "a cold sweat," she says adding that she "knew an unprecedented challenge was staring at her."

Dr Fen circled the diagnosis and took a photograph of the report and shared with a friend.

Soon the report was circulated across Wuhan's medical circles and other doctors began talking about this new mysterious disease.

Dr li Wenliang was one of them. He too received this report and is now known as the first whistleblower. Dr Fen gave him the whistle, as she puts it.

Dr Wenliang shared the report further and soon it emerged on the radar of the Chinese censors.

Subsequently, Chinese authorities began the coverup of the report. Dr li was pulled up by Chinese officials for sharing the report and accused of spreading false information.

Later, the Chinese police tracked down Dr Fen as the source. The authorities gave her a warning and asked her to stay quiet.&nbsp;

Hospital's disciplinary inspection committee also called Dr Fen and reprimanded her. They accused her of spreading misinformation.&nbsp;

In the interview, Dr Fen also says that she knew about the human-to-human transmission of the coronavirus; but "no one listened to her."

Instead of acting on her report, the Wuhan Central Hospital joined the government's cover-up and forbade the staff from passing messages pr images about the virus.

A few months later, Dr Fen got a chance to speak again. She spoke to Chinese magazine call "People". This time she did not hold back anything and told the magazine everything she knew.

&nbsp;And now, nobody knows where Dr Fen is.

Four days after the warning, Chinese officials visited Li and asked him to sign a letter that accused him of "making false comments" and "severely" disturbing the "social order".&nbsp;

"We solemnly warn you: If you keep being stubborn, with such impertinence, and continue this illegal activity, you will be brought to justice - is that understood?" Li replied: "Yes, I do."

Wuhan police also warned him of rumour-mongering.&nbsp;

The local authorities later apologised to him but all that came late.

On January 10, Li explained in a Weibo post how he started coughing and was admitted to hospital for fever after a few days. He along with his parents underwent tests of coronavirus that all came out negative.&nbsp;

The doctor posted again on January 30: "Today nucleic acid testing came back with a positive result, the dust has settled, finally diagnosed." Immediately, thousands commented with words of support.&nbsp;

Li's diagnosis has triggered angry reactions from Chinese against the state for the initial denial of the virus and delay in issuing warnings to the public.&nbsp;
