"The maximum value of rainfall recorded during this storm, which was 744.8 millimetres, occurred at the Wangjiayuan Reservoir in Changping," the Beijing Meteorological Service said.&nbsp;

Up until Tuesday (August 1), at least 20 people had died while 27&nbsp;remained missing as heavy rainfall made the job difficult for rescue authorities.

More than 52,000 have been evacuated from Beijing alone since the start of the rain, exacerbated by Doksuri, one of the strongest typhoons to hit the mainland in years.

In the Fangshan district, power to some 60,000 homes was knocked out.&nbsp;

The rivers in the country have swollen to record levels, forcing the authorities to use a flood storage reservoir in Beijing for the first time since it was first built, over 25 years ago.

A military unit comprising 26 soldiers and four helicopters was pressed into service on Tuesday to deliver hundreds of food packages and ponchos to people stranded in and around a train station in Beijing's hard-hit Mentougou district.&nbsp;

According to state media reports, some 125,000 people from high-risk areas in&nbsp;Zhuozhou, southwest of Beijing, have been moved to shelters as well.

Taking stock of the situation, President Xi Jinping issued an order to the local governments, urging them to go "all out" to rescue those trapped and minimise loss of life and property damage.&nbsp;

Notably, it was in 1998 that China witnessed the deadliest and most destructive floods when over 4,000 people died,&nbsp;most of them along the Yangtze River.

Around 300 died in 2021 when the central province of Henan was flooded. Record rainfall that year also inundated the provincial capital of Zhengzhou, turning streets into rushing rivers and flooding at least part of a subway line.

Chinese forecasters also warned about the approach of another storm named ‘Khanun’, which is expected to rapidly gain strength and strike China’s densely populated coast next week. While Doksuri got downgraded from a typhoon, the Chinese weather agency upgraded Khanun to typhoon from tropical storm status on Sunday.

Since early this week, China's southern and southwestern regions have been grappling with flood disasters caused by heavy rainfall.

Henan, which is China's largest wheat-growing province, is also expected to be hit by a torrent of rain in the coming days as per a weather prediction released on Thursday by the state forecasters.&nbsp;

The rain is expected to complicate further efforts to harvest grain that has already been damaged by a wetter-than-usual May.

A higher-than-normal rainfall hit Henan, often called China's Granary, in the last week of May. This came just days ahead of the harvest of wheat planted last winter, reports&nbsp;Reuters.

Reuters reported that the rains have caused some grain to sprout or decay.&nbsp;Winter wheat accounts for the majority of the nation's annual output.

It is not just Henan, but many other key wheat-growing Chinese provinces like&nbsp;Anhui, Hebei, Jiangsu, and southern Shaanxi, have also been drenched.

"The area affected is relatively large ... This basically covers the wheat-producing areas in central and southern China,"&nbsp;said Ma Wenfeng, a senior analyst with Beijing Orient Agribusiness Consultancy.

This year China was expecting a bumper crop of around 137 million tonnes,&nbsp;of which 30 million tonnes will likely&nbsp;be impacted by the rain. Of this, 10 to 20 million likely sprouted, which means it is no longer fit for human consumption, said Ma.

<h2>Emergency teams&nbsp;</h2>

China's agricultural ministry this week urged local authorities to dispatch emergency teams to drain the waterlogged fields and to save as much of the crop as possible, speed up access by harvesters and mobilise drying machinery.

Three killed, one missing as heavy rain batters China; 30 million tonnes of bumper wheat harvest impacted

At least 32 people were listed missing today after landslides triggered by a typhoon hit villages in China&#39;s eastern Zhejiang province, officials said.

Twenty-six people were listed missing while 15 others rescued after a landslide hit Sucun village of Suichang county yesterday following heavy downpour brought by typhoon Megi.

Megi, the 17th typhoon this year, brought downpours to the coastal areas of the Fujian province as it made landfall in Quanzhou city with winds packing?over 118 km per hour after causing havoc in&nbsp;Taiwan, officials said.

Several houses in the vicinity of 37 kilometres from the county were destroyed and the structures swept away, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

In a separate incident, six persons were reported missing in Baofeng village of Wencheng county last night after their homes were destroyed by a landslide, state-run Xinhua new agency reported.

More than 400 rescuers are on site at Sucun village. Zhejiang Vice Governor Sun Jingmiao was leading the rescue operation.

In the province, more than 18,000 people have already been relocated following the heavy rain brought by the typhoon.

Schools and power stations have been inundated in Zhejiang&#39;s Pingyang county which is affected by flood.

Power outages were reported in Shuitou township, home to more than 170,000. Schools across the county remain closed, the local county education bureau said.

Typhoon Megi has killed four people and injured 268 others in Taiwan as it travelled across the island Tuesday.
