<p>India's Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Tuesday announced that Artificial Intelligence-based ChatGPT's use by students will be prohibited in Class 10 and 12 board exams which are set to begin on Wednesday.</p>

<p>"Mobile, ChatGPT and other electronic items will not be allowed in examination hall," as per the instructions released by the CBSE ahead of the exams.</p>

<p>The board officials emphasised that any use of ChatGPT will be considered as using unfair means by students to clear board exams with flying numbers.</p>

<p>Launched in November 2022, ChatGPT (Chat Generative Pre-trained Transformer), is an Artificial Intelligence bot which can generate student essays, news articles, songs and speeches on the basis of input given to it.</p>

<p>Large language model (LLM), the new artificial intelligence (AI) system, has been designed to create human-like writing through the prediction of upcoming word sequences.</p>

While the students have been confused whether or not the examinations will take place, state Education Minister K Sengottaiyan on Saturday said&nbsp;the exams will take place once the lockdown is lifted.</p>

<p>The final decision is still pending. The decision will be taken in a high-level education committee and health officials. The Education Minister had visited Savakkatupalayam village near Gobichettipalayam, where he distributed welfare schemes to 450 handloom weavers.</p>

<p>He assured that all precautions of social distancing will be kept in mind while the exams are conducted, and the students will be seated in a line.</p>

<p>No decision has been made on re-opening of schools for a new academic year; the decision will be taken only after the lockdown is lifted and the state is recognized as green zone.</p>

<p>The Education Ministry is also appointing almost 2,000 mathematics teachers&nbsp;to provide online training to students. This will also be done for accountancy students.</p>

<p>The 10th standard exam will be conducted at 4,453 centres across India and 78 centres outside India. For class 12 students, the exam will be held at 4,138 centres in India and 71 centres abroad.</p>

<p>&quot;The board has made appropriate arrangements with state authorities and local police to ensure trouble-free examinations throughout the country,&quot; the CBSE official said.</p>

<p>Candidates who have diabetes are allowed to carry eatables inside the examination centres.&nbsp;</p>

<p>From this year, the CBSE is also allowing candidates with special needs to write their exams using laptops but their device will have to undergo an inspection by the computer teacher at the exam centre and no Internet access will be allowed.</p>

<p>A total of 4,510 and 2,846 differently-abled candidates have registered for class X and XII examinations.</p>
