The screening of a short film featuring Bhopal BJP Lok Sabha candidate and Malegaon blast accused Pragya Singh Thakur among others was Monday stopped midway here by a team of the Election Commission and local police.

The film, titled 'Bhagwa Aatankwad Bhramjaal' is centred around the Samjhauta Express, Malegaon, Ajmer Dargah and Mecca Masjid blasts and was being shown to journalists here by an organisation called Bharat Vichar Manch (BVM).

Following a complaint by the Congress, a team of EC officials and personnel from MP Nagar police station stopped the screening, said Inspector Manish Rai.

He said the EC had initially given permission to BVM for the show but recalled it after the Congress complained.

A BVM member, who identified himself as Captain Vikas Pandey, said the Mumbai-based producer-director of the film, Rajiv Pandey, wanted to the launch the short film from MP.

He said the BVM was a social organisation and is not connected to the RSS.

Rajiv Pandey said the film would be uploaded on sites like YouTube soon.

'They are free to show the short film after May 12 when elections for Bhopal Lok Sabha seat gets over.

We lodged a model code of conduct violation with the EC and it promptly took action,' MP Congress spokesperson Bhupendra Gupta said.

'The EC has put off the release of a biopic on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the same yardstick should apply to Pragya Thakur as well,' he added.

The short film contends that Thakur and other 'Hindu personalities' were held on 'cooked up' terror charges by the Congress-led UPA government.

Thakur is pitted against senior Congress leader and former chief minister Digvijaya Singh from Bhopal.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday said, Masood Azhar getting designated as a global terrorist by the United Nations, was a big win for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP.

"Compare five years of Modi government with fifty-five years of Congress rule and the work done under Narendra Modi will come out on top. Under the guidance of Modiji, BJP also succeeded in getting Masood Azhar designated as a global terrorist, it means just like Osama Bin Laden, his days too are numbered," Yogi said at an election rally here.

He also took a dig at Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra`s statement where she had accepted that the Congress was fielding some candidates only to cut votes.

"Everybody knows Congress is now reduced to a level where it fights not to win but to cut the votes of other parties, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has herself accepted that," he said.

He also targeted Samajwadi Party (SP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) `mahagathbandhan` in Uttar Pradesh and said, "The two years of work done under us is much more than what SP and BSP managed in twenty years," he said.

"We never saw or asked anyone`s caste or religion before giving them the benefits of our schemes. A poor person is a poor person. It was not like this under Congress and SP, BSP," Yogi said.

He also talked about the anti-Triple Talaq bill and said that the Congress and SP, BSP only play gimmicks in the name of woman empowerment.

"The SP-BSP, Congress all talk about women empowerment, but when we brought out the anti-Triple Talaq bill, they opposed it. How will the country prosper if the Muslim women are lagging behind and devoid of their rights? We will make and enact such strong laws which will deter anyone from even thinking of harming a woman," he said.

Uttar Pradesh will see polling in both the remaining phases on May 12 and 19 in the seven-phased Lok Sabha elections.

The Bharatiya Janata Party`s five-year rule was just a trailer, and the real picture is yet to emerge, said Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Saturday.

"The Congress is a confused party. They cannot change the future of India. It is only the BJP which can take India towards development. The five-year rule of the BJP was just a trailer. The real picture is yet to emerge," said Gadkari while speaking to ANI.

Criticising Indian Overseas Congress chief Sam Pitroda and Congress president Rahul Gandhi, Gadkari said, "Congress and its allies have one aim which is to defeat BJP. Congress party is at its worst at the Parliament, after Independence. They are in a bad state. They can`t even have a Leader of the Opposition."

"He (Rahul) can say whatever he wants. His credibility has suffered a blow. I do not think anyone believes that Congress will form the government. They want to help those who can defeat BJP. They have the sentiment that BJP, Modi ji should lose, even if they (Congress) are not elected. Congress party is at its worst at the Parliament, after Independence. They are in a bad state. They cannot even have the Leader of the Opposition," he said.

Continuing his tirade against Congress, Gadkari said, "Is NYAY (Nyuntam Aay Yojana) introduced to remove poverty? The Congress has been cheating India since Jawahar Lal Nehru and Indira Gandhi`s time in the name of `Garibi Hatao,".

"The process of cleaning Ganga initiated under Rajiv Gandhi`s rule in 1984 but no work was done. Today, Ganga became `aviral and nirmal` under the BJP`s rule. For the first time, a decisive government was formed, which has received respect from the entire world to act against terrorism. The whole world stood against Pakistan in declaring Masood Azhar a global terrorist, which is an achievement for us," he said.

No place for such violence in our country: PM Modi condemns BJP Anantnag vice-president's killing

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday tore into the Congress for promising in its manifesto the withdrawal of special powers given to armed forces involved in security operations in Jammu and Kashmir and doing away with the sedition law.

Addressing an election meeting in this remote parliamentary constituency situated on the Indo-Nepal border, Modi said he was appalled to see the Congress speaking the same language as Pakistan despite being the party which has been in power for long and urged the people to give a befitting reply to the opposition parties in the elections.

First, the Mahamilavatis (the grand alliance of opposition parties) began with abusing Modi. When they saw it was not paying electoral dividends, they trained their guns at the EVMs. After four phases of polls, they have become frustrated and started attacking the Election Commission. They are behaving like a batsman who blames the umpire after being clean bowled, like a student who comes up with silly excuses after flunking examinations, the prime minister said.

In an indirect attack on dynastic politics, Modi said parties like Congress and its ally in Bihar, the RJD were in tatters because these were led by people who owed their leadership to inheritance without a vision.

They do not see themselves as sevaks (servants) of the people but modern maharajas of democracy, Modi alleged.

He also dismissed the Congress promises of helping the poor through measures like the NYAY scheme and waiver of farmers' loans.

They (Congress) fooled the people in 2009 with a similar promise. Only a fraction of loans given to farmers was waived and many of the beneficiaries turned out to be not engaged in farming, as per the CAG report, he alleged.

Beware of their promise of transferring cash into your accounts. These are the people who ruled the country for so many decades and could not help the poor or even have their accounts opened in banks, Modi said indirectly referring to his governments 'Jan Dhan' scheme.

Their electoral promises are nothing but yet another ploy to siphon off money from the exchequer. But let them realize I will not allow a panja (hand an allusion to the Congress poll symbol) on public funds, he said evoking applause from the crowds.

Appalled to see Congress speaking the language of Pakistan: PM Modi

Union Minister V K Singh, a former army chief, on Saturday denied knowledge of a surgical strike during his tenure and accused the rival Congress of lying about it.

Taking to Twitter, he said, "Congress has a habit of lying. Will you please let me know which 'So-called Surgical Strike' are you attributing to my tenure as COAS (chief of army staff). Am sure you must have hired some Coupta to invent another story."

The statement from the Union Minister came days after Congress leader Rajiv Shukla told reporters at the AICC briefing that six surgical strikes were conducted during Manmohan Singh government.

Shukla had further stated that two surgical strikes were carried out when Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the Prime Minister- one on January 21, 2000, in Nadala Enclave across the Neelam River and second on September 18, 2003, in Baroh Sector in Poonch.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had on Friday mocked the Congress party for its claim of having conducted surgical strikes during the UPA regime and said after questioning the NDA government's strikes it was now claiming having done similar strikes by saying "me too, me too".

The Congress hit back saying by making these remarks the prime minister was insulting the armed forces.
