<p>Rajesh Edavakode, 34, died in a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, reports said. His left hand was chopped off in the attack, PTI cited police as saying. The incident reportedly took place around 9 pm last night.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Eight people have been detained in connection with&nbsp;Edavakode&#39;s death, ANI reported. They have been sent to police custody.</p>

<p>The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has called for a statewide strike in Kerala after the murder.</p>

<p>Home Minister Rajnath Singh called up chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan and expressed his concern over the prevailing law and order in the state.</p>

<p>He wrote on Twitter that &quot;political violence is unacceptable in a democracy&quot;.</p>

Kerala Police Chief said police forces have been instructed to strictly deal with any attempt to create violence and adequate police personnel have been deployed in all sensitive spots.</p>

<p>BJP state president Kummanam Rajashekaran accused the CPI(M) of orchestrating the attack, PTI reported.&nbsp;</p>

<p>&quot;The attack was by a gang of men involving CPI(M) (Communist Party of India (Marxist) activists. However, there was a long history of enmity between one of the accused and the victim. We are also probing any angle of political motive.&quot; Inspector General of Police Manoj Abraham was quoted as saying by NDTV.</p>

<p>The Kerala unit of the Congress, meanwhile, staged a protest demanding peace in the state today.</p>

<p>Many Congress leaders including party&#39;s state president MM Hassan and Leader of Opposition in the assembly, Ramesh Chennithala are on a hunger strike in Kozhikode, ANI reported.</p>

Rajnath Singh intervenes after RSS worker hacked to death in Kerala

<p>A 20-year old Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker Nirmal was hacked to death late on Sunday night in Mukkattukara of Thrissur district in Kerala.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The BJP has alleged that Communist Party of India (Marxist) workers are behind the&nbsp;murder of Nirmal, and have called for a strike in Thrissur district today, reported ANI.</p>

<p>Kerala has recently seen a spate of political violence. In January, a BJP worker was stabbed to death allegedly by CPI(M) activists at Andaloor in Dharmadam, the constituency of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.</p>

<p>The attack on Santosh (52) took place when he was alone in his house.</p>

<p>The same day, a country bomb was hurled at the RSS Karyalaya at nearby Thaliparamba. Though none was injured, the windowpanes of the office were damaged.</p>

<p>Though Santosh was rushed to the hospital, he died on the way, Kannur Superintendent of Police KP Philip said.</p>

<p>BJP observed a hartal in the district, where the 57th state School Arts festival was on. Shops and businesses downed shutters and vehicles went off the roads.</p>

<p>Pro-BJP organisations in Kerala have sought Home Minister Rajnath Singh&rsquo;s intervention to stop the spate of political killings in the state.</p>
